Chemical Guys "ONE"

I got a sample of this product and it works fairly well. It is a waterless cleaner similar to Wet Paint.

This one uses a trigger spray bottle and must be shaken extremely well to disolve the solids that form at the bottom. The smell is to die for......reminds me of mangos, just absolutely yummy.

Like WP you spray it on, wipe it in, and wipe it off. With this product you must use microfiber towels not terrycloth. You are cautioned to wait a few seconds and wipe only one direction when removing it. It worked well but I consider it a follower to WP. It removes light soil and leaves a very nice shine..... I never had a car smell so good on the outside! I was told it contains carnauba wax and the shine looks like it. Not much depth but a very nice gloss. It took about twice as much product as WP to accomplish the same outcome and took a while to "flash" and dry completely. It wasn't a problem, just took longer than I expected. The finish was smooth and got a bit smoother an hour or two later. The finish never got as slick as WP does though. I tried using a terrycloth towel for application/removal and it just doesn't cut it. Using terrycloth did leave marring on the paint that required polishing to remove. It is a bit difficult to see once it dries, I found myself going back over the car to remove spots that I had missed previously.

Overall a good product providing you follow the directions and stick with MF towels but I'll stick with Wet Paint. Good try and works well but not up to par with WP in my opinion.

hey rtf! glad to see you trying out new products! makes it easier on those of us who don't want to mar our cars while trying them! if i had an older car that had issues already, i'd try more new things. well, i tried tons of new on the accord to try to fix the bad bodyshop paint job, but alas, nothing worked.... i spent so much trying to fix all of that that i never got into just trying new things for fun on it. now i have a new and purrrrdeee paint job on the new tsx and i don't want to chance flawing it at all!

The little marring that "ONE" left was due to the terrycloth not the product. It doesn't dry and leave a rock hard surface as WP does. I chose to not follow instructions just to see what would happen. Overall it's pretty good stuff.

i've always been hesitant when it comes to those kinds of products, though i did have one on the shelf for quite awhile! in theory it may even be better than a traditional wash job, but for some reason, take the water out of the equation, and it makes me think, uh-oh, this can't be good for the paint. :lmao:

on that note, i gotta detail the tsx soon... just don't have as much time anymore with melia around!

Are you saying that WP leaves a layer of protection similar to, if not better than, a clear coat? My dad's van is severely oxidized and I want to try to fix it..... maybe thinking of getting some WP. And lucky for me, it turns out my brother has a porter cable I can borrow.

My plan is to pick up some WP, some PoorBoys SSR or Pinnacle swirl remover/polish and take a orange or yellow pad to the mini van for a full on detail.

No it is not as hard as clear coat. It is a harder "shell" than the "ONE" leaves once wiped off though. I've used WP both by hand and machine on oxidized surfaces and the results were spectacular. Use the orange pad with WP. Step up to a more abrasive pad only if required......I've never had to.

If you use SSR 2.5 or 3 you will need a less abrasive polish to further smooth the finish and remove marks. Use a white pad with the 2.5 or 3, move up to orange if several passes with the white don't work. I prefer the WP because it's one pad and one step......more orange pads needed if the surface is really bad. Wipe it off and you're done when using the PC. The car should be clean when using the PC with any of the products you mentioned.

Do you think it's necessary or even helpful to clay before using the PC to polish with, say, SSR 2.5?

Would you say WP's hard shell is similar to Klasse AIO or SG sealant?

PM me so we don't continue taking this off topic.

I have found that when this product sits undisturbed for about a week it takes a GREAT deal of shaking to disolve the large amount of solids on the bottom back into solution. I'm talking around 500 violent shakes (yes, I counted) as opposed to about 50 normal (like a paint can) shakes for Wet Paint. For me this is a disadvantage compared to the other product. Not dumping on it.....it works well but you have to work yourself into a light sweat to get it all in suspension in order to use it. If the outcome was better it would be worth it but it's not in my opinion.

My ongoing take is that it works well but not as good as the originator of the style, in usage as well as final look.

Thank you, I do try. Some work wonderfully and some work pretty good. You have to use them to know the difference. "ONE" is a good product no two ways about it. When measured against the originator of the breed it doesn't quite meet the high bar WP has set, much less exceed it. Strictly my opinion, others may disagree.
