Sage_EX 04-18-2007, 07:05 PM Been a long time since I dyed anything in car. I bought vinyl dye back in the 80's from the paint supplier, they mixed it, and it was some stong smelling stuff, and penetrated the vinyl well, and was difficult to come off. Also, a company called Mar-hyde made vinyl dye as well, I sprayed some seats with it that were vinyl with cloth inserts and it worked well. Always swore it made the cloth deteriorate though. Looks like it's still made (and says vinyl/cloth but doesn't give a product description): http://www.bondo.com/catalog_brand.asp?hdrBrand=7 Advance Auto used to carry it. However, I seem to recall, it made the cloth seats "stiff". I'd test it on an old mat first. I used to have to touch up the armrests about once a year. I eventually got a spare armrest or two and would do those and just switch out (In my case, black interior, and black armrests were impossible to find, but ivy, tan, etc. were plentiful) Rit dye is going to be a problem I think. Most auto carpet is pretty stain resistant (no matter what you think) as it's polyester I believe, not nylon like house carpet (though there are exceptions), my point being, it might come out, onto something you don't want it to, particularly if it gets wet. AccordEd 04-18-2007, 08:35 PM I'd probably just buy some black mats before I dyed them especially on something that's high traffic. I used VHT interior dye/spray on some door pulls and they held up very nicely but haven't tried it on carpet. dragoncoach 04-18-2007, 09:42 PM It would probably be cheaper in the long run to just purchase a set of black matts. Too messy and after you dye them, you have to worry about them loosing color or worse...color rubbing off on light colored clothes. MotorCity Honda 04-19-2007, 03:40 AM Yeah, I was thinking that it may just be easier to "pony up" and buy another set, this time black....DRATS!!! lol Thanks! |
