Help me fix my 96 ex
So I picked up a 1996 Accord Ex with the 2.2L for $1000 with a clean title. Pretty good deal, right? Well the car was having it's clutch replaced at the time, so I couldn't start it obviously. I come to find out that there is a multitude of issues with this car, and it has become a project(more to come). It was a drivable project, and I needed the car so I used it as needed. Well down the road, the car was stolen, as most from this generation are, and the theif knew what he was doing because I got the car back in one piece with the steering column and everything in tact. I tried to get the car to my house to get it dried out (The thieft left the window down during a rain storm), and the car would continuously backfire when shifting, then it would die, and then it wouldn't restart at all. We tried put some of that product "Heat" in the gas tank to evaporate any water thinking that might have been the problem. No luck. Anyway my question to you loyal honda owner is "What is the possible problem?". This is my first time poster to a forum, so let me know if you have any questions about other symptoms that I might not be thinking of now. Thank you for all your help.
1.) Speedometer & Odometer don't work. Vehicle Speed Sensor?
2.) Windshield Wipers only work with manual set speeds, meaning the twisting part
3.) Locks don't lock simultaneously.
4.) Before the issue happened with the theft, the car would bog and surge when in 2nd & 3rd gear.
P.S. I'm posting this to ask for help, considering I am new to project cars. I am an amateur to fixing cars, but more intermediate when it comes to automotive knowledge.
