I just returned from a road trip of 304 miles each way. On the return portion of the trip I filled up with 87 octane at each end of the drive. I averaged 35.92mpg cruising at 70mph with the AC on. Thank God for cruise control.

My LX currently has 91K, but she still likes the open road.

How about you 5spd guys (manual & auto)? I would think your final drive is taller than mine. You can probably top this.

BTW I did increase the tire pressure by 3psi to encourage this efficency.

I just returned from a trip to the Ozarks to drop my daughter off at her summer job in Branson, Mo. The round-trip mileage was 1385 miles and we averaged 30.55mpg. The trip high mpg was 35.81 on flat interstate @70mph and when we got into the mountain roads (what a Blast !!!) it fell to 29.17mpg.

My '01 LX never missed a beat and hauled the three of us and our luggage in comfort and safety while making the undulating, twisting mountain passage enjoyable.

Upon return the odometer is just 13 miles short of 100K, so I'll soon join the 6 digit club. So far, this car just continues to shine.
I have only replaced front brakepads and tires and routine fluid/filters to date.

Hoping this continues for a long, long time.

Anyone out there going coast to coast this summer?

I just returned from picking up my daughter at the close of her summer job in Branson, Mo.

Again, let me state what a blast it is to drive those back country state highways in the Ozarks. Man, that could be addictive. And the 4cyl Accords are well equipped for these types of outings. I averaged 31.3mpg for this ~1400 mile round trip.

Anyone else out there hit the roads this summer?

according2me,

I haven't done any big trips yet, just a few that were 100 miles or so. I got 34 mpg those trips. No doubt a longer trip would get higher mpg.

I'm really happy with the performance of the 2.4. When I want the feeling of a 6 cyl, I drive the Odyssey (240 hp).

Fish...Yeah the 6's are more powerful and smoother, but you can't beat the 4's on the twisty mountain roads. They can be flung around pretty good.

That reminds me of a trip I took the family on about 15 years ago.
I drove to the Boston area and stayed a couple of weeks (during peak foliage), than to Niagara, NY/Canada for a couple days. On the way back, detoured thru Washington for a few days to checkout the monuments and museums and continued down the east coast to Florida. Stayed a couple days on the white sand beaches along the panhandle and headed home.

I forget how many miles that was but it was well worth the drivetime, lots of great scenery along the way.

a few weeks ago i drove to las vegas and back, about 300 miles each way and although i didnt keep exact track of my mileage, i know that the needle moved a little less than 3/4 of a tank each way. i beleive half a tank on the fuel guage is about 6 gallons so that is about 8 or 9 gallons each way, which comes to about 33mpg. i had the AC on about 90% of the time and was doing 80 or faster most of the way.

i had the oil changed when i got back, at 4,700 miles. ;)

BTW i also have ax LX I4 w/automatic

Just returned from a Christmas road trip, visiting my daughter in N. La., and averaged 35.6 mpg cruising on the interstate @ 70mph for the 320 mile return trip. It's still a nice, economical, comfortable ride.
