Greetings,
I was reading a thread on the Gen7 forum about detailing with a clay bar. I have never tried clay but would like to. My question: is there any way I can hurt the paint with one? Everyone says keep it wet with quick detailer. I would appreciate the voice of experience on this one.

As long as you keep the paint surface throughly lubed, you wont have a problem. That layer of lubricant prevents the clay from touching the clearcoat and pulls out all the crud thats protruding above the clearcoat. You can also just use some car wash and water, put that in a spray bottle and use that as the lube as well. Saves you a couple of bucks...
Its extremely easy and any sealants or waxes will last a lot longer.

If you drop the clay bar, don't take any chances, just throw it away or you'll risk scratching your finish, constantly check the clay bar for hard particles and pick them out, keep rolling/kneading the bar so that you are using a fresh portion. A clay bar usually does my car about 2-3 times and it's done.

You must park your car outside or something because my current clay bar has done at least 4 or 5 cars and it's still good.
I keep my car garaged and quick detail it whenever I see anything that shouldn't be there. I figure it'll be good for another 2 cars or so before I'll need to toss it.

Nah, I just prefer not to overuse a clay bar, I also use it on the polished
lips of my wheels, I suppose I could stretch a couple more uses but I like them fresh.

I only use mine once before I toss it. The ones I use are only about 18g a piece though. I don't clay often enough to reuse it before it dries out.
