Map lights not working. Neither one. Easy fix? hopefully

In another thread I mentioned that I purchased a 2004 EX-L sedan. Upon the drive home, I noticed that the map lights aren't working. Tomorrow I'm going to call the dealership and notify them (not a honda shop). Hopefully its under the short warranty that came with the car.

If not, where do I look? I'd like to think it would be a simple bulb replacement, but something tells me it could be another issue. I'm hoping its just a fuse. I played with the switch near the map lights, but they wouldn't work no matter what I tried.

thanks in advance.

Map lights?

I can't think of where those are at the moment.

There's the little LED up top center. There's the "big" two lights above center for general allumination.... Do you mean those?

If neither one is working, a blown fuse would be the first thing I'd look for. I don't have any schmatics, but I believe that the fuse in question is located in the left lower kick panel (driver's footwell).

Yep. The two big lights just in front of the sunglasses holder. The ones where you push the whole light to turn them on. One for each side.

Since all those things are run off the same fuse....I doubt it. I can't imagine both bulbs burning out at the same time.... but that would be easy enough to check & cheap to replace.

Everything else up there works fine. Though now I'm wondering if the switch controlling the map lights could have a problem.

As far as checking the bulbs, can I use a screwdriver to "pop" out the map light lenses? I don't want to break anything.

Yes, a small screwdriver will pop out the lenses. Just make sure to be gentle and patient with them. You can even put a piece of electrical tape on the end of the screwdriver to further protect the lenses.

Update. I haven't popped out the lenses yet, BUT... this morning, one of the maplights just CAME ON for the first time. I had to push the button a couple times to get it to turn off. . Still, the other one won't work regardless.

I just find it odd that they both didn't work, then suddenly one of them works. I'm now thinking maybe the previous owner had the homelink accessory, and may have disconnected it himself without hooking the map lights back up properly??

Yeah, could just be loose. What year is your car? Still under warranty? Probably not if you are asking.

May just be best to pull it apart and see whats shakin.

I have the same problem on my 2006 Honda Accord map light. The passenger side won't turn on when you open the door. I found out that the connection with the bulb was a bit loose, so I just put a piece of a tiny wooden stick to hold it in place. Once I finished with that, i tried it out, and now the light works perfectly.

I have a similar problem. On my 2008 Accord 2.4L EX-L (I have owned for 2 years without any issues) my driver side dome/map light went out but the bulb is fine when I tested it in the passenger side, I believe its the switch itself so I ordered a new switch ($29.99 eBay) which I will install the weekend. But here is the kicker, I found this after my battery died on the vehicle, its a Die Hard battery of 2 years so I recharged it and worked for a week then it died again. Had anyone had issues with a short in the dome/map light which ran your battery down. I have done some diagnostics and it looks like fuse 15 (10amps) is where the parasitic draw is but have yet to do additional diagnostics.

I have seen the actual switches in the map lights fail and cause behavior like this, theyre pretty easy to swap but generally you have to grab them off other accords and similar aged hondas in junk yards or get replacement lights from honda with the switches included
