This morning drove to a coffee shop a quarter mile away. When my foot pressed on acceleration, I can hear some hissing/humming sound. It went away when foot was off the pedal. Since the car was cold, and it didn't get warm before I went back home. Not sure if this is only cold start and lot speed. Need more test. Just want to share with everyone. 15 EXL

Tried a 10 mile ride this afternoon. Yes, the hissing sound is still there. When you drive at 40MPH, you hardly can hear it since road noise covered it. But in the parking lot, start from red light, you can hear the hissing sound when you press gas pedal. It went away while foot is off the pedal. Really don't know what is happening.

Anyone here experienced similar whistling/hissing sound while accelerating? Thanks.

Is this is a CVT or V6? Might get some help from people with specific model information

Does it happen with your stereo off?

Only 2 times I hear hissing is when I'm hearing noise through the speakers, or when my air filter wasn't installed so the airbox wasn't sealed so it was whistling like a supercharger.

Suggest you set a time to take the car in and offer to ride with the service advisor so you can point out the sound. It's what they are going to do anyway even if you've pinpoint what you think might be wrong with an individual component. Is it only when driving or what about when you rev the engine from a standstill ? I'm guessing vacuum leak but who knows.

those are two different vehicles. you don't know what Honda does or doesn't know what to do - we do.

you should bring it in and don't portray dealers as a stealership or negative place to be. most places are hard working shops that will attempt to duplicate your problem, compare it to other new cars and contact Honda for advice if needed.

as far as the noise it can be from the high pressure pump and if so it's considered normal. it was designed that way. if you don't like it contact Honda directly. if enough people complain they might get their designers to come up with a quieter system.

if it's not from the high pressure pump then it might be abnormal. either way bring it in. expect them to have the car all day or even overnight to attempt to duplicate it and be patient. there isn't a magic tool to figure out your potential problem easily.

Thanks for the info. I just like to see from my peer Accord users if this is normal. Lots of people had the experience that being told "normal" "not reproducible" after spending days at the dealership.

Certainly if it is abnormal, I will bring it in. But I doubt I will be told it is normal DI noise.

it's not direct injection noise - it's possibly high pressure fuel pump noise which is considered normal at this time.

Stop by a Honda dealer this afternoon. The technician took a 5 min drive on the back road, and told me it was normal. I told him this reminded me of my tinnitus medical history years ago. Had a few accords before, never met this type of problems. It is just annoying.

this is a new engine in the 9th gen accord - first application of direct injection that utilized a high pressure pump. the fuel is pressurized upwards to 2500 psi at times - the fact that it is in a passenger car and is quiet is quite the achievement. I like the noises my engine makes lol

Weird Question

I know this is a strange question but for those of you that hear the humming noise- How old are you?

I have a 2014 Accord Hybrid and my kids always say they can hear a whining sound when I accelerate (and it stops when I stop accelerating). My wife and I can never hear it.

We asked several passengers over the course of a few weeks. Seems those over 25 can't hear it but those under 25 can.

I'm 62 and can clearly hear the CVT (?) whine with the windows down, and barely hear it once in a while with the windows up. It vaguely resembles a turbo whine but at a lower frequency. It spools up and down with throttle, the pitch getting higher as the gearing goes lower. Personally I find it a cool mechanical sound.

Mine is more like high pitch whistling sound. It is usually worse when the car is cold and during acceleration. Once your foot is off the pedal, all sounds gone.

I spent good amount of time listening to engine sound this morning, and noticed the humming sound may come from the area circled by red square. Anyone knows what this area is? I used a stock accord under the hood pic from google.

I almost forgot to mention the noise is definitely from front passage side.

Why not record the sound with your phone and post it up.

You had tinnitus and you were able to get it taken care of? Please expand, (or PM me).
