35% 0r 20% window tint? help please

I live in Chicago/Norridge. I drive a lot around Des Plaines, Franklin Park, Schiller Park, Rosemont, Norridge, Chicago areas.

I recently just leased a 2017 Accord Sport SE. Red color. Im geting my windows tinted tomorrow and I am on the fence whether to get 35 or 20s. My previous car had 35 front, and 20s all around the back. It looked good to me, and it was a light tan interior.

I prefer the darker look, but I am not looking to get pulled over all the time and pay tickets. Im afraid 35 all around will look too light, and 20s may look too dark.

Please note I do not drive much at night, and Im not a teenager so I sort of like the slight tint, but also like the privacy.

The car is red with all black interior. Please help me decide! I dont want to regret going to light or too dark, I wish there was something in the middle!

Well considering Illinois law is 35% limit I would go with 35%. You do have to pass inspection each year, remember? One ticket or having to take off for inspection would easily outweigh the costs of the actual tint.

Inspection? I only have to get my emissions done every 2 years. I have been considering 20% rear windshield, and 35% all around (not the windshield). I have many friends who all have 20% and never been pulled over, but I dont have such luck, especially with a red car that tends to attract the cops attention.

Sorry some states have yearly safety inspections also that test brakes, mirrors, lights, tires, and tint.

Ah, I see. Yea not here in IL. Was hoping some people local have pics and/or suggestions with their experiences with the tint. I dont want to pay to get 35% and then feel it is not worth it. Also dont want to get tickets non stop for being too dark. Im really leaning towards 20 in the rear and 35 on sides.

Since you don't want the chance of getting a ticket, your only option is to go with the lighter tint. You should also be aware the the glass does cut some light as is so with 35% tint you will be at less than 35%.

I got 35% tint and it pretty dark but not limo dark. From different angles it looks really dark but straight on still light enough. Definitely offers some privacy. Remember there is like 4-5% on the factory windows to begin with so 20% is more like 15% VTL. I can try to get picture later but I have a WOP so the black tint may look darker given the drastic change in contrast with WOP.

Yes pics would be great. Like i said my previous car had 35 fronts and 20 all around the rear. And it was a tan interior. So im thinking maybe 20 on rear windshield to make it a little darker, and 35 all around.. watching tons of videos but doesnt do justice. my old car was easily see thru during the daytime, and at night was pretty dark... just afraid of how the 2 shades will stand out. Basically im either at 20 all around, 35 all around (30 if they have it would be perfect just a tad darker and cops wouldnt know the difference, or 20 rear and 35 around

I got 35% all around except wind shield. I like it and so do the cops(knock on wood). Easier to make left turns at night. If you go with 20% and get pulled over, always tell the cop that your wife wanted darker tint up front. They can relate and might just give you a verbal warning. I believe most cops have dark tint all around on their personal cars.

I have an 8th gen but I went to Florida and asked for 20% on the front 2 windows and 35% twice on the rear 3 windows. In Virginia it registers on the state troopers window meters as 12% in the front and 8% in the rear. Lemme see if I can find a pic. I have dark interior too btw

Not really the best pics but all I could really find quick

20 isn't too dark. Cops can still see your shade. Depends how picky they are there. I had my Cadillac at 20% and no issues. Currently, my Hyundai is at 20% and I'm looking to tint my Accord at 20% as well. No issues here.

With black interior, it will seem darker with the same tint percentage than your tan interior car.

I live in Michigan, where tint is not allowed on the drivers or passenger door past 4" from the top. That's right, a dumb ugly strip covering the top 4" of the window is what is legal, regardless of %.

I went with 35% on my Accord all of the way around. I find that 20% in the back is simply too dark for me to get around well at night. During the day it's fine, but not so much at night.

Here is mine, with 35% all around, with tan interior

I'm a long time fan of 20%. Works best for me for sun loading and I live/have vehicles registered where it's no worries.

20% Rear 35% front is pretty safe. With the excellent backup camera I would even get 5% in the back next time for those trucks on your butt at night.
