I own a 1998 Honda Accord LX 4-door with the 2.3L four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission. The LX comes with a 4-speaker stereo system standard. I'm aware that the EX comes with a 6-speaker stereo system: Two dashboard tweeters being the difference.

My question: Is the LX pre-wired to accept the tweeters? If so, is purchasing and installing the tweeters all that is necessary to upgrade the LX stereo to an EX-like 6-speaker set-up?

The tweeters in the dash aren't worth it I think. If you really want the six speakers, just get component speakers for the front, they come with separate tweeters and are likely to sound good. You'd have to cut holes in the door but I think I'd much rather do that than take the entire dash apart to install these two pieces of junk they call "tweeters" from Honda.

I used the polk momo series to replace my speakers. They have a seperate tweater that pivots and is built into the center grille of the speaker so you dont have to cut another hole in your car. The installers told me that if I replaced the tweaters in my dash the sound wouldnt be good, because of the way they point up to the windshield. I guess the sound gets lost especially when the windows are open. they wanted to cut holes in the doors for seperates. I didnt want to do this so we came up with the polks and that solved the problem.
