How Far Can You Drive on a Spare Tire?

Quote:
A spare tire is a helpful safety net, but most are not meant to replace your flat tire indefinitely.

Not all spare tires are created equal, so check your vehicle owner’s manual to get a better understanding of what kind of substitute you have. Temporary spare tires usually don’t have nearly the lifespan of a regular tire. In comparison to a normal car tire they can have just one layer of polyester in the sidewall and two belts of steel with a layer of polyester in the tread, meaning they can’t take nearly as much road abuse as a normal tire.
Think a spare tire can be as good as a regular tire? Read the whole story at AutoGuide.com to learn more about your safety when driving on a spare tire.

Nothing new here, it's pretty common knowledge that a spare is only good for short distances at low speeds. Sometimes it even says right on the spare to not go faster than 55 mph or farther than 50 miles.

Dealt with one on my Pontiac on the right rear for a month and 380 miles. A pothole messed up the rear control arm and damaged the wheel. You could deal for awhile, not that I'd recommend it. lol
