Have 5 free oil change from the dealer....so after running PP for 3k I decided to switch to slightly thicker oil M1 5w-30 EP w/ puro OF. engine is quieter and accel is a bit smoother as well. I will probably run this oil for 6-7k just to be on the safe side.

Anyone else running x-30 instead of x-20?

Running M1 5w-30 since first oil change.Engine does seem slightly quieter
and no loss in mileage. Will migrate to amsoil down the road.

I have Amsoil 5-30 that I bought in Ottawa a month ago, after a few runs with M1 I'll try it. Im sticking with 5w-30 for now on until winter.

Have been using amsoil in our company cars for the last 5 years,
they are my guinea pigs.Great in cold weather and not a single engine
problem.Typically I leave the oil in them for 20km(12k),only because of the
limitation of the filters.

I've been running either M1 5W-30 or Amsoil 5W-30 since the first oil change with either Mobil1 or PureOne oil filters.
The car now has 32k miles and not a single problem with the engine.
Oil analysis came out good except for higher than normal level of Silicone which could have been due to the K&N air filter I was using. I switched to Purolator air filter and will once again do oil analysis when I do an OC around September.
My gas mileage is not the greatest in the city and only around 30MPG on the highway but that's more than likely because of my lead-foot (gotta love the sound the K24 makes without the intake resonator) :)

I did my fist oil change at 5k kms with Mobil 1 5w/30 , It seems to clatter a bit on a cooler day as Mobil 1 is a thick 5w30. After this interval I will go to the 5w20, I only used it because I had it lying around. I have 6k kms on it and it still looks new, will change it out around 9k kms, whenever MMS tells me.

Is it not true that only the Honda's over here "require" 5w-20? Honda did that to meet the strict CAFE standards and tree huggers we have now. The European model of our car takes 5w-40 (or any Honda over seas) part synthetic. It'll either be M1 or Shell Rotella-T 5w-40 syntheitc next time.

The sticker on my car said 34 MPG highway, but I'll never see it b/c I won't put water (5w-20) in this engine. The tolerances may be super tight, but I feel more comftorable using what the boys and girls on the other side of the world are using.

It is true only our cars spec 5W-20...however it is also true that driving conditions are different overseas (ie. autobahn/autostrada in Europe, high temps in ASEAN region), the engines are slightly different (some V6 models have i-VTEC/VCM non hybrid, some K-series engines only make 155PS, etc), and in general you could put 0W-20 to 20W-50 in the thing and it would drive you to the moon (to and from!)

Why do you use TranSynd?

I totally agree that it will last forever if you maintenance regularly.

I swayed from imports (big mistake) for about 3 years and did the whole diesel thing. Transynd is a fully synthetic ATF made by Castrol that all the Duramax/Allison transmission guys run. I ran it mine (425rwhp/860rwtq) and never burned any of my clutches again. It made a huge difference in my heavy truck so I can only imagine the benefits I'll reap in my Honda.

Read my post in Tranny Noise on the 1st page.

I did read the post but the consensus on the Ody boards (where most of the problems occur) is that the verdict is still out on synthetics. Some swear by them (AMSOIL and Valvoline MaxLife in particular), some swear by ATF-Z1. Are there any specs or oil analysis done on TranSynd? In particular the ATF-Z1 analysis shows high phosphorus content and IIRC some of the manual trannies have been said to be incompatible with Redline MTF (??)
