View Full Version : I guess I can do one of these to!
stevencrosbie 04-19-2007, 10:25 PM Since we have this new forum, I figured I'd chime in and tell y'all a little about myself.
Right now, I am 22 (as of 4/20/07) and am a senior at the United States Air Force Academy. I'm a mechanical engineering major with a minor in mathmatics and an emphasis in Thermodynamics (I know I'm crazy).
I'm from the San Antonio area and I'm a Texan at heart. I'm such a Texan I've found myself looking at the new GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax SLE truck as it is amazing and I want one, but I don't want to go into debt for a car. The TL is paid for.
I have a 2005 Acura TL 6MT APSEC. I've loved the car since the concept designs in 2003 and I never regret driving it. It has seen the dealer a fair share of times for a new 02 sensor, new battery, camber kit adjustment, rattles (twice), and a random check engine light. That's the history of the car, but it is truly amazing. I love it. I just think a truck might be more practical for my next duty station. I will wait though and maybe GM will have some awesome deals during March Madness 2008.
After 30 May 2007, I will be a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force. My first duty station is Alamagordo, NM where I will be a test engineer. It's a dream job, so I'm extremely excited for the assignment.
Wanna know anything else? Hit me up. I joined the site after over a year of lurking and now I help w/ moderating this place. Its a fun hobby and I really enjoy helping y'all when I am able to. Plus, the people here are awesome (of course I might be shunned if I get a GMC truck here next year).

now, get back to studying..... :naughty:
stevencrosbie 04-19-2007, 10:44 PM Thanks!
I'm so tired of looking at engineering problems....oh man..that 8 hour exam is going to be horrible..... :thumbsdow
stiller fan 04-19-2007, 11:12 PM wow...
i hope that you get breaks in between..... an exam like that would probably strive most people to take up smoking or drinking on breaks.....
alpha 04-20-2007, 02:07 AM Thanks!
I'm so tired of looking at engineering problems....oh man..that 8 hour exam is going to be horrible..... :thumbsdow Well, I'll share your pain this saturday. At least you can get through the mechanical stuff, that's 45% of the test right there that i haven't had a class in.
Happy belated Birthday!
maddog0z 04-20-2007, 02:13 AM Thanks!

Good luck on the test guys. 8 hours is a long time, but it flies by when you're sweating those problems. I had to start hurrying through the 2nd 1/2 of the test just to get it done. (Im assuming ur talkin about the FE?) Thankfully I passed. I dont know by how much since they dont tell you anymore, but as long as you pass you're still an EIT.
The only advice i can give for the test is to look over the ref book they give you before hand since there's no other good way to study. Good luck fellas
and happy belated bday as well Steve.

zro26t 04-20-2007, 05:05 AM Happy Belated Birthday! Good luck on the test.
EE graduate (Fall '01) here, and have yet to take the test. Have the EIT review manual on the shelf here in my office. I'm a Refining Engineer (I&E), and recently accepted a PM position in the projects group working on LV logistics.
Strive for the top. You won't regret the payoff!

Good luck! I am not excited to be taking this exam, but its alright. I've looked over most of the sections in the review manual, but we will see what I remember.
USAFA has a 96% pass rate, so I really hope I'm not one of the 4%.
What is your major in Alpha?
Spektyr 04-20-2007, 09:13 AM Hehe, happy birthday. You almost got born on the right day. The wife and I just celebrated our annibirthary (or is it birthaversary?) on the 18th.
She and I both have the same birthday, so it just seemed obvious when our wedding would be. Incidentally she's also hoping to put on the Air Force uniform as an officer, but she's coming at it from the civilian side so the odds are pretty steep.
mwmcginn 04-20-2007, 09:21 AM Hey, I forgot where you were. We are coming out the the colorado springs/denver area this next week. Is there anything big you would recommend doing? I am mainly in it for hiking, but if there is something, let us know.
BTW happy bday. Good luck on the finals

What is your major in Alpha? Electrical. Good luck to you as well! I've had limited experience with a good chunk of the Mechanical stuff, so I have to review those a lot. But today is cram day..

Well, if you'd like a short tour of USAFA, let me know. I can arrange that. As for other things, Garden of the Gods is a great trip, the Royal Gorge is a great trip, and if you like some train rides, there are some great scenic rides.
As well, Pike's Peak is beautiful this year. I def. recommend a trip up there.
If you'd like a little tour of the Academy, let me know what day you have available and I'll make it happen. Most of the place is gated, so you'll need an escort.
As well, we have formations Monday, Wednesday, and Friday w/ parades on Wednesday, so if you want to hear me and see something nice, come on Wed.
segentry 04-20-2007, 03:59 PM Thanks for serving our country!
stevencrosbie 04-22-2007, 09:02 AM Thank you. Its always been a dream to do what I am doing. Going to USAFA to be an officer in my eyes was the only road I was willing to take.
Now, the benefits of all the hard years will pay off in 37 days.
mwmcginn, lemme know if you want to see USAFA at all.

Thanks for the generous offer. I would hate to disrupt your time though. It sounds like we are on the right track and going to be doing a lot of the things you recommended. We are stretching out a weekend and so it will be pretty tight and it seems that we only have Friday evening open right now after we get in from Denver, and then drive over, so I don't want to subject you to our crazy schedule, especially when things are wrapping up for you.
stevencrosbie 04-22-2007, 01:53 PM Let me know if you get free. I should be around Friday and Saturday as we have some training going on here anyways.
If you can/want to, just let me know.
Amanda Moen 05-18-2007, 12:50 PM What did you have before the TL? I've heard smatterings of the story, but not the entire thing. Something about an Accord that got totalled shortly after you got it?
