A cool idea for a carputer would be one that can use either a phones EVDO over bluetooth capabilities, or one that can accpet one of the internet USB keys, or PC cards from wireless carriers.

Nice work there. If I hadn't seen the other pics and only the final pic I would say that thing looks OEM.
Question though.... when the carputer blue screens and crashes on you does the car crash too? :lmao:

Beautiful work!! I plan to do the same sometime in the future. Any chance you could give a brief run down of the process, particularly which products you used?
thanks

I think if one is up to it all the techniques and materials are available all over the internet actually. mp3car.com has tons of threads about fiberglassing. But you won't go anywhere if you don't have the skills and patience and time to learn. Clearly this is what you're selling
I personally would pay for that instead of trying myself and probably end up spending even more on what won't look as professional as this :)

Actually....no fiberglass is used, this is such a small scale project, there is no need for fiberglass, plus fiberglass and plastic don't bond to well...

It loos great even during the day...
ill post day pics when i get home from the trip this weekend..thanks brian..
anyone here ..i DO recommend NexSon for any of your fabrication needs..
now when are we gonna do your accord?
Didn't you say you were working on something for the cubby area that would have a screen but still allow the cubby door to be closed?
john07ex
05-24-2007, 07:25 PM
Well to retain the door it is really hard to fab it in. To me its not worth the time.

Thanks for the props man! I really can't wait to start working on that console, did you want me to go ahead and get you pricing details on the OEM piece from honda?
BTW that carputer, i want to have it around the end of the summer, after I finish working on all these projects, damn, I am excited!, Try and find me a used cheap xenarc screen, the one you have!

As I said in the PM nexson this is SICK!!!
I have been looking at a Lilliput vga touchscreen, how does that compare with the xenarc - also, is that a 7" or 8"?

Hey guys, here is some new pics I found on my card, I have to say, hands down, this is one of the most interesting/highly advanced/impressive mods out for cars, and John takes it to the extend and knows how to use everything!, very knowledgeable!

This is the mod I've been wanting to do for a while now. Hopefully I'll be PMing you in the near future nexon to fab me up one of these cubby screens.
There's so much info on the subject that I've found on mp3car.com, I'm having info overload. If I can find a cheap alternative for getting the "puter" part, I'll definitely do this mod and whole carputer thing.

Pretty sure the opening only fits a 7 inch.

looking really good, all he needs to do now is to cut down the shift knob so its not in the way as much

Oh man I have to know who did that, and if nexson or someone else can do it again. I have a white Accord with beige interior, and I want to do a carputer. My one reservation with the fab at the beginning of this thread was that it would remove the giant wood-trimmed door and introduce too much black into the dash. Details please!

That must be done in some factory, if it isn't then major props to whoever did it. I would assume it is just a wood overlay, probably isn't that hard, you can get that wood overlay on rolls at wal-mart.

I wonder if we could find a wood overlay that matches the Honda factory "pattern", and then apply that to your screen bezel fab. Hmm....keep your eyes open people, that would make me incredibly happy. I'm going to poke around Wal-Mart and Target and some hobby stores but I don't have a lot of hope.

I get all excited everytime I see this thread has a new post.... still planning out my carputer mod and then...... ring, ring, ring, the fiberglass king will be PM'd!!!
So far I'm leaning towards a laptop under the seat with a cradle so I can easily take it out to work on it.
Anyone have pros/cons of Xenarc vs Lilliput VGA touchscreen?

I would defintely team up with John (john07ex), he knows his carputer stuff, and can defintely set everything up for you for a great price, from what i heard and seen, the Xenarc is the BEST screen for our applications and for carputers.
I actually think John and I are going to start teaming up on this carputer thing
