Yup. Another "newb" here. Hi, my name's Derek (or you can refer to me as jubatis, whichever.) I finally decided to get rid of my piece of :censored: '95 Saturn SL1, complete with leaks (during a heavy rainstorm I had to literally pump out the trunk and under the seats), fogging up windows (impossible to drive to work in the morning safely), erratic idling (anywhere from 700 to 2000 rpms at idle), constant MAP sensor failure (replaced about every 6 months), along with a whole bunch of other little issues.

I had been going back and forth between the Accord and the Altima. (I had decided against Hyundai's early, and eventually ruled out the Mazda6.) In the end I decided the Altima was too gadgety (I just know in a year most of those will be broken) and I loved the looks (believe it or not) and sophistication of the Accord. Of course, the track record of the Accord speaks for itself at Consumer Reports and about anywhere else.

Got a decent deal on a 2007 Accord EX Sedan, but I'm sure others could have done better. I don't have a picture of my Accord yet, but it is the Graphite Pearl color with tinted windows. Good deal or not, 500 miles later (I just got it last Saturday) I don't regret it. For the record, my first fill-up (13.4 gallons) came in around 27.5mpg, but I'm not sure if the trip was set correctly so that could be off. At best I got about 31.15mpg based upon the total odometer.

I plan to install the MP3 player, Auto Day/Night Mirror, Outside temp sensor, all weather mats, and splash guards myself. (I've got a lot of experience installing aftermarket radios and other systems on cars, so the factory stuff should be a piece of cake. The instructions don't look difficult to me. Just have to be careful... )

Anyway, been watching this board for a while and thought I'd say "Hi!". And, to paraphrase and old Honda commercial: You meet the nicest people in Accords.

And of course:
:worthless:

Welcome to the forum. I've found many GM products had horrible HVAC systems in the mid 90's.

You have a great car that will last you way longer than 10 years with good care. Post them pics when you get a chance and ask us anything. We are all here to help you out!

Once again, Welcome

Among many other issues, I might add. The Saturn was one of GM's better attempts, imo, at a japanese knockoff. To be fair, I think mine was wrecked before I got it, but the price was so good I couldn't pass it up. Still, it missed by miles.

Personally, I'm aiming for about 250K, but with as much driving as I do, that may only be 10 years!

Thanks for the welcome.

I appreciate that. (You probably get tired of welcoming all the newbies :), or maybe not.) Anyway, if I can't find it, I'll let you know.

Welcome and enjoy it here. Don't be surprised when your gas mileage starts going up. I believe the best gas mileage doesn't come until 15k+ miles.

Oh, and I believe the original commercial was for their motorcycles, and went, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda"

Well, my stupid digital camera broke so I have not been able to get any good pics.

Here are the "best" shots I got from my camera phone:

Of course, these were taken about 500 miles ago. I have since added the outside temp gauge, auto-dimming rearview, splash guards, & the winter mats (impressive, imo). I am waiting on a few minor pieces to install the mp3 player along with the Motorola IHF1000 car kit. (Of all these things, only the car kit is aftermarket, btw.)

(In the first pic, you can just see the front bumper of my brother's '00 Mazda Protege.)

Superlurker - that is funny,

Thank you -- funny, but true. :)

Actually, third tank of gas is now at almost 29mpg!!

Well, I was trying to be funny by paraphrasing the old commercial. In hind sight, it's not that funny.

Anyway, thanks for the great board, even though there seems to always be oil & "green"-car debates. Found lots of great information. Finally settled on a car wax (Black Magic Carnauba Liquid). (Zaino looked like more trouble than I wanted to mess with.) Now just have to figure out: Castrol GTX (always used before) or Honda OEM (Exxon). Well, those are debates for other forums. I'll be lurking...

Saturn -> 07 accord ex. Quite an upgrade. Aside from minor rattle issues that I tend to be very sensitive to, I love these cars. I think you made the right decision anyway by going with this over the nissan. Seems most people get sucked into nissans because of the power of the VQ, but almost half of the feedback I find on the nissans focus on their unreliability and cheapness. Nissan is a step below mazda in my book (the 350Z and G35 are awesome cars imo, though reportedly unreliable and expensive to maintain like the rest of the nissans/infinitis). The first car I owned was a 95 accord ex coupe. I never got over regretting that I sold that car until I found my 06 coupe. I actually frequently had dreams that I still owned the 95 accord only to wake up sad when I realized that it was a dream.

Nice car!

Did you buy from Champion Honda? I never knew one existed!

Yup, they exist. Not a bad deal, but probably could have gotten much better if I had tried a little harder. My biggest regret is I should not have bought the extended warranty. Though, 7year/100K for 1.5K additional wasn't terrible, imo.

...
I don't regretting picking the Accord over the Altima, but I probably should have given the Toyota Camry/Corrolla a little more consideration. I used to have a Geo Prizm (read, Toyota Corrolla) and I loved it. Put 250K on it and had to replace the alternator, starter, wheel bearings, oil & tires. That's it. (BTW, both alternator & starter were AC Delcos -- replaced both with Nippendenso.) The Accord's a d*** good car, but I'm preaching to the choir.

We had a 1994 Geo Prism LSI that I drove as my first car. It was great, but it also needed a starter and alternator. Stupid American crap.....

You know you can get that warranty refunded if you don't want it. Just go to the dealer. They will give you the paperwork and Honda will cut you the check for your purchase price of the warranty.

I thought it was refundable anyway at the end of the 7 years/100K :dunno: At least that's the extended warranty my dealer sells. Basically buy it when the car is new and if beyond the original Honda warranty that comes with the car you don't need the extended warranty they refund your money back.

But you're right beyond the now 5 years/60K powertrain and 3 years/36K for everything else, add to that it reliability track record, I don't see the need for the extended warranty other than peace of mind.

1994 Geo Prism LSi = Toyota Corolla Although not quite as nice/reliable as the Corolla.
