Front Shock Tower Bar ?

Every model other than the LX comes with a Front Shock Tower Bar. What is it? What does it improve? Does it make any noticeable difference?

Also can it be installed easily on the LX and how much does it cost?

It reduces flex during hard cornering....if I remember correctly....

You should be able to bolt one up from any other model

Is there a noticeable difference or improvement in purely normal city/highway driving? I won't racing or any hard cornering.

Is it worth it to get one?

I bought my Volvo S60r with 48000 miles on it and it had a strut brace already. By stiffening that up more, it made the chassis that much more rigid. I would think going from none to installing one, you would find an improvement. But with that said, my car is as tight as a vault, as would be expected of a new car.

When I installed one of these in my '91 Civic, way back before regular cars came with them, it was my understanding it was to keep the front suspension geometry, especially the camber, from changing during very hard cornering. Back then my car was lowered with Eibach springs and Tokico shocks. I also had pretty thick sway bars front and back. I did many club track events with the car. I always thought race tracks were the only place you'd really need a strut tower brace.

^^^ This. I was thinking the same thing! The balloon-ish tires of the LX have so much sidewall, they'd flex and wallow during cornering way before any part of the chassis would even flinch.No doubt, cost is probably the main reason for a strut tower brace isn't included on the LX.

I would think low profile tires are needed in order to push the car hard enough in the corners where a strut tower brace would actually serve it's purpose.

They did it for cost mostly. The new 9th generation suspension is a step back with mc struts instead of double wishbone.

Honda had to cut corners to keep price in check and expand cabin room. Mc struts allow you to do that at the cost of some handling. But then again who really needs handling in a fwd family car?

By eliminating the bar they can claim/check off that is one extra feature you get in the next upgrade package.

Premium cars and packages always have better margins
