Hey everyone...

I've been reading over the site for the past few days and I must say that I've been pretty impressed with the quality of the site and the members. It's great to find a place where us accord owners can chat about our own probs. So I had to sign up!

Anyway, I own a 2000 Accord EX V6 with 52,000 miles on it. I've had it for 2 years now and I love it. My question has to do with the brake light on the instrument cluster. I used to live in Florida where it was always sunny and warm, but I moved to Mississippi last year and went through the first winter. I always set the emergency brake when I park the car, and on cold days when I would release it to drive away, the light stayed on. It would usually stay on for a few miles until I warmed up the brakes and then it went off and was fine. I brought this to the attention of the techs at the dealership in town and they replaced the brake fluid cap, saying the sensor and/or wires coming from the cap was the problem. But it hasn't fixed the light. Now that it's summer again it doesn't happen that often...but on some colder, rainy mornings it still stays on for a while. Any ideas??? I know the light is a dual system light and it staying on could mean a problem with the brake system. But after some taps on the pedal it goes out and is fine. It's just one of those annoying things I'd rather live without. I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Once again, you all have a great site and I look forward to talking with everyone.

Is it possible that the brake fluid is right at the limit? When the fluid warms up it makes it seem as if it has more volume. Try adding a touch more.

A remote possiblity is a coin in the center console. (or metal gum wrapper) Don't laugh, it's happened to many cars!! It makes contact where it shouldn't & causes a light at odd times. Normally, it's more intermitten that your discription. Giggling going down the road changes it's location...;)

Welcome to the bunch here at driveaccord, SCFly99!!

Thanks for the quick response princess...

I checked the fluid level today and it is above the "MIN" line. I'm going to add a little more fluid this week just to test it out, but it may be some time until we get a cold morning...it's been upwards of 95 here daily and the mornings have been hot and humid (typical July in Mississippi). I will see how it works and let you know though.

As for the center console...I didn't check under there because I honestly couldn't find a good way to get it open. Any ideas how to get at the screws or at least be able to loosen something to get a better look down there??

Thanks for the help...

If I find the instructions to open up the center console I'll post then in the "instructions area.

We have 3 day cycles with our weather here.....It was in the mid 90's & today is the transistion day...then we'll be in the 80's. For some reason we aren't having Summer weather much yet! The mornings are below 60! By now we usually have seen 100 a few times! This is driving me nuts!

Good luck with the brake lights!!
