I've had my 2007 Accord for about 3 weeks now and almost 1,000 miles and I am pretty happy with it - my first Honda automobile by the way. My last two cars were Buick Regals, the last one with the supercharged engine. I thought I'd miss the power but actually I am quite happy with the pep this little 4-cyl engine has, and I don't miss having to buy premium gas either!

I notice a peculiar engine noise when the car is warm and I pull into my driveway and put the car in park. You can hear what I would call a quiet clunking noise on the driver's side of the engine from inside the car that seems to follow engine speed somewhat. You can't hear it with the radio on or the fan running - it has to be quiet inside the car.

If you rev the engine up to 1000 rpms or more the noise disappears - at first I thought the noise was only there with the engine warm, but I now believe that I don't hear it when it's cold because the rpms are over 1000 when it's cold, but drop down to around 500 when it's warm.

If you lift the hood and listen you can't hear the noise over the other engine noises. However, if you listen carefully near the driver's front tire you can just barely hear it. It is quite noticeable from inside the car however. I think the interior helps filter out the higher frequency noises that mask this one when you try to hear it with the hood open outside.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Any idea what it could be?

That's just the car putting the tranny in park...but I'm not quite sure what you mean by it follows engine speed. It's only a one time noise right?

If you are referring to the 'tapping/ticking' noise that can be heard from inside the cabin while the car is at idle, it is normal. It is likely the fuel injectors.

My '05 has a similar noise. I'd assumed it was lifter noise. No engine problems at 60,000 miles, either. Honda engines seem to have some quirkiness to them with regard to noise, but it doesn't seem to affect longevity.

As an aside, I traded to this car from a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with the supercharged 3.8, as well. You won't miss the power--I never have. And the fuel economy (with regular!) has been excellent.

Good luck!

No, not just a one time noise. You hear it when the car is stopped and idling even with the trans in Drive, but it seems loudest in Park. Like clunk-clunk-clunk-clunk-clunk at engine speed. It's not a loud noise though - just loud enough to hear and wonder "what the heck is that?"

Someone suggested fuel injectors, and that may be it. To me the sound seems too low (clunk as opposed to tick) to be injectors though, and it sounds like it's coming from down near my feet on the driver's side of the engine compartment.

Hey, I like the area in this forum that discusses some of the lesser-known features of these cars. I learned a few new things there.

I'll be installing a remote starter soon and I'll try to put up a step-by-step description with some photos. I've done this a few times before but never on a Honda and never with the transponder security system. Should be "fun".

Wow, that sounds abnormal to me, I would take your car in to the dealer for their opinion. Sounds like you may have an engine problem. I have never heard that sound before in my 2004 4cyl. I have heard the lifter noise, but that is it. :dunno:

Mine does it, too. Almost feels/sounds like a loose motor/tranny mount or exhaust. Clicking (clunking) injectors crossed my mind, too. Or, maybe some type of resonance. It's done it from day one. Fortunately, the interior rattles drown out the sound (if it exists) while the car is in motion. Like the OP, I only notice it when idling in a quiet cabin.
