princess 06-12-2004, 06:09 AM What movies have you seen? Do you recommend any? Any that you'd warn us not to waste our money on?
Last night we saw "the day after tomorrow" It was a bit TOO predictable for me. I thought they could've done better with the special FX. We walked out feeling like we'd just watched a green peace propaganda film. Usually they nuke something to fix the disaster! If you're interested in disater flicks, I'd wait & rent this one.;)
just got a copy of "Monster"
put it on your must see list. its worth it.
princess 06-12-2004, 09:16 PM It's on our rental list.....there's been lots of good things said about it. Now to find the time.......
fearlessfreap24 06-15-2004, 03:59 AM we have seen , the ring, a walk in the clouds, twister, out of time(really good), and something else in class. there are more but i can't remember what they were.
princess 06-15-2004, 07:22 AM We watched Monster last night. It was pretty good. I had a hard time believing that was Charlize! We thought Mystic River was pretty drab. I called the murderer right way early!
We've also done the Twister attraction at Universal Studios. The movie was better, but the attraction gives us westerners a feel for the force of the winds!
princess 06-19-2004, 09:32 AM Today we're going to see either the newest "round the world in 80 days" or "teminal" both look like fun! Has anyone seen either one??
princess 06-22-2004, 03:57 PM We saw Terminal, it wasn't as funny as I thought, but still worth seeing. We rented 50 first dates & it was funny!:lmao:
princess 08-07-2004, 06:27 AM While in FL we saw the Manchuran Canidate. It has a very good premise....but they made a slow movie. The last half hour is the best.
This weekend we went to see Borne Supremacy....we liked the first one. The second one was OK....I had it figured out pretty early though. I haven't read any of the books.
What movies do you own? We almost never bought them until DVD's came out. Now we're getting quite a collection!
what movies do i own? i have a list of about 200. anyone in particular you were wondering about? :P
princess 08-09-2004, 09:32 AM General theme....we have mostly sci-fis & military themes in the grown up movies. About 65, including all 10 star treks, 6 star wars, 3 indys.... 2 OLD ones, Red Dawn & Enemy Mine. Then there's about the same in kids stuff, BUNCHES are Disney.... There's about 6 movies coming out in the next month or so that I HAVE to buy!
Courage Under Fire
Lion King 2
Mulan 2
Aladdin
that come to mind now....
We seem to end up buying movies in groups, usually at Best Buy when stopping by for "toys".:D
We'll be buying THIS country's Star Wars when it gets released next month.
I need another shelf!

have you seen the original Manchurian Candidate?
I thought Bourne Supremacy would have been a lot better if they just held the camera still. A lot of the fight scenes were just a big blur.
I saw The Village this weekend. It is kind of slow to get started, but turned out to be a really good movie. It has the Normal M. Night Shyamalan's twisted ending.
princess 08-09-2004, 12:43 PM No, I haven't seen the original MC. How far back was it done?
I agree, some of the scenes in Bourne would have been easier to watch with a different shooting technique. Over all I liked it though.
We haven't seen the Village yet. We'll probably catch that one on DVD later.

it takes place after the Korean War. it was made in 1962. It was interesting. IMDB.com (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056218/)
princess 08-09-2004, 03:59 PM Now I'm curious, think they'd have it at Blockbuster???
Hey, I found it there! Now next time we go, I'll have to see if it's in our store....
fearlessfreap24 08-09-2004, 04:02 PM absolutely, it is a classic
princess 08-31-2004, 07:45 AM Sometime this weekend we'll be watching John Q kinda in honor of Labor Day....
The movies we watch for Memorial Day are the patriotic themed ones (we have tons) & in Dec.(1st week) we usually watch Pearl Harbor & other war themed ones. Of course, July 4th we pull out Independence Day & the Patriot. Halloween is Haunted Mansion (really B-ish) & Signs.
Oddly though we don't have a Xmas pattern.
When the little ones are here we let them pick one of the annimated movies. There's a bunch of releases coming out over the next few weeks, so that collection will be growing!
Do any of you have certain movies that you feel the need to see at certain times?

jbuffethed 10-16-2004, 03:56 PM Man the last movie I saw in a theater was Elf or Bad Santa. We rented Man on Fire last week, it was pretty good I guess. I am more of a comedy person.
princess 10-17-2004, 08:54 AM We bought the Star Wars trilogy when it was released....finally watched the first one yesterday. We also bought & watched Aladdin. It had been years snce we've sen that one!
Inspector1 11-25-2004, 07:18 AM Here's a link to a good DVD review thread ........

Short Circut (so the boys will know where the robt is from on Star Tours)
Titanic
Bourne Supremacy (have the first one)
Total Recall (not the one I thought it was)
The Seige (sure took on a different light post 9/11)
iRobot (I enjoyed the humor)

all in the past week. Lots of sales!!
He got Shrek 2 & Harry Potter 3 for Xmas.
:D
princess 02-28-2005, 10:18 AM This weekend we decided to catch up on some movie renting....
We watched Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow..... it was nasty, awful, yucky!!!
Then we watched Open Water, disappointing! The actors had absolutely no chemistry! All the dialog seemed forced & very "B".
The last one was A Day Without A Mexican. It was a real snoozer! Nothing like what we expected. I thought it was a comedy that brough up some realistic points.... it was just plain boring!
We still have The Forgotten to watch. So far we're 3 for 4, not worth the fees! I hope this one's better!
So what do you all think of Blockbuster's new policy? We're not liking it, nothing we want is ever in since there's no real return time. We may try Hollywood for a while & if we have no luck there....I'm not sure what we'll do. We've used Netflix & it's OK, accept when you spontaniously want a movie. I think the new policy at Blockbuster will mean closed stores & job loss & they'll end up going all online later. Any other opinions?
Pairallel 02-28-2005, 10:33 AM Blockbuster is being sued in NJ because of false advertising with regard to their new "no late fees" policy. Apparently, after a week late, they charge your account for the cost of the movie, assuming if you kept it that long, you must want to own it. If you complain, or if you eventually return the movie, they credit the charge.
I guess some people have decided that is false advertising, so they are suing for damages.
I was hoping they would sue because the new policy has wiped out the new releases from store shelves, but I guess that's another issue. Our store manager said he has no involvement in movie selection or quantities ordered - it is all decided by corporate computers based on rental patterns at each store.
For example, I asked why they have CSI - seasons 1, 2, and 3, but never got season 4. He said it was completely out of his control, and he had no ability to order a movie title or change a quantity on order.
Pretty sad way to run a business...:(
Have you ever considered the monthly fee rental procedure? I've been on it for 6 months now and it works out great. You can rent 2 movies at a time, as often as you want, for $25 per month, so 5 is the breakeven rental amount. We have been renting 10 - 20 per month, so it works well for us. You can rent movies you've seen before and not feel guilty that you are paying twice for the same thing, and you can get kids movies every day, and trade them for adult movies at night.
If i could just get my hands on those new releases, it would be great all around...
princess 02-28-2005, 12:25 PM Problem with the monthly fee for us is that we might rent 6 movies one month & nothing for the next 2 months! Their fee is too high to pay for nothing when other companies have them in the 12-15 dollar range.
The store problems isn't the fees for us, we're NEVER late. It's the fact there's no movies on the shelves now. With others keeping them so long, we'll miss them all when they're "new releases" now!
I do understand that their "late fees" are done sneaky now.... after the due date you have a week to bring them back, then another month before you're paying for the movie. Since they don't call it a late fee, they'll probably win the law suit. It seems to me that no matter what you call it, it's still a late fee if it's charged when something it late!
:(
brickman 03-01-2005, 03:41 PM Movies on Demand on Digital cable.....there's nothing like it.
stevel 03-01-2005, 03:47 PM Movies on Demand on Digital cable.....there's nothing like it.
when it works... on demand in our area has been incredibly unreliable. :(
brickman 03-01-2005, 03:49 PM Sorry to hear that....I have had very reliable service....no complaints at all!
stevel 03-01-2005, 03:55 PM 's ok. we just got it a couple months ago, used it for a week or two and hasn't worked since... my sister's boyfreind works for the cable company and he says they aren't sure why it doesn't work and I guess they aren't too worried about it.....
Inspector1 03-01-2005, 04:15 PM Originally posted by stevel

I think all cable companies take that attitude even while all the time still charging.. I'm a real thorn in their side when it comes to stuff like that, if I loose 1 hi-def channel for a week I will call them and have them pro-rate my bill.
I1:)
stevel 03-01-2005, 04:41 PM I would call, but when they added on demand for us, it didn't change our rate, so.........
Inspector1 03-01-2005, 05:04 PM No wonder it doesn't work:biggrin:
I1;)
stevel 03-01-2005, 05:08 PM exactly. but what makes no sense is that I live in a town about 5 miles from madison, but in the city of madison, same cable company, different "zone", it woks perfectly. if they know how to make it work there, why not here???????????
Inspector1 03-01-2005, 05:15 PM They probably forgot to plug a cable into the box at the switching station or have a tripped circuit breaker for a power box and their
waiting for the official circuit breaker repair dude:dude: to comeback from vacation to figure it out:nuts:
I1:joker:
stevel 03-01-2005, 05:25 PM does this qualify as "thread hijacking"???? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
i need an excuse to use this....... :puke: :puke:
Inspector1 03-01-2005, 05:41 PM Yes we should be talking about movies:)
Like Star Wars III , I saw several screen shots on another forum
Looks like it will be a good one!!
I wonder if WB is going to make a Loonatics movie?
I1;)
stevel 03-01-2005, 05:42 PM on subject, I'm not too big into movies, but over the weekend I rented for my wife "the grudge" and she said it was not good at all.....
Inspector1 03-01-2005, 05:51 PM I received Dogma for Christmas and still have not watched.:)
I1:)

Excellent movie....I laughed a lot....I hope you can laugh at your religion if you are catholic.
princess 03-07-2005, 04:20 PM We saw "the pacifier" this weekend.....loved it! Giggled the whole time!
We bought the "Love Bug" collection, a new one is coming out june 24th. We also bought Bambi. On the 15th we'll be getting the Incredibles. We haven't seen it, but the boys loved it.
At some point we plan to see "Robot". It looks like fun.
We rented "the forgotten".... it was better than the others we rented, but not wonderful.
fearlessfreap24 03-07-2005, 05:42 PM i thought that The Pacifier was ok. It was nice to see Lauren Graham though, totally did know she was in it. I also saw Be Cool, which if you saw Get Shorty, was freakin hilarious, well even if you did not see it.
princess 03-07-2005, 05:51 PM Does Travolta die? I can only get him (prince) to see movies when he's in them that he dies off! I don't know what it is about him that annoys my prince so much!! It's funny!

No. sorry
princess 06-25-2005, 10:49 AM Last night we saw "Herbie Fully Loaded" it was cute, like the others, in the same dorky way. The Boys enjoyed it. We have the 4 others on DVD, so we'll get this one too.
Next week I want to see War of the Worlds.
anysia 06-25-2005, 11:39 AM I received Dogma for Christmas and still have not watched.:)

You have PM stevel
i1, did ya ever watch it?? the movie is hilarious!!!!!!
Coil99 06-25-2005, 05:25 PM What movies have you seen?
My wife took me to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (or whatever it is called) last week.
It was a good enough movie overall. But I just don't like tear-jerkers....and this one was a big tear-jerker. Those type of movies just aren't for me. If I want to cry, I'll look at my credit card balance.
Coil99 06-25-2005, 06:40 PM rent this one.
I rented Old School a few weeks back. Man, what a disappointment! I was really looking forward to this one, but it stunk.
princess 07-06-2005, 03:28 PM We saw "War of the Worlds" yesterday.... Spielberg managed to mess it up! It was too focused on one person instead of the events going on. We kept elbowing each other to stay awake for the first hour. The last 30 minutes weren't too bad. Our opinion: :thumbsdow
Then watched "The Pacifier" on DVD. Loved it. We'd seen it at the theater, but bought it because it was worth seeing again. If I had the kids' teens to do over again, I'd have given them the same kind of driving lessons he did!! :lmao: "Good, now do it backwards..."
princess 07-25-2005, 06:56 PM This weekend I get a date! We're going to see Stealth. Anyone else planning to go see it?
EXLNavi 07-25-2005, 07:37 PM I wanted to go see the fantastic four.
princess 07-26-2005, 05:44 AM so did you go see it?
EXLNavi 07-26-2005, 06:48 AM so did you go see it?
Not yet, no time!
I did see two great movies on DVD starring The Rock. If you like action, check out "the rundown".
princess 07-26-2005, 08:10 AM I like nearly all kinds.... some of the English chick flicks will lose me in the first 5 minutes though! :lmao: Just can't take it!!
I don't think I've seen that one though.... ummm, maybe I'll remember it on the next Blockbuster run....

Yeah, it's action packed. It also has comedy (Sean William Scott). The best part is the Rock singlehandedly throwing people around like they were dirty laundry!
04blkpearlcoupe 07-26-2005, 11:00 AM I just saw "The Island" with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johanson. I had seen it because I heard a really good review from a news channel movie critic. He said it will be the 'surprise hit of the summer'. Ummmmm.. I no think so. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it about a 6.5. I am a fan of scarlet and of ewan (obi-wan kenobi in the star wars movies) but I felt that this movie was lacking something. It never really made me go "ooooo" or "ahhhh". The story was ok but it was basically an action/suspense/thriller with some plot and lots of action. I'd say it is worth waiting for the DVD.
princess 02-03-2006, 02:12 PM We bought a few DVDs this weekend:
Legally Blonde 1 & 2
Stealth
Excutive Decision
Serenity
Flight Plan
Disney Cartoon Classics vol. 6 & 7
Pete's Dragon
Madagascar
Disney's Funny Factory vol. 1 & 2
A Goofy Movie
Corpse Bride
I need them to release Jungle Book on DVD!!
On Feb 7th Bambi 2 comes out.
I'm still looking for Wag the Dog.
We haven't watched all of them yet & some I haven't even seen yet. Like Madagascar or Corpse Bride.

I have legally blonde 1&2. It's good, but I'm not totally impressed.
For some reason I don't have an awful lot of Disney flicks on DVD... Oh wait, I know why!
The really good disney movies were released on VHS and laserdisc, but the ever so stingy disney corporation has been super slow to release them on DVD. I had a couple of them on LD - Alladin, cinderella, beauty and the beast. I don't have a LD player anymore (left it with dad), so I left my movies too, stupidly thinking Disney would release them on DVD soon. BUt so far they've been slow to release the really good animated movies they made. I'm not talking about Pixar films, or any of the movies with real people, but the cartoons. Don't get me wrong, the pixar films are awesome, but they aren't classic disney.
I haven't checked in a while, so maybe they released the ones I really like on DVD now? :dunno:
princess 02-03-2006, 04:20 PM Disney re-releases every 10 years. So we try to get them when they come out so I'm not on a mad hunt later.
They did re-release Alladin on DVD & Lady & the Tramp & Cinderella this year. Cinderella was in Oct & they are still available.
The kids don't watch them as much as we do. Wait I'll reword that. We watch the classics & princess ones, they prefer the "new" stuff. If it's something they like they'll watch it 15 times & not move on the next movie....drive me nuts. "you just saw that one!" They like the ones that are cartoon collections the best right now.
We have quite a few Disney ones....but we like others too! Shrek 1 & 2 have been fun!!! So many animated ones have stuff over their heads (for now) that we get to giggle at.
I like having a collection that's got varity...that way when there's nothing worth watching on TV, we don't have to head to Blockbuster....
The other day we watched Armangeddon....& cried as usual.... :lmao:
