2012 Accord LX Oil Change Interval

Hi guys,

I know this is in the manual, but just havent had the time to look .

Recently picked up a 2012 Accord LX Sedan (4 cyl) for my wife and wanted to know what the oil change interval on these cars were?

Is it every 5K, 7.5K or 10K miles? Also, what oil does it take? I'm guessing Synthetic 0w-20?

Also, is it easy to do the oil change yourself? If the filter is easy accessible, I might try to do it myself.

Thanks in advance !!

It's my wife's car so I rarely drive it. If you know the answer, you could have atleast posted. Push come to shove, I will read the manual. Thanks for not helping

I do 5-6k mile intervals never more than 7k. I use mobil1 synthetic. the oil "timer" in the car is 12k miles to 0% i think but I would never go nearly that long but if you're using synthetic u could go a few k longer than me and be fine.

changing the oil in this car is literally the easiest of any car I've ever owned (coupe). easy access to the oil filter and plug straight shot to the floor.

You think wrong. The MM is based on a number of factors. Number of starts. Number of cold starts. Idle time. Mileage. I go by the MM and I've never seen it go more than 8,000km (5000mi). Not sure where you're getting the 12k miles figure from.

OP - just go by the MM.

My last MM percentage showed me at 30% with 7.2K on the oil. I just changed it at that rate. I average about 1K miles per 10%.

Which confirms that the system is not based on a set mileage. I do a lot of stop-and-go city driving in either really cold or really hot weather which probably explains why my MM triggers at a lower mileage than it does for other drivers.

Honda's MMI system is pretty intelligent.

It takes all these variables into account
-coolant temp
-revs
-fuel used
-metered air entering engine
and more things, and calculates the life of the oil based of pre-programmed values based on whatever oil is recommended from the factory (my '12 is synth blend 0w20, older models maybe dino 5w30).

Keep that in mind when switching out to a full synthetic, it can be stretch out further as long as the oil level in maintained.

Exactly the same here. I've had 2 oil changes so far and both were at 15% at around 8000 KM. I don't abuse the car but I don't baby it either.

The maintenance minder is there for a reason. Following it would be the safest route in my opinion.

I contemplated doing my own oil changes but decided against it for 2 reasons.

The cost savings wasn't worth my time and effort ($40 twice a year, not a big deal if you ask me to have the dealer do it and guarantee the work)

and,

IF something were to go wrong I could see the dealer blaming my shoddy oil change work and not honor the warranty.

Which is why I will let the dealer do the oil changes while in warranty. However, after factory warranty, I will do all fluid changes.
