Don't pump gas on May 15, 2007
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in
protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon
overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in
protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most
places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet
network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies
pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and let's try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

Sounds nice. But it wont hurt anybody or help anything. But slowing down and working to get 2 mpg better on the mpg would screw them up big time...

That is an incredible waste of time and horribly short sighted. I'm actually going to pump as much gas as I can that day, and spill a lot as well. Who gives a crap about gas prices in the grand spectrum. If gas prices go up then people may actually pay attention to the cars they drive and their respective fuel economy which usually is related to emissions as well. Unless it hits the masses in their pocketbooks, they'll all keep driving their f250's, h2's and other gas hogging grocery getters. Great, gas prices are 30 cents cheaper, and we're further away from people deciding to drive vehicles that have a lower impact on the environment. Seems like a step to the side and backwards to me, kind of like ethanol. Go take a drive through the rockies and further north and see what the pine beatle has done to the pine trees. Miles and miles of mountains covered in brown, dead pines. I saw it first hand for the first time about 9 months ago and I was disgusted. It totally changed my perspective on this topic.

I agree.

Already been doin this and its been working out great for me so far. Even with my basslink in the trunk and using the accelerator when I need it, I'm still averaging 37mpg on 70% hwy/30% city.

Actually it was sent to my email and seemed to be on every forum so I thought I do it too out of boredom.

I'll do it I guess. I fill my car up on the 1st of every month and a tank ususally last me until the end of the month or so. Car is currently showing a hair above 1/4 and it's been 284miles and 25 days since my fillup (90% City, 10% Hwy - rarely get to 50mph during the week).

Must be nice! Care to take my daily round-trip commute of 105 miles to/from work?

Hah! My dad does twice that one way. And actually yes I would rather have your commute, from the look of the Volvo's chassis comapred to the Accords, it has signifgantly less wear becuase of the highway miles.

Agree with everyone else. This isn't going to work. The same amount of gas is going to be consumed regardless of the gas-out. There might be a drop in gas purchases that day, but there's going to be a spike either during the days before or the days after the gas-out. In the end, it just evens out.

Now, if people just said, "F@ck it, I'm not going to purchase gas anymore. Period." Then that's another story. But that isn't likely to happen since we're so attached to our cars. A better idea would be for people to just drive slower and smarter (e.g. Carpool, complete multiple errands at the same time, stop trying to race other cars to the red light, etc.) and to drive more fuel efficient cars.

Gas outs don't work. Just thought I'd say that in case anyone else didn't. :lmao:

If you really want to make a difference, drive less or drive more efficiently.

This is one of those viral e-mails that have been going around since 1999. There is no organized effort for a Gas-Out. Check out the facts:
