2014 Sport CVT Fuel Mileage Decline

My Accord Sport was averaging around 26-27 mpg around town and over the last 3 tanks it has averaged around 23-24 mpg. My driving route and habits are pretty consistent so I'm wondering what might be going on. Any thoughts?

You did not state where do you live, but colder weather = longer time to get to optimal operating temperature, which = more wasted fuel.

my overall went from 29.9 down to 26.6- and dropping- here in Chicago. The cold really puts the hurt on. Plus new triple tread tires...

Please update your UserCP to include your location under your username, like so many of us have done.

This may be off-topic, but if you are a dictator in a developing world country, you may want to change your driving route and habits frequently lest the peasants or a rouge colonel figure it out.

I would also like to assume that he has recently moved to the mountains and the elevated sea level has decrease his fuel economy.

Have you been using your heater more often? If so, for your next 3 tanks don't use your heater and see if the MPG changes.

I've had the same experience since December. I was averaging around 29, 30 MPG easily in mixed before the cold weather came, now I'm getting only about 27 MPG or so.

Cold weather increase friction on drive train components since fluid takes longer to heat up, increases air resistance, decreased tire pressure, battery less efficient requiring more input from alternator, and winter fuel blend all contribute to decreased mpg. Some other theories are that cold air is more dense and thus more air and fuel is allowed to enter the combustion chamber decreasing fuel economy while slightly increasing power compared to warm hot air.
