: Be careful when changing you tires
honda761 05-06-2007, 06:10 PM I had my tires replaced at Discount Tires a few days ago. One of the freaking lugs came right off!! Man, I tell ya it hard to find decent workers in the auto industry. You go in for an oil change you gotta check if they close the oil fill, tires check the lugs.
Maybe I should buy a Lexus and just pay for Lexus service :thumbsdow
stevencrosbie 05-06-2007, 06:16 PM Yeah, I always do that stuff myself.
When it comes to changing tires, I make sure myself before pulling out....those guys are not the greatest when it comes to reliability....
Just imagine if one of them put your car together.... :paranoid:
Accordtx1 05-06-2007, 06:17 PM I lost a wheel lock the exact same way... Made Discount buy me a new set..
VTECaddict 05-06-2007, 07:42 PM what does the lug falling off have to do with honda?
and how would a lexus prevent lugs from falling off?
if you had a lexus and the dumbo at discount tire didnt tighten the lug, it would fall off just as it would on a honda, or toyota, or dodge, or chrysler, or ford, or huyndai or....

What does that have to do with getting a tire replaced at Discount Tire?
namegoeshere 05-06-2007, 08:45 PM That's one thing I do now.... check to make sure the oil fill cap is on tight.
Some guy I knew had his Nissan Sentra's oil changed and the service people didn't tighten the refill cap and it came off while he was driving, causing all the oil to come out. As a result, his engine got all messed up and he had to get a new one.
Guess I'll have to add this to my list of things to check before driving off.
Calamity Coyote 05-06-2007, 11:13 PM Luckily this has not been a problem with me. Of course, when I actually have someone else work on my vehicles, I'm the type that will stand outside the garage door watching them as well. If I can not see them in a direct view, I will observe from a distance and try to get as much visual and audiable information as I can. When they put them back on with the air gun, I count the times used on each wheel. After they do this, they are suppose to use a torque wrench to bring the lugs down to spec. I also listen to and count these "Clicks" to know they have done each lug.
ItsaHonda 05-07-2007, 03:19 AM I've never had a lug nut fall off, but I have had a few of the studs broken on the 96. They did replace them after a brief argument and a call to corporate.
brobo 05-07-2007, 03:55 PM discount tire ****s
I bought 4 new tires for my previous car, it went flat in less than 10 miles
spare tire no good
I paid 200bucks for towing and got new tires from costco (can't tow it back to disc.tire, they already closed)
refunded those tire, yelled at the sales guy, leave with better feeling.
2 tires flat, the third gone flat at home.

honda761 05-08-2007, 12:42 PM Discount is going to treat me good, they are going to replace my wheel locks with factory Honda ones all around no charge. Plus, if I am not happy with my purchase I can refund everything within 30 days. I wont do that, these Pilots Exaltos have changed the ride for the better so much.

SiClone 05-10-2007, 10:43 PM With aluminum wheels, you have to bring the car back to them after 100 miles or a few days for re-torquing. Or you can do it yourself if you have a torque wrench.

And how many people do you think do this?
SiClone 05-10-2007, 10:46 PM And how many people do you think do this?

SiClone 05-15-2007, 11:06 PM Air guns do a wonderful job of over-torquing the rims. :thumbsdow

If they are used wrong....they can do tons of damage...
Proper use.....they are amazing.
aljlin 07-25-2007, 12:40 PM Oi that's no good. I know a friend whose friend lost a family member and was badly hurt in an accident shortly after having her tires replaced at costco. Guess costco didn't torque the wheels enough and the wheel got loose on the freeway and fell off... car lost control on the freeway (no surprise...) and killed her younger brother and was badly hurt herself. :( I've always been extra careful when it comes to replacing tires after hearing that story.
