2002 Accord lx sedan humming noise???

Yo, this is my first time posting a thread here so imma try not to ramble.. here it goes.. My wife has a 2002 Honda Accord LX Sedan it has 115,000 miles she bought it in "02" from a Honda dealer that they used it as a loaner so it came with 30,000 miles already on it. Our problem is that when we drive it we hear a humming/whinning sound after 20mph. Apon checking online ive changed all that people have suggested, changed wheel bearings, front suspension, new breaks, ive changed all fluids... And after all that i still hear that damn noise could some one please point me into the right direction of what it is. Thank you.

How about the tires, have they been replaced since the humming started?
If it doesnt make the noise by reving the engine when stopped, its probably not coming from the engine or accessories.
A little more detail would be helpful. Is the noise coming from front, rear, left or right side? Does it change with engine rpm or load, accelerating or coasting?

Yes I have put new tires on since it's started making the noise and if I'm stopped and rev it you cannot here it. We believe it's coming from the front end. It does not change With the rims rpms or load. I've put it in nuTural when driving on frwy and it stays constant. As it reaches 20mph it starts to make the noise then as I accelerate it gets louder.

Sounds like a wheel bearing. The front drivers side on my 99 I4 went out around 80k.

Ahhh, missed that part. Sometimes a rear one can be bad eventhough it sounds like it's coming from the front. I'd at least have the rears checked and report back.

This was the case with my friends 05 Corolla. Sounded like it was coming from the front pass. side when it was the back drivers side that was bad.

So I had my rear bearings checked out and there fine.. I was told it could be either the front axle or a transmission bearing

Those are about the only things left to check. Your mechanic should be able to jack up the front wheels (one at a time) and spin the tires with the engine to see which side is noisy. Axles usually dont fail unles the rubber boot goes bad, but a new axle will be a lot less costly than a trans rebuild.
Just for the record, is this a 4 cyl or V6 auto or 5 speed?

I know, I know...

After my transmission was replaced, by the dealership, I had two sources of whining (besides me, that would be three).
The new trany whined in 1st and 2nd gears. It got better over time ~50K miles.
They add a external ATF filter in-line with the cooler lines, when the trany gets replace under warranty. The filter fills with crud in, 20-30K miles, and as it does, it goes into by-pass, this makes noise. There is a Acura TSB here somewhere.
Bottom line replace the filter. The filter dose not exist parts list, exploded view, for the car. Search here for the Honda part number, or replace it with the a Magnefine filter. Make sure its installed in the correct direction. Good luck..
