You would actually need to compare different years with the same mileage (not mileage per model year). If you buy a new car in August and sell it after 4 years the total mileage when you sell it after 4 calendar years will be the same regardless of the model year of the car.
So compare a 2008 with 60,000 miles vs a 2009 with the same 60,000 miles.
To get a more accurate valuation you have to compare cars of different years with mileage appropriate to that year. I figured 12,000 mikes per year so the 5 year old car would have 60,000 miles and the car one year newer and one year older would each have 12,000 miles difference. If you compare a 2008 and a 2007 with the same milage you can't differentiate the age of the car without the variable of milage.
