Guide to get text messages to work with iPhone

Hey guys, I wanted to post this to help out all those who have iPhones with IOS 6 with the messaging feature giving them issues.

When I got the accord sport (3 days ago) and the text messaging feature didn't work. I did get it working though. Here's what I did...

I turned off Siri, I deleted the phone off the car and the honda link off the phone. I then reconnected the phone to my car and when into the phone settings and turned on "show notifications" under the honda link Bluetooth menu. I then turned off the message feature then turned it back on on the car display. Then sent myself a message from my phone to my phone(I know it sounds weird)!! The message popped up on my screen in the car and started to work with all messages.

If that doesn't work try deleting all the text messages you have on your phone and some people reported that working too.

At first I was receiving the name of who sent me the message but now the name stopped appearing. I will keep fiddling with it and keep you guys posted.

I thought the entire text feature didn't work with the iPhone, only Android? I'll have to try this.

You can't send messages back with iPhone, it's an Apple software thing. The easiest way to get Text to work is go into the Phone settings on the Accord, go text Messages and then select the Device which will say "IOS" and that's it.

i got it to work but everytime i receive a text message, the car always ask me if i want to receive notifications. This happens every time, it gets redundant. The same thing with pandora. It keeps asking me on my phone to allow the application. Any one else annoyed? or has a fix?

Can't respond via text through iPhone. Also you have to click YES every time otherwise it will not work.

The speech in mine is muddled sometimes, like with static. I don't want the dealer ripping my car apart to check it, I'll just deal with it lol

I have an iphone 4s with ios 6 (soon to be ios 7). The text messaging is working properly except for the fact that the name and phone number does not always appear. Here is the problem: when I receive a text message from a number that is not stored in my address book, the phone number will show up on the honda display. When the number is stored in my address book, it will not display a name or phone number. Very strange. Honda dealer did not know how to fix this either. If anybody has had this problem please let me know!

Hello, I know this post is several years old, but I finally got my iPhone 6 to receive text messages on my 2015 Accord Coupe after following the instructions above, but when they come in it says the messages are emails (not a big deal, but would be nice if it said text) and I too do not get the number of name of the person sending the text.

Do you know if anyone has figured out how to make this work? Is this something I need to go to the Dealer for?

Thanks and I'm hoping someone is still following this thread.

I just had a thought:

For Accords that do not have a Siri Eyes Free feature - do this:

When connected to the car using Bluetooth, if you invoke Siri on the phone, do you hear a chime over car speakers (in other words, does Siri interrupt whatever audio you are listening at the time?) Can you issue commands though car microphone and Siri can hear them?

If yes - I'd get the Satechi Bluetooth Button Series (Home Button) or one of other Bluetooth buttons that have a "Siri" function. What this should then allow you to do is invoke Siri and tell her to "read me my last message" or "send a message to (name)".

I thought I had tried to invoke Siri and it appeared to be calling myself? I'm sure I was doing something wrong. I'm not a big user of Siri but will try this to see what happens.

The main thing is - do you get the Siri ding or not?

On the phone: you need to have Siri turned on (obvious) and you need to allow it when locked. You do NOT need to turn on "Hey Siri" (I don't).

Then - when connected to the car over Bluetooth, long press the home button on your iPhone. Do you get a ding over car audio? If yes, say something like "read me my last message". You should not speak into the phone so you will see if the phone gets your voice through car microphone. Maybe when you invoke Siri for this test, put the phone into the glove box or your pocket or on the passenger seat covered with a sweater or something. It should work with no phone in sight.

If all this checks out, then a Bluetooth button with Siri function is all you need.
