My brother got a lucerne today. When you pop open the trunk, it opens ALL the way... while my accord essentially just unlocks.

I assume this is just a spring somewhere, or something like that. Would mimicking that "pop open" be easy to accomplish on the accord?

You might be able to tighten the springs on it, or use the spoiler strength springs.

I used to have a car that opened all the way. It was hell in the rain and hell when it was loaded with snow because it would slide off the top of the trunk, onto the back window, into the trunk. It works nice if it is ok outside though. But I personally like the way the accord is.

I prefer that the trunk lid stay down until I lift it. I've parked in tight places with low-mounted plumbing and/or HVAC ducts that I certainly would not want my trunk lid to smash into if it came up by itself. It also helps to keep things dry in the rain, and helps to shield the trunk's contents from prying eyes.

Now, my first Integra had a hatch that came down by itself. Ouch .. not good.

Should have retrofitted a prop rod! :lmao: Actually I might have to do that on the '02 Camry...I freakin hate how the hood takes forever to open.

That's exactly what I did, but it didn't help the first time I discovered the problem ... the hard way. :lmao: Lesson learned.

Hey MechE, why don't you stop talking and go engineer me a prop rod for the Camry huh? :P

I don't use brooms. I only use vacuums and leafblowers

Hey, c'mon, I wasn't that primitive. I believe the proper technical term is "dowel." :D

Our sable is the same way, the trunk pops up all the way. Very Nice feature. My Aunts Mercedes does this as well.

i like the way it is now, opens it just enough for you to open it up the rest of the way, and as stated before, shields the contents inside from the prying eyes, and the elements

I like the way the Accord's trunk opens. The trunk springs have just enough tension on them not to fall down on your head when it's fully opened and when you close them, no downforce is needed. You just got to pull down and let it drop. :)

As for my mom's Camry's trunk, you can't tell if it's opened or locked until you tug on it...

I would not use the spoiler trunk springs without a spoiler. I installed the springs first when I was putting on my spoiler, and when you open the trunk without the spoiler mounted it really flies up pretty hard even when the springs are in the groove for the lighter setting. My trunk varies so much on how far it opens. When it hasn't been opened in a while, it frequently just unlocks due to the seals kind of sticking together. I suppose I could clean the seals more regularly with some sort of rubber treatment. When I've opened it recently it pops up about 6 inches. If there were any more tension on the springs I would worry about damaging something when it pops open too hard when the seals aren't sticking .
