I've had my 2007 Accord for about 3 weeks now and almost 1,000 miles and I am pretty happy with it - my first Honda automobile by the way. My last two cars were Buick Regals, the last one with the supercharged engine. I thought I'd miss the power but actually I am quite happy with the pep this little 4-cyl engine has, and I don't miss having to buy premium gas either!
I notice a peculiar engine noise when the car is warm and I pull into my driveway and put the car in park. You can hear what I would call a quiet clunking noise on the driver's side of the engine from inside the car that seems to follow engine speed somewhat. You can't hear it with the radio on or the fan running - it has to be quiet inside the car.
If you rev the engine up to 1000 rpms or more the noise disappears - at first I thought the noise was only there with the engine warm, but I now believe that I don't hear it when it's cold because the rpms are over 1000 when it's cold, but drop down to around 500 when it's warm.
If you lift the hood and listen you can't hear the noise over the other engine noises. However, if you listen carefully near the driver's front tire you can just barely hear it. It is quite noticeable from inside the car however. I think the interior helps filter out the higher frequency noises that mask this one when you try to hear it with the hood open outside.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Any idea what it could be?
