Thanks everyone!! I'm so freakin excited. This is my first home. I was going to fly solo but it was pretty overwhelming so I got myself a realtor instead and it was a good choice. It's a townhouse with an attached garage so I can park and work on my car in there. It's awesome!! I can't wait to move out of here!!! Here's a pic:

The person in the pic is my grandmother. She wanted to see the house with me last weekend and she happened to be in the pic when I took it.

There is definitely a housewarming party for the DA members. Just let me know when will work for everybody.

Man, you are sooo luck. That is one sweet looking house. It's so beautiful.

The houses that look like that out here in Cali will cost you at least $800,000

Unless housing prices fall (a lot) I doubt I'll ever be able to afford a house (like yours at least) out here. Other possibilities would be winning the lottery or moving out to where you are.

Thanks everyone!!! This house was a steal, IMO. I looked at all the townhouses with a garage all around town and this one is the closest to the family and costs the least. We agreed on the price of $125k while other townhouses I looked at are at least $150k.

This house is only 3 years old and the owner rarely lives there as this is her vacation home (she lived in there a total of 7 months). The house still smells brand new!!!

David, you have a beautiful home!! I really wouldn't mind a 2-car garage. Hehe... CONGRATS!!! ...on both your home and graduation!!

Eric, I'm moving out of Richmond. I don't really like the environment around here and everything is too expensive. Heh...I don't think I can even afford a townhouse here. I'm moving to Clemmons, NC (suburb of Winston-Salem). I've lived there my whole life and since my company granted my transfer so that's why I'm moving back down there.

Congratulations!!!

I became a homeowner myself a couple of months ago.

Just make sure you get yourself a good home inspector, so that you can make sure there are no major structural problems. Sometimes these things get hidden and/or ignored, but can cause big problems later on, especially when you want to sell the house.

Also, if your house is governed by a homeowners' association (HOA) make sure you get a copy of the deed restrictions (CC&R's) and read them over. That's where an attorney comes in handy. Ensure that the HOA is okay with you working on your car on your property. Some of them don't like that kind of stuff, and it can get nasty quick. Some of them may just prohibit you working on your car in the driveway but are fine with you working on it in the garage.

Finally, get a floor covering for the garage. Oil tends to stain the garage floor.

Good luck and welcome to home ownership!!

Very nice! Congrats! You can't touch a townhouse here in Orlando for less than $200k (and they are no where near as nice as what you have) A lot of former apartments are being sold as condos, which MIGHT be in the mid-100s for a one bedroom. I looked at some mountain cabins up in North Georgia while I was there and found some really nice homes in the mid-upper 100s, although the job market isn't exactly stellar. I haven't priced them anywhere else, but eventually I would like to have me a cabin home up in the mountains.

Again, congrats on the new home!

Welp, it's official. I have finally signed my life away this morning. I've got cleaners, paint, and other materials so I can get the house ready for me to move in at the end of July. I've got the deck cleaned today and I'll be getting some paint to paint it tomorrow. Next week, I'll be painting the kitchen and my bedroom and hang some posters in my office. :D

Oh, bought a fridge too!! I bought a Kenmore that is made by Whirlpool. It was $1300 after rebates. It's a great deal! I'm sure that will last quite a long time.

congrats! let the homeownership "fun" begin! :lmao:

ahh, back in pittsburgh, you might still find a few stray newer townhouses under 150k. here in wi though, well, the prices ****! we have a single family home across the street from some townhouses that sell for 245K in some cases! ick! that's way too much to share walls with people! i can't believe it costs that much! 125k here will get you a tiny 2 bedoom home in the "bad" areas of town or the equivalent of a 1 bedroom box for an apartment (aka condo with no frills, just a bedroom, bath, kitchen, and living room, no fireplace, no private entry, no fancy ceilings, nothing. )

in other words-you're lucky to get that much home at that price!

WolfpackBill
06-23-2007, 05:20 PM
Thanks guys!! Like I said earlier, this house is only 3 years old and the previous owner lived there a total of about 8 months as it was her vacation home. The price is hard to beat. There're others in town that sells for at least $150k. The one I looked at was beautiful but I dont' really like the location.

Anyways, I've done a little bit with my extremely small back yard. lol... I've painted the deck using whatever paint my parents left over when they painted their deck a couple of years ago. It looks awesome now!! I've also bought a few concrete blocks to make a temporary pathway that leads from the end of the deck to the gate (the backyard is fenced in). When I finished those, I replaced all the air filters in the house and cleaned the walls for the kitchen and my bedroom so I can repaint them next weekend. Boy, I'm really starting the enjoy home ownership now. I've never had a chance to do so many "mods" to my living quarters. It's really weird. But anyways, I took more pics of the house today so I'll post them up tomorrow evening when I get back in Richmond.

Oh yeah...I finally figured out how to use the gas logs and the water heater. I'll figure out how to use the furnace next weekend when I get the power turned on. Yeah, very embarrassing that I didn't know how to use them but I've never had gas appliances. Total time, 45 minutes to figure them both out. Haha...

I'd say that is a STEAL at that price. There is no way in hell that I'd be able to ever get a deal of that price here in Hawaii. No way! A townhouse of that caliber would be -at least- $325,000 and up. Yes, for a townhouse. Houses here are roughly in the $650,000 range right now. And these are houses that are over 10-15 years old.

Congrats and enjoy!!!!!!

Thanks!!!! Jeeze...I guess I did get a good deal. Anyways, updated pics:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/bchung4457/house3.jpg
The house again without the "for sale" sign. Yes, I need to water the lawn. The car in the driveway is my company car.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/bchung4457/house2.jpg
The kitchen. The walls won't be white for long...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/bchung4457/house1.jpg
The living room. It has gas logs and vaulted ceilings. So awesome!

The best thing about this unit is that the front of the house faces north and the end of the building faces east so the temperature of the house stays at a constant 74 or so degrees. I worked at the house all day yesterday and the temperature stayed at around 74 degrees without having the A/C on (the house has no power, stupid me!) despite the high yesterday was around 85 or so degrees.

I have planned to repaint the kitchen walls and my bedroom. That's all I'll be doing until then and they will be done next weekend when I drive back to Winston-Salem.

Well, another week went by and more stuff done to the house. My fridge came saturday morning, I painted the kitchen and my bedroom. Here're the pics:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/bchung4457/P1010299.jpg
The kitchen. I wanted to paint the dining room too but my dad decided against it. He said that can create a visual separation between the dining room and the kitchen. IMO, he's right. It looks good.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/bchung4457/P1010300.jpg
The master bedroom. I forgot what the name of the color is but it looks like chocolate milk. Actually, when I opened up the paint lid, I really did think I just bought a gallon of chocolate milk. LOL...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/bchung4457/P1010298.jpg
My dad's project. He decided that he wants to put crown moldings in all the rooms so he and I went to Lowes and bought almost $400 worth of moldings. I painted them Saturday night and he'd slap them up when he gets his day off on the 4th. I think it's his excuse to find something to do but hey, I don't mind, especially since he paid for it. :P

Looking great, we used to have a Condo, we lost some serious money on it though. My mother is anti-condo now. :lmao:

My favorite thing to do whenever we move to a house with older brass knobs and hinges on doors etc. is change them all to silver. It brings such a more modern flavor, and IMO adds a hint of classiness. It can cost a bundle though, I think it was near 1 grand to do it on our beach house.

looks great! what color/paint is that in the kitchen?? it looks very similar to the color i've been looking for for our bedroom here! a blueish/greenihs/grayish thing. i just haven't found the perfect shade/hue yet. (ah, but painting is yet another thing that's very difficult to do with a munchkin running around!) so, most of our walls are white still!

Thanks!! I have no clue what the color is. It's a really nice color. My little sister picked the colors for both the kitchen and the bedroom (aspiring interior designer at 14 yr. old, lol). It's actually a tad darker but because of the combination of fluorescent light and daylight, it looks lighter. When I go back to NC this weekend, I'll look it up and let you know. I know the brand of the paint is Behr from Home Depot because Consumer Reports rated it the best paint in the business.
