2006 Accord Passenger Door Lock Stuck

Hi... New member here. I've done some searching, but haven't found this exact issue, so I'm curious if anyone has any ideas.

I have a 2006 Accord with a rather annoying problem. The front door lock on the passenger side is sticky/stuck.

With the door closed, the door will not unlock. I can pull the plunger about half way up, and it tries to unlock when I use the switch for the central locks or the key fob, but it will not unlock. The only way to unlock the door when it is closed is to pull up on the plunger with a pair of pliers.

If the door is open, it will lock and unlock all day long without any issues.

It seems like something is binding in the mechanism, and it must be related to the latch, since it is only a problem when the door is closed. I haven't taken the door panel apart yet, mainly because it was 20 degrees out all day. I didn't much feel like being in the driveway when it is that cold, nor did I want to end up with a handful of snapped plastic bits that shouldn't be messed with when they're so brittle from the weather.

Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated!

I went to my friendly local auto parts store and got a spray can of white lithium grease, which I used to lubricate the striker and the latch mechanism. Worked like a charm. Went ahead and lubed the hinges, strikers, and latches on all four doors and the trunk while I was at it. Be sure to clean off any excess dirt first.

Hope this helps.
