We used to have an 03 Odyssey. I miss that van. BenjiBoy650 02-21-2007, 09:24 PM Nice. We used to have an 03 Odyssey. I miss that van. I thought the 03's were far superior to the 99-01's. I drove an 04 for ~1000+ miles and it's much more powerful. The +30/35HP and extra gear makes a HUGE difference  Unfortunately this might mean I may have to be selling the Accord VTECaddict 02-21-2007, 09:37 PM big brother named jessica, eh?  stevencrosbie 02-21-2007, 09:45 PM Nice Ben! Any more pictures? BenjiBoy650 02-21-2007, 10:01 PM Nice Ben! Any more pictures? Nope I got back late tonight and it was already dark and in the garage, so that's about the best shot I could get. Anything else would have been a whole white body panel...not very exciting haha Hopefully get more pics tomorrow or something after she's all cleaned up... OK fine I'll change it to big sister :P stevencrosbie 02-21-2007, 10:07 PM Tisk tisk Ben. Cheating on your girl, Sandy, with her sister. What kind of guy are you? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: BenjiBoy650 02-21-2007, 10:42 PM But the voices told me to... BenjiBoy650 02-21-2007, 10:57 PM big brother named jessica, eh?  My friends don't like the name :( I guess I'll have to dream up a better one haha SCABADA 02-21-2007, 11:06 PM Nice Ben, congrats on your new ride. jermy4 02-22-2007, 12:34 AM Looks nice. Is this going to be your daily driver? VTECaddict 02-22-2007, 01:01 AM nope. its his weekend racer. :naughty: NOSSSSS!!! andysinnh 02-22-2007, 05:50 AM Wow, Ben - a family vehicle already??? :lmao: It is a nice ride. We're out of the minivan phase now - downsizing as the kids head off into that money-sink-hole called college. More pics, please! WolfpackBill 02-22-2007, 07:25 AM Congrats Ben!! So are you gonna be doing any mods to it?? faderrific 02-22-2007, 08:29 AM Congrats Ben!! So are you gonna be doing any mods to it?? I say lower it and put spinners on it! :lmao: :lmao: BenjiBoy650 02-22-2007, 08:47 AM Looks nice. Is this going to be your daily driver? Maybe but probably not just because I drive the most and the fuel mileage isn't that great. We'll see what happens, if it can get 25+ freeway maybe it won't be too bad Mods...I can only dream :lmao: Pretty much I'm gonna get a tranny cooler w/ thermal bypass, screw in tranny filter, 12 qts ATF and maybe alloys It started raining here so we (my dad and I) haven't had a chance to clean up the car, and it's still in the garage. So new pics might have to wait :) stevencrosbie 02-22-2007, 10:41 AM So new pics might have to wait :) Boooo  Accordlover 02-22-2007, 04:39 PM Has the front been wrecked? The front panels in the picture you showed look all crooked, especailly the hood and the fender. What are you talking about...the hood is just open, nothing looks crooked to me Accordlover 02-22-2007, 04:49 PM My bad. Guess I should've seen the gap at the grill as well :). alpha 02-22-2007, 05:13 PM I thought the 03's were far superior to the 99-01's. I drove an 04 for ~1000+ miles and it's much more powerful. The +30/35HP and extra gear makes a HUGE difference  Unfortunately this might mean I may have to be selling the Accord I haven't driven a pre-03 Odyssey for very long. I don't recall ever driving one even when I worked for the tint shop. But the 03 was really nice, really comfortable on long trips. But my parents didn't need a van, it was nice to have the extra space and the comfortable ride for road trips though. stiller fan 02-22-2007, 05:59 PM i am glad that my mother never bought an ody...... not cause of tranny issues, mind you, but wanting to pack even more crap in there for vacation..... i can only imagine what else she would cram into that vehicle..... :lmao:  Coil99 02-23-2007, 09:00 AM Congrats on the new ride! Our signatures look even more similar now... stevencrosbie 02-23-2007, 09:07 AM :worthless Accordlover 02-23-2007, 02:41 PM If you want to add Honda Alloys, and want to keep the tires, I suggest the wheels froma 1997-98 Odyssey EX. I always thought they would look good on a white 2nd gen ody. VTECaddict 02-23-2007, 03:15 PM didnt the 1st gen ody only have 4 lugs? Accordlover 02-23-2007, 06:09 PM Nope. We have a 98 EX in our family, it's definetly 5 lugs. Accordlover 02-23-2007, 06:13 PM Therse are the wheels I'm thinking of more specifically. (Missing centercaps though.) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/centipedemotors/1998%20ODYSSEY%20EX/IMG_5191.jpg BenjiBoy650 02-23-2007, 06:28 PM http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/N4TECguy/IMG_5852.sized.jpg http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/N4TECguy/IMG_5853.sized.jpg Tranny fluid, first drain/fill http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/N4TECguy/IMG_5856.sized.jpg andysinnh 02-23-2007, 06:52 PM Nope. We have a 98 EX in our family, it's definetly 5 lugs. Hmm- does the 2nd gen Odyssey work with 15" wheels? Not sure on the caliper size. Regardless, though, the offset is closer to the Accord range than the Ody range - I actually bought a set of the 1st gen ody wheels on ebay to use on the accord, but they were all bent and the seller took 'em back..... Personally, I'd go with 16" rims on ben's ody for stability... andy BenjiBoy650 02-23-2007, 07:06 PM I don't think 15's are going to work either, I took a quick peek at the brakes when I was under and they look huge. If I were to upgrade to alloys, I'd be looking at the 16/17" polished lines from Honda...98-02 Accord EX V6 Coupe, 99+ 3.2TL/Type-S, 3.2CL/Type-S, AV6MT :) Accordlover 02-23-2007, 07:18 PM Are the steelies on there not 15's? I thought all 99-04's were 15's. :dunno: Nope - when they went from the Oasis/Odyssey 1st gen to 2nd gen, they went to 16" for both steel and alloy. I owned a 96 Isuzu Oasis - very nice small van  andy Amanda Moen 02-24-2007, 06:35 PM Accordlover, that's kind of how ours looks right now, I mean with the missing center cap over the passenger front wheel. We lost ours somewhere between Anaheim and Seattle. We weren't going to even consider trying to find it. Although those suckers are expensive. I'm trying to remember if they're $40 or $70 but they're really expensive. We had to replace them before. Sadly I can't find them on HandA. Our '97 is Black Currant Pearl. stiller fan 02-24-2007, 06:48 PM try a auto salvage yard...... they may be able to help you..... princess 02-25-2007, 11:39 AM Ben, it's in nice shape! Has the interior been kept up too? You can't sell the Accord though.... you have to hang on to it & pass it down to your brother :lmao: Lucky you to have white!! No clear coat to deal with & they shine so pretty!! :D Where'd you find it at? Was this a private party deal? I liked the name you said earlier.... Marshmellow! Of course, I'd end up calling it "mushy" 'cuz we call them MUSHmellows here!! BenjiBoy650 02-25-2007, 11:59 AM Ben, it's in nice shape! Has the interior been kept up too? I know the Accord TW's don't but the article you posted up showed the Odysseys did have it. Not sure, my dad buffed it last night and I didn't see the pads or ask him about it. It was a private party, right by SFSU. I think it's official name will be Marshmallow. We picked up a 02 Camry today too :D This was supposed to be the replacement for the 97 that we sold but the title took so long to come. She's still getting clayed, so we only get to peek into the locker room for now :naughty: Accordlover 02-27-2007, 03:04 PM Did you really get the 6MT wheels ben? The avatar sure looks nice :) . I wish... :lmao: Was just a quick photochop Coil99 02-28-2007, 09:29 AM didn't know that a kid and a clean interior could co-exist Me either... mwmcginn 02-28-2007, 10:28 AM I am jealous of the van Ben. I am really thinking about it. I called my local dealer and asked what they would give me for the accord. Only 12k, so I think the wifes car may be traded. Can I ask what kind of deal you got on it? princess 02-28-2007, 11:13 AM KIDS & clean cars coexsist here. At least with ours, not their parents. My kids weren't allowed to eat or drink in our cars.... long trips had exceptions sometimes, but I was picky abouot what they had in there. I still am. Nothing sticky, nothing around town. I do still use a felt backed plastic seat protector for the kid booster seats. The main problem I get with them is the footprints on the back of the front seats! They get to see me turn red & the veins pop out when I see them!! :lmao: With them back here, I have them in my car more than mom's.... but mine's always cleaner!! (not at the moment on the outside, thanks to the rain this week....don't look!! ):paranoid: faderrific 02-28-2007, 11:23 AM We picked up a 02 Camry today too :D This was supposed to be the replacement for the 97 that we sold but the title took so long to come. She's still getting clayed, so we only get to peek into the locker room for now :naughty: My fiance has a 02 Camry SE, what model did you guys get? She loves her car more than mine, so Camrys' can't be that bad. SSMV6 02-28-2007, 11:36 AM Camry's aren't all that bad if you're just using the car to cruise around or to get from point A to point B... I like to have some fun once in a while so I like the Accord better. faderrific 02-28-2007, 12:20 PM Camry's aren't all that bad if you're just using the car to cruise around or to get from point A to point B... I like to have some fun once in a while so I like the Accord better. And that's exactly what she uses it for. To her it's a tool, to me it's a toy. stiller fan 02-28-2007, 12:28 PM placing bets now to see how long it takes for the tranny to blow up....... sorry ben.... :sorry:  BenjiBoy650 02-28-2007, 04:23 PM Deal was for $9100 :) Tranny blow up...maybe but let's see how far I take it with a 22,000+lb GVWR cooler and 5-10K ATF changes after the initial flush. One guy got 186K that I saw...I might want to challenge him We got an LE I4 AT. Camry is an ok car, really quiet and smooth. One thing about it is that it's really HUGE inside...I was absolutely shocked at how much bigger it is than my Accord and the 97 Camry, it's really like they pulled space out of nowhere. The engine bay looks equally open compared to the 97, the trunk is bigger, and the rear seat feels like 2x the size :lmao: Dunno how they do it. Handling is typical Camry, floaty (dare I say, even worse than the Ody? haha) but smooth. The powertrain is stronger than my Accord's, huge improvement over the previous 5S-FE. I would like to have myself a SE V6 5-speed but that won't happen :( WolfpackBill 02-28-2007, 04:34 PM You're right. The previous gen Camrys are huge! My ex g/f's mom has an '05 SE V6 and we would take that out for a spin at night. The car is floaty but the ride is very comfy. Oh, the back seat...wow!! TONS of space!! :naughty: Accordlover 02-28-2007, 04:41 PM KIDS & clean cars coexsist here. Same here! princess 02-28-2007, 05:03 PM Ben, the tranny will be fine..... you'll take really good care of it with regular changes!! :D OwAce 02-28-2007, 05:13 PM I wish... :lmao: Was just a quick photochop get them. those look absolutely dope. BenjiBoy650 02-28-2007, 05:17 PM get them. those look absolutely dope. I really want to :D But considering 1) it's a family van (17's = worse ride quality) and 2) AV6MT rims are rare and 3) they probably look more in place on an Accord...maybe I shouldnt. Might try for some others instead. Might try for some others instead. other than they are rare. i would pooh pah at all your other concerns. and 17s with 255s/55s would be perfectly comfortable. and trust me they look more on place on the ody than they did on any accord. VTECaddict 02-28-2007, 07:35 PM lower itttt!!! OwAce 02-28-2007, 07:40 PM lower itttt!!! The tread width is much wider than the wheel width... They'll fit and work fine, but it'll look very funny. :) Ben, you should pimp it out with every OEM accessory Honda makes for the Ody! Roof rack, trunk tray, iVES :naughty: OwAce 03-02-2007, 10:10 AM 255's on the 6MT wheels is way too wide... The tread width is much wider than the wheel width... I think the originals are 225/60 16's so 215/55 17's would work (if you had the 6MT rim)... Just got to find something that has the same/ better load rating as the OEMs (98T). BenjiBoy650 03-02-2007, 03:08 PM Originals are 215/65 and changed to 225/60 in the 02 MMC. As for the rims...all is a pipe dream at the moment :lmao: mwmcginn 03-13-2007, 06:30 PM Ben. I am going to go look at an 01 tomorrow. Anything I should keep in mind as I do? Any oddities you have noticed so far? Or should I say Odyties? Any one elses thoughts? The trans was already dealer replaced under warranty. BenjiBoy650 03-13-2007, 06:37 PM Ben. I am going to go look at an 01 tomorrow. Anything I should keep in mind as I do? Any oddities you have noticed so far? Or should I say Odyties? Any one elses thoughts? The trans was already dealer replaced under warranty. stevencrosbie told me that apparently the replaced ones are even worse than the original ones, but I really have no ideas either way on that one. I just replaced my tranny fluid again today and there was still crud on the magnetic drain plug, even though I'd cleaned it twice in the past 500 miles. Guess that's how they work First gear has usually has a delayed upshift unless you lift off the gas. Either it's gonna shift between 2000-2500 or it's gonna shift at 3500+. Consensus is this is normal. Also you'll feel the downshift to first coming to a stop. The sliding doors tend to stick. If it's an EX, this might affect the door motors (trying to open doors that are crazy hard to open, then they burn out). On a LX this ain't really a problem, they still stick but it doesn't really do anything. The fix is easy...so far my silicon spray done alright, but the more permanent fix is some gauze type tape. Rear drums tend to squeal. Only way to fix that is to replace the shoes AND drums, no two ways around it. But if it doesn't bother you, I don't think it does any harm. Some people have problems with the rear vent windows, not sure exactly what...mine been okay. Curious what is the price gap between the 01 and 02 in your area? I believe the 02 is a much better van, if you drive both I think you will see the difference. The trannies I've seen the 5-speed is more reliable but less durable...they break less in the early miles but they started going like clockwork recently after they hit 60-90K. I've seen the 4AT's been chewed up as quick as 20K and seen em go almost 200K too. Post up more if I remember mwmcginn 03-13-2007, 08:46 PM Thanks man. I dont really know on the price difference. I'll have to pay more attention. I wish the sienna of the same vintage wasnt so ugly. BenjiBoy650 03-14-2007, 05:08 PM Ben. I am going to go look at an 01 tomorrow. So didja go? Mine started that at about 130K at in over 25k has preceded to shudder as well on shifts. It has banged hard a few times from a rolling stop and actually set the check engine light once, then it would not shift to D4 until I stopped and cleared codes. I will be replacing my tranny sometime this month or next week :dunno: My boss told me to order the tranny yesterday but I forgot. :thumbsdow Maybe I'll remember tomorrow  I1  P.S. congrats on the new ride  BenjiBoy650 03-14-2007, 05:59 PM I really haven't noticed any ill driving effects really...it shifts like butter now after 3 drain/fills, the only thing you really feel is the 2-1 downshift but I can feel that in some other cars without tranny problems too. I asked about the late shift on Ody forums and they all say it's normal, some people have had it since new and have quite a few miles on their vans. mwmcginn 03-14-2007, 07:55 PM So didja go? Got a new car in the driveway?? :) Nothing new yet. The timing just didn't work out with the sellers. I am wondering if maybe I should just wait another year and buy a newer sienna or odessy. I look at the crash ratings for the different vans and its really those two that stick out. I liked the gm vans until I saw the steering wheel was implanted in the dummys face after iihs tests. I am leary of the tranny issues on the 01 oddy and the sludge/looks on the same years sienna. I get myself in such a damn hurry to buy something and I don't know why. Her car is still in great shape and the truck does what its needed to do. The accord is still best for my commute too. Anyway... to sum it up... I am waiting for that deal to come along, and in no real rush. I will keep you updated when it does happen though. BenjiBoy650 03-14-2007, 08:03 PM Nothing new yet. I am waiting for that deal to come along, and in no real rush. I will keep you updated when it does happen though. I agree you should wait. Ours just came along at the right time and right conditions. We were in between cars (sold the old one and the title on the new one wasn't here yet) so we needed one, the Ody price was right, condition was great, and we'd been lookin for a van anyway but were kind of on the fence since we didn't wanna pay full coverage+collision insurance. The Sienna of that generation I think were pretty decent vans, the sludge is not too bad an issue IMO. I've seen several Toyota V6's go 300K+. Although, my friend has a 98 and his tranny went out around 80K too...so the tranny is not an isolated Honda issue (they failed on the RX300's as well). The new 5-speeds have hesitation problems too. As for the looks, well can't help you there...but I have to say they look VERY nice in certain colors with alloys. I like the GM vans a lot too. Had a couple, one for Vegas/Grand Canyon and one for Seattle/Vancouver. Excellent vans with decent power and great comfort, and 22MPG with 6 people going over the Northern CA mountains gets a  My friend has a first model year Venture with over 120K goin strong :D We probably would have gotten one if we ever ran across the right one, but I never did an active search. mwmcginn 03-14-2007, 09:33 PM Thanks again for the help. I am still jealous of yours.
