View Full Version : Intermittent wipers - added bonus?
Cordi2005 05-20-2007, 06:11 AM I observed something with my car yesterday while driving with my intermittent wipers on. I had the intermittent delay set to the longest setting. When I would come to a stop everything worked as it had been while cruising. However, as soon as I released the brake pedal, the wipers would wipe once and return to original delay. I tested this several times and it would do the same thing (even with different delay settings). Is this an intentional feature? It is a great idea because the windshield is wiped clean just before you start moving again. Anyone else out there notice this? I have had this car for almost 2 years and just noticed it.
RTexasF 05-20-2007, 06:13 AM It is intentional and pretty smart thinking too.
Also, the faster you go, the interval between swipes is shortened. The INT settings are speed sensitive. And when using the shortest INT interval, they automatically switch to constant LO operation above something like 15mph. Come to a stop, and they will go back to pulsing until you're moving fast enough again.
brickman 05-20-2007, 07:13 AM This has been a feature for a while now. I had it on my 6th gen too.
BenjiBoy650 05-20-2007, 07:45 AM Also does it when you have the parking brake activated at a stop, and then release it. I played with this one time on my Accord and the wipers gave up on me and quit working :lmao: But they worked again after I turned them off :dunno:
Accordlover 05-20-2007, 08:58 AM Was this a 98+ Accord feature?
ItsaHonda 05-20-2007, 11:22 AM My 96 had int. wipers, but I don't remember them being quite that sophisticated...
in4mation 05-20-2007, 11:53 AM oh interesting! i've never noticed this!
Succinct 05-20-2007, 01:18 PM I think a link to this thread would be worth adding to the "Nice Surprises" thread under the "stickie" threads.
BenjiBoy650 05-20-2007, 03:18 PM Somewhere in the nice surprises thread, this is mentioned.

Yeah, I don't think they are. Personally, I like being able to see wen I'm stopped, I don't think I would like it if my wipers stopped when I was at a light.
The C240 has freaky wipers, they come out from under the hood and have this kinda silly mechanism that looks like it would break if I used them non stop. :lmao:
Succinct 05-20-2007, 07:02 PM NE1 know if the current-gen Odyssey also has this feature? :dunno:
VTECaddict 05-20-2007, 07:47 PM all late model hondas should have it. our 03 pilot has it.
stiller fan 05-20-2007, 08:32 PM my mom's 99 TL has it too....
problem is tho, that's when the car starts, runs, and drives without problems.... that rarely happens.... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
It's written in the manual.. Over here in Malaysia, it's only available on the V6 version. The rest don't get this feature, which made a lot of owners fuming mad..
BenjiBoy650 05-20-2007, 10:34 PM Fuming mad over the wipers? Malaysians have bigger fish to fry...like that website where everybody can upload a picture of a car and make them get a ticket :dunno:
WolfpackBill 05-21-2007, 04:18 AM NE1 know if the current-gen Odyssey also has this feature? :dunno:
I'm pretty sure it does. The coolest thing with the current-gen Ody is that your rear wiper will turn on in lo setting automatically when you put the van in reverse whether you have it on or not. On top of that, every time you turn the rear wiper on, the wiper will cycle twice before it pulses. It's pretty awesome.
mwmcginn 05-21-2007, 07:16 AM When I was buying my VP, the literature said that my car didnt have this feature, except it seems to do what everyone is describing, I was imagining though that you could speed it up or slow it down as you wanted, which I cant. Is that true?
BenjiBoy650 05-21-2007, 08:34 AM The VP doesn't have adjustable speed intermittent wipers IIRC

What website is that? Maybe you can post a link here?
About frying, no one get's fried here unless they have outlived their usefulness...
I know a few friends who own the 2.0 and 2.4 Accord who are so disappointed bcoz Honda Malaysia does not install the intermittent wiper feature in their cars, especially since they are paying RM 130k - 160k ( US 30k - 40+k ) for an Accord. May have exaggerated the fuming part, but happy they are not...
brickman 05-27-2007, 01:18 PM US 30k - 40+k for an Accord.
