View Full Version : A little MPG Press psyshack 05-09-2007, 03:58 PM Myself and another hypermilier did a little special report for a local TV Station. Will air thursday evening. http://kotv.com/special/reports/?sr=070510 psy princess 05-09-2007, 04:26 PM I'll try to see their video when they post it on their site!! Although I'm so NOT a hypermiler, I do appreciate the ones that have the patience & knack for it. Problem here is that most days traffic is moving at less than 10 mph OR you're hitting light after light going through town. So we opt for fun instead since we can't really do much else. :dunno: Next week my prince has to go to Honda school in French Camp. (almost 50 miles from here) He normally would probably take the Accord... but doesn't want to leave me the Ridgeline to climb in & out of with a stitched up tummy. So I won't have bugs to clean off my car.... but it will make a difference on the gas used. He'll get reimbursed eventually. It cost 70 bucks to fill that puppy this week!! :paranoid: mnkyman 05-09-2007, 06:49 PM very cool man, im interested in learning more about this! were you one of the ppl shown in that clip? make sure to post up/bump this thread when they post up the video psyshack 05-09-2007, 07:08 PM very cool man, im interested in learning more about this! were you one of the ppl shown in that clip? make sure to post up/bump this thread when they post up the video The Vikings cap is me.... stevencrosbie 05-09-2007, 07:20 PM The Vikings cap is me.... Your accent reminds me of home....and that makes me smile. :D Let us know when the full video is up. That is awesome! mnkyman 05-09-2007, 07:51 PM very cool...did u happen to use the accord? stevencrosbie 05-09-2007, 09:12 PM I'm sure he used the Civic. He hates the A/T in the Accord. James.uk 05-10-2007, 09:00 AM I am not prepared to prove the point, :paranoid: :D but I think freewheeling in a car fitted with an automatic gearbox will ruin the gearbox very very quickly!!! The best way to get good MPG is simply to buy a small car with M/T.. E.G. The Citroen AX with 1200cc petrol engine will do 70 MPG if driven in a reasonable manner. And there are loads of similar sized cars doing much the same sort of MPG.. The petrol engined Honda Accord is a large upmarket saloon in the luxury market, and as such will never be economic to run. Add an A/T with Air con and it becomes very expensive to run. "Honda" came 19th across the full range of vehicles they produced in ave MPG in EU. Honda's reputation is for reliability, not economy. . BenjiBoy650 05-10-2007, 09:07 AM Honda's reputation is for reliability, not economy. . Wayne's Accord gets the same MPG as your little diesel...how bout that? psyshack 05-10-2007, 09:16 AM I am not prepared to prove the point, :paranoid: :D but I think freewheeling in a car fitted with an automatic gearbox will ruin the gearbox very very quickly!!! Some of the smaller oil burners may make it over here if they can clean them up to meet our emmisson standards. Just have to see what higher gas prices will yeild. And what Americans will put up with versus fuel cost and car size. We as a country arent very car/fuel smart. Its always somebody else's fault. Never our own. i dont think we will get fuel prices that of the UK. We wont pay tax like that. Well I wont for sure. If I want to be a slave to tax. I would move to cali, NY, or the UK. And the Accord I4 AT does very well with engine on or off coasting. The v6 AT I wouldnt trust if you paided for it. :) psy mnkyman 05-10-2007, 11:26 AM ^the i4 auto does amazingly well on teh highway....but super crappy in the city (from my experience) im currently at the halfway mark on my tank (ya i know, not the best way to judge) and im at about 115 miles...and ive been driving like a grandma psyshack 05-10-2007, 11:54 AM Wayne's Accord gets the same MPG as your little diesel...how bout that? I can get 45 mpg or so out of our Accord as long as I can keep the wife out of the drivers seat. Waynes the best mpg wise. psy mwmcginn 05-10-2007, 12:36 PM Sweet, congrats on making the news. James.uk 05-10-2007, 06:09 PM Hiya Benj. >>>Wayne's Accord gets the same MPG as your little diesel...how bout that?<<< Ist point, my ZX is the same width as the Accord, and only 10 inches shorter, due to it being a hatchback. I.E. no long boot. It also has a 2 litre engine, thats virtually the same size as my Accord, so it's not really a "little" car.. 2nd point.. Freewheeling is illegal here, as it's considered a dangerous practice.. So Wayne, or anyone else caught doing it, would get banned in the UK for dangerous driving. :naughty: If my tyres were at 60 psi, the first time I hit wet/damp dead leaves on a sharp bend in any of the local country lanes, I would almost certainly end up in the nearest hedge!! :paranoid: Ben, I bought my ZX for its reliability and economy, as that's what I require from my car. Had Wayne bought a more suitable car for his requirements, maybe he would be getting 250 MPG? :D Btw... The M/t Citroen AX 1.4 diesel reputably manages 85 MPG when driven in a perfectly normal manner on our motorways.!! . stiller fan 05-10-2007, 06:11 PM Btw... The M/t Citroen AX 1.4 diesel reputably manages 85 MPG when driven in a perfectly normal manner on our motorways.!! . i would love to see testing of that, with proof to back it up....  nothing against you, james.... :) James.uk 05-10-2007, 06:21 PM Hiya Stiller.. :) If you had small diesels over there on your roads, their MPG would amaze you! aannddd.. they will run on used/filtered cooking oil with no mods needed .. heh heh.. Eat yer heart out.. :lmao: I have run my ZX on a 50/50 mix diesel/cooking oil and it actually performs better.. MPG was down about 7% though.. :( . psyshack 05-10-2007, 06:54 PM i would love to see testing of that, with proof to back it up....  nothing against you, james.... :) Stiller alot of auto's found in the UK/EU get wonderful mpg. But they don't have the emission standards we do. There for,,,, even if we wanted them here there hard to get. We need oil burners here something awful. But they are going to have to be cleaner. There petrol cars are right on par in most case's with ours. There are alot of wonderful things to be said about the cars that can be bought over seas. Many of the manufactures sold them here in the 50's, 60's and 70's. And had very good followings for the time. Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot, Renault, Simca, Opel. The list is very long in deed. What happened with them is. These company's basically didn't want to meet US emissions and safety regs. Also they knew there cars wouldn't sell against others sold here with the increase in import tax that would in the end be paid by the end user. So they pulled out. I hated to see them go. I learned to drive on Fiats and others. And the rally cars. Some of these company's put out are awesome. If Honda would ever go rallying they would win big time. As they do anytime they decide to go after the gold ring. I fear Americans are not ready for really slow small cars. I wouldn't mind one for my daily drive. So I will wait and see what Honda sends over here for a oil burner. As for current French and Italian auto production. I wouldn't trust any of it. France is all most in a state of revaluation as is Italy. There are some real social and economic issues in those country's. England doesn't build anything anymore. The Germans or Americans own much of whats left of there industrial base. A by product of socialism. OOO and James,,, coasting in N and or with engine off here in my state of Oklahoma is also against the law. Im not going to stop. and we dont have big brother either. Get your emissions down as low as mine. Then maybe I will think about it. psy psyshack 05-10-2007, 08:46 PM You can find the special report and other video at kotv.com. xcel is putting something together at cleanmpg.com I think it came out great over all. :) psy dohcivtec 05-10-2007, 09:25 PM http://kotv.com/e-clips/?id=6090 i saw the scanguage! James.uk 05-11-2007, 05:05 AM Ello PSY. :) I have no idea what emission rules/regs are for any vehicles anywhere, (and prob wouldn't understand them anyway) fortunately I sit at the other end in my car. :lmao:  Seriously though, I believe the EU emission laws are very very similar to the Ave US ones now, and have been for many years. In my opinion, the reason US drivers dont have diesels or small cars is because fuel is sooo cheap that there is no incentive for change.. People aint bothered? :dunno: I am just as bad. When petrol was cheap here I drove Jaguar/Daimlers, I even had a Daimler double six 5.3 V12 VanDenPlas doing 8 MPG for a long time  But, now that I know the true cost of using fuel I try to be far more economic with it.. :) I also had a Fiat 124 Sport at one time, two fast and light for me though, :paranoid: I couldn't keep it on the road! :D I am better at driving large heavy cars.. :( but thats now rather anti social so I will stick with my ZX diesels. heh heh .. . psyshack 05-11-2007, 05:13 AM Ello PSY. We had a 124 sport coupe and a 850 coupe. The 124 had ingraved in the wing windows. " Do not open above 115 mph " LMAO. |
