Am I the only one who noticed the 7th gen in the background with an awesomely mismatched rear bumper
And in the front/driver side pic, look at how far the passenger side headlight sticks out....wow

No kidding, I noticed that even on the silver car. I doubt that they'll make any major cosmetic changes before production. I still like my rear end much better!
As for the mismatched bumper, that might have a lot to do with how the metallic paint reflects the light differently on the plastic vs. the sheetmetal. :dunno: Several people noticed the same thing when I first posted pictures of my 2006 while it was still at the dealership. It looked fine in person and in every other photo.

Perhaps it's just me, but the black paint on the 8th gen looks like it's been tortured! Notice all of the fine scratches and swirl marks?

It has no projectors so you're glad you have a 7th gen...which coincidentally, has no projectors!

I think he's saying that it's better to have bought a 7th gen and enjoyed it all this time than to have waited for an 8th gen and then be disappointed because it doesn't have projectors either. :dunno:

That headlight bulge is kinda like the current Odysseys. They stick out away from the body like that.
That gold 7th gen. looks like it got rear ended and they just threw a spare silver bumper they had laying around on it.
On edit: After looking at those pics again, those headlights stick out a ton! Yikes.

Things I like:
1) The side profile.... man that reminds me of a bmw
2) The grill.. A real grill!
3) The rims, yup they're growing on me
Things I don't like
1) *The rear - can't really put my finger on why
2) *Headlights/Taillights seem to protrude out past the contour of the body
3) *The rear seems out of proportion to the front, very narrow at the nose and too wide in the rear (like a g6 x's 2) .. Doesn’t fit
*My opinion on these points could all change with the tape off
Things I'm disappointed with:
No projectors
Mirrors patches are not body color
No signals on mirrors
Someone mentioned the quality of the paint - these vehicles get treated like utter crap!
In assembly plants when it is crunch time if a vehicle makes noise it'll go to the squeak and rattle / 4 poster area they will just rip trim pieces off, clips go flying.. it hurts to watch! And the media vehicles, those are specially marked and are the cream of the crop!

Nothing to worry about for anyone looking to buy the 08 sedan. This is typical Honda design characteristics, as in, it grows on you. They always do (most of the time.) These are the designs that have the longest life. We all know this. Most Honda enthusiasts know that Honda Designs have longevity. And we all know they have a funny way of growing on you. Again, that is the exact reason the designs have longevity. I've got know doubts about the bulging headlights and tail lights design. The overall design is bold enough (for an Accord) to attract new buyers and retain current owners. Honda has one of the highest loyalty ratings in the bizz. I don't understand all this fuss about no projectors. I can understand this being a disappointment, but I certainly hope it's not a deal breaker for you. There is so much more important things in a car than projectors. And yes, to me, this car is so much nicer looking than the Altima. This thing is a home run all the way. See you all back here when the car is officially released. I'll have a nice big plate of crow for you. JJ

Absolutely not a deal breaker, nor is the black mirror patches. That's why I was careful to state it purely as disapointing, especially when vehicles in the same genre have em'.
Can't wait to take one for a spin, you can bet I'll be waiting!

Still not feeling it. I have a feeling the 8th Gen is gonna be like the 6th Gen was to me.... just don't care for it. The 6th Gen design never grew on me and I don't think this one will either.
Curious what the interior will look like.
Here's to waiting for the 9th Gen. :(

Gap looks to be about the same as on the 7th Gen to me.
Compare the rear wheel gap on the 8th to that on the 7th. Looks the same.
Now compare the rear wheel gap on the 8th to the 8th's front wheel gap. Doesn't look even to me.... just like on the 7th.
I say the 8th Gen could use a 1.5" to 2" drop in the front just like for the 7th if you want the rear and front to be even like on the current gen Civic's.

I think the current TL is without a doubt the best design to ever come out of Honda/Acura line. I think it will be a hugh task to upgrade from its current looks. Now only If I can get my hands on that TL-S.

Maybe it's just me, but the Accord has always looked smaller than it really is. My 2006 EX L looks alot smaller than a 2006 TL, yet they are virtually identical in dimensions. In fact, the Accord is longer by 2 in! The 8th gen has that "smaller" characteristic to it. I was hoping for a design that looked more substantial, but it appears Honda wants to keep its flagship looking like a compact. I agree that the tech stuff will probably make a difference, the styling will not. I see nothing that makes it that much different from the Camry or the Altima or the Maxima or the Avalon

What about that silver one in the road picture? It also has a blacked-out emblem, but seems to share the same grill, headlight, and hood-line. I wonder if the 3 were a full caravan of Hondas, right from the factory?
The car looks akward, clumsy and geeeky.
Something I might recommend for the wife or her mother.
They should update the 2003 tl and rebadge as a honda.
Im sure that would outsell this piece of crap 10:1.
Better get a 2007 before there all gone.
Looks are important, but obviously someone at honda
doesn't think so.The car must have been designed
somewhere near Ramos Arizpe (Home of the Aztec).

Wow, this is a tough crowd. This is a car that sells 400,000 per year and their money maker. What the hell do you guys think they are going to do to it?
Every year folks here say something about every model year that they don't like, hate the look, etc. But then these same folks buy an Accord! Why has it been a top car on Car and Driver annual poll for a family car? Why when compare to others in this class its always number 1 (most of the time). Because it does everything well, that's why. Maybe not the best looking, maybe not the fastest, maybe not this or that. But overall you just can't beat it for overall value, performance and to take you from point A to B without complaining.
I think it looks good and will look better in person. Then buy one in 2009 because I know this car will always give me what I want.

I am not denying the Accord's overall appeal as a great car. I believe most of the comments in this thread are consistent with the bland external appearance of all the Asian-based sedan offerings in their mainstream lines. Perhaps the design will grow on you; that does not prevent the car from appearing small and less than a flagship of the entire lineup.

No kidding. I find this amusing that all of these comments are based on "spy photos." To each their own, but come on....at least give it a chance. Wait until the official Honda pictures come out or wait until you actually get to see one in person.

I have looked at these pictures more closely and:
1. I think it's fine. There aren't any dorky elements to it, and it's resemblance to a 5 Series in profile is probably a good thing.
2. It has a more wedged shape (which I prefer) than the first pictures alluded to. Not as much as a Gen7, but it's still there. The front (to me) has lost the sports-car look entirely. It is blockier, hoodline is much higher, and it completely lost the interesting fender contour to the hood. The design went from daring to conventional.
3. I think they widened the track and made the wheels more inline with the body-sides (instead of being inset so much). That helps to modernize it a bit. I also think the wheelhouse bulges are a better element than the smooth ones from the Gen7.
4. Back end is still pretty bland. It is obvious Honda cost-cut by putting all lights into one small unit on the ends. An interesting carryover to the trunklid (like a 7 Series) would at least make the trunk look less monolithic. Maybe in a mid-term redo, perhaps.
I think alot of the disappointment might be because it really isn't a huge leap forward. It looks more like a sheetmetal refresh. Actually I think thats' what it is. There is not one element on the '08 that is a new feature for an Accord.
Think of things that were completly different from 2002 to 2003: new side window profile not seen before, pull door handles, new style door mirrors, less conventional front end (think s2000), wedged bodyside accent, not to mention all new swithchgear, LED instrument lighting, audio, HVAC, and console designs completely redone for the first time ever. I'll bet the inside will have alot of carryover stuff from the 2007 and maybe some other newer Hondas.
Think how different the 2002 Camry was from the previous boxy design... now think of the 2007: While different from a 2006, there's really little completely different or startlingly new. It's really a rebody of the previous Camry. Honda has done the same with the 2008.
Different, but not earth-shattering. I think more people wrongly expected earth-shattering. Wait 'til these people find out Honda hasn't added all the features from an Acura (like HIDs, memory seats, keyless start, led this 'n that, etc) like they expected.
Then the bitchin' will begin!

Independent of cosmetic considerations, this new generation Accord better have a friggin' CD-RW/9660 MP3 capable stock deck, dammit. And Bluetooth phone integration.
Maybe the Accord will now live life in the 21st Century. Finally.
:furious: :furious: :furious: 7th Gen is a good car overall, but I remain scathingly angry about Honda's cheap-ass lack of simple CD-RW capability in a 2007 vehicle. What is this, 1985?? Scorn and Hellfire to them for such doltish blasphemy-- Curse on them, I say!!!
Ahh, I feel much better, now.
But they'd better have these brainless features in the 8th Gen--- I friggin' swear...
EDIT: The 7th Generation Accord's stock Alpine CD deck cannot play CD-RW discs. I'm not talking about CD-R discs (the boring type that you can only burn to once). I'm talking about standard CD-RW discs; the type that you can burn to, then erase, then conveniently/responsibly reuse over and over again. I'm talking specifically about CD-RW discs that have been burned as standard audio CDs-- Not mp3 (9660 format) discs-- Just regular, standard audio CD format (identical to store bought discs). In the absence of mp3 capability, I've liked to burn my own audio CDs with a custom mix of choice. Then, when I get bored of it, erase, then make a new mix. That way I don't have to buy butt loads of lame CD-R discs, waste money, waste resources, and waste time-- CD-RW are the correct type of disc to use. I'm offended by lame CD-R. I hate them. And yes, the 7th Gen Accord can play these kind of discs. But not the correct CD-RW type... Grrrr... :censored: :censored: :headbash: :furious:

I can pretty much guaranttee that it won't have the 2 tier speedo. The reason the Civic has it is because of the slope of the windshield. It left a lot of empty dash space, so to fill that void Honda made the speedo for it a 2 tier one. It also goes with the Civics more daring/aggressive styling.
The Accord is too conservative looking for Honda to put a 2 tier speedo.
Besides, you can kinda see in the pics that it's not a 2 tier one.

you know, at first i thought that i would never buy a 7th gen accord. that was mainly due to the strange design and the like. but, as some above posters have stated, the design grows on you. it took me a while more than any other honda out there, but it did happen. problem was, it happened around the time that my friend bought his new LX 5spd MT.

So... first you say that it should have an MP3 capable deck (which it is, you just have to buy the accessory fyi) and then you say it won't read CD-RW's. Are you burning MP3 cd's? Even my 11 year old unit, when it was still in there, could read burnt CD's fine if they weren't mp3 format.
If I were you, I would see what format you're burning. That could be all you need to change. :-).

I find the disparity of audio functions from one model to the next within the 7th gen very interesting, and unfortunate for some.
For instance, I cannot fast forward thru a track with my steering wheel controls. I can only use the f/r buttons to skip an entire track BUT I have full cdrw capability..... or at least I can say that I have yet to put in a cdr/cdrw that didn't play in my hu.
As much as I dislike reaching to fast forward though a track (especially live recordings that can be an hour long set recorded as one track), I'm happy to sacrifice that function and retain cdr/cdrw capability!
