Amp Mounting in Trunk

Upgrading my sound and I'd like to know if this location is suitable to drill through.
(Mounting amp to some MDF, need to secure MDF to the trunk.)

Also, would those bolts above the circle be decent grounding points or are they not part of the chassis?

P.S. Those one-time-use pillar clips are a PITA!

Thanks for the reply. Can confirm what you say.

I didn't want to drill into the frame itself so I just drilled holes into the trunk liner's thick plastic.
The amp sits on the red circle in my OP secured by nuts and machine screws.
It's fairly light and a class D so I don't expect an issue with heat or falling (same amp sat in my Lexus' glovebox with no issues).

I found that the metal around the rear deck is part of the chassis (basic continuity test with DMM) so I just used a vacant hole in the rear deck (seen in the top left of the image under the speaker, directly above the speaker harness). Sanded away the paint, got a good washer/bolt/nut combo to hold the ground in.

Sorry, been busy in classes so I haven't had much time with the Accord.

Here's where I mounted the amp. It's got a smallish footprint and even at decent power it doesn't get warm.

And this is the grounding point I used. It's up in the cutout for the suspension mount, the hole I used was already present. It was a fiasco to sand away the paint, though, since all I had was a dremel that didn't have good clearance.

  • VCMuzzler ($90 well spent)
  • JL 8W1 in the rear deck powered by a Kicker CX300.1
  • Alpine KTP-445U for the speakers (10/10 would recommend)

What are your thoughts on the aftermarket 8" mounted on the rear deck?

I was thinking about trying that exact sub out but wasn't sure if it would sound any good without an enclosure on the rear deck.

As a comparison, I have a Parts Express 6.5" subwoofer in a ported box powered with 70W as a measly desktop speaker that sounds MUCH BETTER.

The JL in the rear deck doesn't sound bad, per se, but it'll never be as boom-boom as I'd like.
It's got a great punch and it rattles my side/rearview mirrors a decent amount.

Definite improvement over the stock subwoofer (more power, so that's expected) without sacrificing trunk space.

If you do decide to put in the sub, please please please deaden your rear deck. That thing is flimsy!
And you will need to do a bit of metal cutting/grinding to get the magnet down the hole.
