Craigslist Finds - Opinions, Advice, Hilarity

If you're like me, you may spend your free time browsing the "cars+trucks" section of Craigslist from time to time...And come across things you like, want, or just laugh at.

Figured I'd start a thread where anyone can post up what they find, if they wanna share. I see a lot of "is this a good buy?" threads, so maybe we could consolidate those here?

I was inspired by this post I saw this morning. I don't need it, but I want it. An unmolested Civic hatch...if anything, I want to get it just so some kid doesn't hack it to pieces and/or drive it into an early grave XD It's got some rust on the wheel wells which is normal for the area; my Accord has the same thing, and it's repairable.

I've always been a fan of Toyota Celicas. I've came to own 3 of three different generations. Now I'm only down to a rare 93 GTS that needs quite a bit to get her running. However, I saw this and it reminded me so much of my ST182.

I saw 2 Civic hatches for sale for under a grand here. Both are a bit beat up but not riced. Was going to buy one to learn stick shift on, but it got sold before I had a chance to look at it. The other one needed repairs I don't want to do.

And of course, I find my beater Corolla on Craigslist.

One thing I wish to see one day is an early 8th Gen EX-L V6 w/Navi, but with a standard transmission...

(Yeah, I wrote this on my phone. Wow.)

Oh gawd, don't get me started on that....

There are at least 2 (3) fans of that show in my area who have the "trueno 86" with the Initial D paint job, complete with the Fujiwara Tofu shop on the passenger side door. One of them converted his car to right hand drive. There is another person on the next block who has the Evo III with an Emperor sticker on the back.

I think if I was gonna own a car from that show it'd be Ryosuke's RX-7. Always wanted a white one, anyway. Lol

I see a lot of RX-8s in my area. Too bad there isn't a yellow one.

The issue with Rotary cars is that you need to know how to work on the engine yourself, since most shops will refuse to do works on them. You have to rebuild the engine like every 60k miles, I heard. Also you have to add in oil once in a while and you have to deal with the bad gas mileage. The oil filter in RX-8 is also a pain to change...

That said, they make beautiful exhaust sounds and love to rev. Very fun cars from what I have heard.

My mom had a white RX-7 before I was born.

I believe that's the car she and my dad crashed in, that led to her finding out she was pregnant with little ol' me. Dad got glass in his eye and they were on the way to the hospital when they hit black ice and went into a ditch. Since my mother is not a drifting master, it was bye-bye for the Mazda.

Nurse at the hospital asked her if she knew she was pregnant (NOPE)!

Mom told me that story when we drove down that same road this past year to go pick up my Cavalier. That road had the worst pitch I've ever seen - no wonder they slid right off.

I'm sure my dad knows a thing or two about rotary engines. Maybe he could teach me. Haha.

That would be a great find and from your other car threads I know you would keep it in good running order.

There are some "classics" on my street, NA Miata that's been sadly modded and a rusty looking FB RX-7 (I think its gone I haven't seen around lately) and the next street over there are 2 240Zs parked in front of a house and I see one of them being driven around the area.

Wow, it was very fortunate for you then.

I learned how a not well-prepared RWD doesn't mix with winter today. My friend with the 'stang with performance tires(apparently very terrible in snow) was absolutely struggling to get out of the parking lot today with the snow on the ground. It was absolutely hilarious to watch for me as my Accord plowed through the snow very well with FWD drivetrain and Nokian all-weather tires. I absolutely had no trouble, and the VSA worked beautifully to make sure there isn't any wheelspin. On the other hand, the 'stang was getting a lot of wheelspin and drifting quite a bit.

One thing I found really stupid on the 'stang is that, according to my friend, he can't(as in, the car won't allow him; the manual mode doesn't allow him to switch to 2nd when stopped) start from the 2nd gear, which really helps in this weather. My Accord can easily start in 2nd gear. The snow mode on that car also doesn't do much, either.

Rotary engines are not very complicated internally, from what I have seen from Engineering Explained, but you probably do have to remove the engine from the car to rebuild it, so it's still a bit of work.

Seems like Craigslist is much crazier in other areas since the Victoria one isn't filled with ridiculous cars.

My Camaro has a switch on the dash to let it start in second gear. What year is his Mustang? That seems odd. I think even in my Accord you can put the gear selector in any position at a stop (in "2" it'll have to get out of first and into second, but it won't go any higher); I've used first gear to crawl out of an icy parking spot that the car had been snowed into. Had winter tires on so it was just a case of putting the selector in "1", and rocking the front wheels back and forth until it grabbed the ice.
