DIY: center console removal/shift boot removal.

first remove the shift knob, the stock knob has tabs facing north and south, or 3rd and 4th gear that needs to be pinched to take it off the boot before turning the knob off.

after that, open the ashtray and power outlet (make sure you take out all of your change first) and pull up, just pull it enough so the clips pop out.

now just run your fingers on the side and pop the side clips off

do the same for the other side.

now move your way upto the arm rest where you'll see the center console ends. you have to pop this one out to finish off the clips holding the console in.

lift up the console, but not too fast. make sure you unplug the 12v outlet first by pushing in the center button like so and pulling the plug.

now you can take the whole console out, and when you flip it upside down you will see this. 4 screws holding in the shift boot.

when you take out the 4 screws you will notice there is a ring ontop of the boot (take the ring off), and the stock boot is stapled to the white part ring.

after you remove the staples. you will have just the white ring. put the new boot over it, don't worry about re-stapling it. just stick the top ring over the boot/white ring and it will hold it securely in place.

now to reinstall the boot, you will need to screw it back onto the console, but the boot is blocking the holes, you need to poke big enough holes to have the screws be able to go through. i simply used a screw driver to poke through mine.

and just screw it back onto the console and make sure the big side of the ring is facing the radio and the thinner side is facing you. and put the console back in opposite order of which you took it out, and don't forget to replug the 12v outlet before doing so.

you're done now with the boot installation, my boot has a metal ring on top which made a clinking noise every time i shifted. so an easy fix is to use electrical tape (because black tape is hard to notice) and wrap it around the shifter where the metal ring was clinking.

and problem solved, enjoy your new boot/shift knob.

Thanks for the writeup. Two questions, how does the top ring on the boot stay up and can you estimate how much shorter your new knob is compared to stock.

Is there anything extra to do in the DIY for the automatic trasmission in the sedan's center console removal?

ring stays up by itself. but if you wanted to you could also use tape to make the shifter thick under the ring to hold it up or something close to that.
