Well, here they are (http://jalopnik.com/cars/accord_ing-to-our-sources/spy-photos-2008-honda-accord-272481.php) - both coupe and sedan - sans masking tape and 'sports bras'.
Not bad, but I think I'm still glad I bought an '07.

Hard to tell, but does the coupe have projector headlamps, while the sedan does not? It may just be me, but it looks that way.

...don't think my '05 EX-L is in any danger of being traded for the new version, I like mine better thank you very much...
...I tend to get my money's worth out of vehicles, my Odyssey is 10 years old and still going strong, so I'll most likely wait for the 9th gen to show up and get a new Accord at that time, after all, my Accord will only be 7 years old...
...not too keen on some of the details on this new Accord, I like body colored door handles better, the bulbous headlights on the sedan are quite ugly IMHO, they should have gone with the style on the coupe for both body styles, and the tail lights on the sedan are purely derivative copies of other makers designs instead of being something unique to Honda...
...nope, now that I've seen the un-taped cars, I stick with my 7th gen, I quite like everything about it...

My sig has been updated. I will get a new accord. Drool. My plan is to sell the Benz before the warranty is over in Jan, put that money away, and when the Accord gets it's minor refresh in late 09' (like the 05' Accord etc.) I'll sell my Accord (IF the price is right) and hopefully have a bit less than half to finance. I'm figuring an EX 5MT Coupe will run $22-23k at least, and if I get $13-$14k for the Mercedes that's half of the car right there.
I love the BMW esque Sedan. It's a copy but it was done well.

Honda should have used the same grille design on the sedan as on the coupe.
I think they look good to very good. Sure will be interested to see how they are packaged with options/features and what has changed.
The sedan, from the side profile, looks a dead ringer for the B5/B5.5 VW Passats to me (1998 - 2005). Would be interesting if someone who knows how to post photos (not me) could show the two.
I do prefer the hood/grill arrangment on my 2006 sedan. Wonder if they will have a manual transmission V6 right out of the gate? I'd guess there will be a wait.

IMO the coupe is leaps and bounds more sexy than the sedan...
Although, I liked the grill when the sedan was masked I just don't think it blends with the rest of the nose.
I still like the TL esque crease
The chrome door handles do nothing for me (this from a fan of chrome).
I do like the larger and new shape of the rear sail window..
I like the rims
The amber strip in the headlights IS HUGE and may look strange on some colors

I don't really see the influence from the BMW 5 Series. To me, it looks less BMW more Saturn Aura.
At the same time, the coupe looks 300M meets Civic from the rear, and Accord meets Hyundai in the front.

Hmm. I think the lines fit the coupe well, but the sedan is not doing it for me...kind of the opposite of how I feel about the 7th gen (which is why I got a 2004 sedan). There's just too much crap going on with the sedan; the chrome door handles manage to blow by Acura's classiness and wind up looking gaudy, and the rear end just looks dammed odd (why can't Honda put a nice ass on their cars? Clearly they're capable, Acuras look pretty good). I see about 4 different cars mashed together in the 8th gen, and I just don't care for it all that much.

The only difference I could think of, at least before the MMC, was the change in color of taillights from red/clear to all red, and the addition of the hybrid. What "minor" change are you speaking of?
There are several!
1. Hubcap change on LX Models.
2. Standard Side and Side Curtain airbags on all trims.
3. The trim in the interior was changed a bit, the 'not an ashtray' lid and the 12v pwr lid changed.
4. Hybrid as you mentioned.
5. Different wheels on EX V6's.
6. Addition of SE Model.
7. Tailight Change.
8. Color changes.
I think that's about it, but there are some 'signifigant' changes (like airbags, that would be a major one for a family). Dealers will need to get rid of the 09's just like they needed to get rid of 04's, when the 05's came in IF Honda does that move again. They haven't done that on an accord before, but usually they follow a 2yr MMC cycle. There has only been one generation of Accords that had a 5 yr model run until the 7th gen. (98,99,00,01,02 & 03,04,05,06,07)
The new accord is just like how I feel about the new civics, I love the coupe but hate the overall look of the sedan. I'm sure it will grow on me tho, I see similar shapes and styling with the 7th gen and new 8th, and I like the way my sedan looks.
But yeah, I pictures it does look very saturny to me also.

Don't forget that XM, and thus the little hump, became standard in EX models in '04. I would consider that a minor change, which certainly make it easier to differentiate the '03, '04 and '05 models.

Does anyone besides me miss the 4yr moldel changes?!
I was bored with the current Accord by the time the 05' came out. When the 06 came I saw an even more generic rear, with a less useful trunk, and an overall bulkier appearance in the back. The front got chromed and some neat little fog light hole covers but that was about as 'revamped' as it got. (Well aside from the 6mt sedan.)
I liked the 3yr cycles! The last one of those was the 86,87,89 Accords. That always kept he Accord fresh and new. The increased length of time between changes makes me question. "Could there be an Accord replacement on the way that is getting more time invested into it?" Hopefully Honda will not pull a Taurus then 500 then Taurus on us. ~sigh~

Okay, here are my feelings (and of course this is a subjective thing):
I like it way better now than I did in past photos.
The sedan looks A LOT like a Camry in the front/side...I see a little bit of Hyundai in there too, though. The rear looks very BMW-ish.
The coupe is VERY aggressive and I am really liking what I see; the rear of the coupe has grown on me.
So, SO HAPPY to see red/clear taillights and it looks like there will be amber turn signals (I despise red turn signals with a passion). I am hoping this is not just a Canadian thing and it stays the same for the US.
Chrome door handles?!? Won't that be hot?!? :dunno: I am hoping it is like the 7th gen. and the higher models are body-colored.
Just a few things there. Of course you really don't know until you see it in person, but I feel MUCH better about it now.

That coupe is hot. The first time I saw the unmasked sedan, I thought it looked like the current Hyundai Sonata. Weird huh, its probably because I have my glasses on... I dunno. Id like to score that Coupe, but I'll be satisfied for awhile w/ my '04, she'll be good enough for me for the next few years here.
Coupe def looks much more aggressive than the sedan. I think the sedan is going to look much better in person. There seem to be all sorts of subtle contours and lines that aren't popping in the pics. I like what I see so far.
If the couple offers a substantial perfomance/handling advanage over the sedan, I might seriously consider the coupe but I hope the sedan will have HFP or standard suspension upgrades available.
Anyone notice the Accord logo changed? It uses lower case letters now: ACCORD -> Accord.

I hope the sedan will bew one of those designs that looks totally different in the flesh - like how the current Civic looked like a Saturn Ion in pics, but didn't look like it at all in person (feel free to disagree).
But who thought up the chrome exterior handles? Are they hiring ex-Chrysler people now?

i'd think hyundai, but then i look back and remember thinking when hyundai released the last 20 versions of the sonata, it had huge chunks of accord in it, then huge chunks of combos of the tl and tsx in it..... so by deduction, i think the reference to the similarity to the sonata is really a reference to accords, tl's, and tsx's. ;) well, mainly now the tl and tsx. the accord look was from the back end when hyundai ripped off the butt of the 03-05 accord sedan and stuck it on the sonata.
i see ALOT of camry from the front and side. :thumbsdow it really looks like someone needs to sit on the front end of the sedan and the coupe and squish it down a little. it looks like an over inflated tl (sedan) and overinflated tsx (coupe). the more svelte looks of the tl and tsx get this one hands down. if they had just made the front end a little less obnoxious looking, mainly a little more "squished" heightwise..... in the pics it even looks as though the front end doesn't line up nicely with the rear. if that makes sense....
the side view reminds me of looking out of the car and seeing a camry next to me at a stop light; i always feel like the camry looks like it's way too high up. the accord doesn't look as high as a whole, but the higher metal door panel gives it the illusion of the height of the camry....
overall, i'm not as turned off as i was by the 7th gen sedan when it was released. that's a good thing now, but possibly a very bad thing later! the stir that the 7th gen created seemed to boost the car up a notch.... the 8th gen is seemingly creating a small stir, but not near as much as the 7th did.
that said, i still prefer the 03-05 7th gen coupes to everything. ;) didn't like the change on them to the all red taillamps in 06. it made it too generic looking. the 8th gen coupe is still preferable lookswise to the sedan given these pics, but we'll see once it's available in person.

I find that statement rather interesting. The most current Sonata is certaintly a Accord influenced vehcile along with soem other name plates, but all the other Sonatas haven't had much 'honda' influence.
My opinion is...
2002-2005 Sonata was a Jag rip-off by far. (My aunt bought one of these cars for that VERY reason. :screwy: )

Anyone besides me see those hood lones and the wraparound headlights? I will give it that most 90's cars had those headlights essentially. It was a trend of some sort.
1989-1992 Sonata - Again, looks pretty much all hyundai from the 80's and early 90's here. Plain and boring boxy cars with italicized H's and the Toyota Oval.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bd/92-93_Hyundai_Sonata.jpg/250px-92-93_Hyundai_Sonata.jpg
I think Hyundai has just entered the copy cat phase; but then again, who isn't? The only original cars Honda has made recently is the Civic, Fit, CR-V, Odyssey, Ridgeline, S2000, and Pilot. Oh wait, that's every car except the Accord. What an idea.:lmao:

i think the 93-98 sonata front looks more similar to stiller's accord in that 4th gen than the 5th gen 94-97... the 94-97 accord looked like a revamped 4th gen, more rounded out.
there i go again... i was referring to the blatantly obvious rip off back side of the accord by hyundai. but they've adjusted/molded that even more since it was originally issued. i wasn;t referring to all of the prior gens of sonatas. hyundai is constantly referring to the "all new sontata". it seems like it's every dang year! :screwy: :lmao: i try not too look too close to see how they've revamped it each year. :lmao:

Yet that would mean Ford copied Hyundai seeing as that body style is 2000-2006.
It's similar to the 1996-1999 Taurus though as well as far as the curvature of the doors go, but not nearly as close as the photo you posted.

I was thinking something like that, but the way it was raked backwards up front in that Sonata, and on the 4th gen accord it was very flat and boxy is what made me decide it was closer to a 5th gen. I could see a bit of copying off each other as well though... For example....
Honda puts out 1990 Accord, Hyundai spends 3 years thinking of how to beat the best selling car in America. They decide ("hey lets smooth the lines out a bit and push the front back to make it look sportier"). Then Honda sees Hyundai's iteration of their 4th Gen Accord and says "Hm, we like where that's going, it looks edgier. Lets crispen things up a bit and start making all the Accords have V shaped grills." If you look closely, all Accords from 1994-2005 have that shape in the front for the most part; however the 2006 kinda ended that.
The H gets bigger every year!

I agree. Now that I have finally seen the "naked" pictures of the coupe I think it's definitely the better looking of the two. I wish Honda would put different wheels on the V6 Coupe. Not a fan of the multi-spoke design. What ever happened to the simple 5 spoke design?

As others have said there is not enough of an improvement (aesthetically) to want to make me trade my 7th gen in.

umm.. the 6 speed actually has a smaller rear sway, 13mm vs 14mm on the auto. i'm not sure if 13mm is a v6 thing or a 6speed thing, but i think its a 6 speed thing.
pretty sure that it's all the V6's....

Hi stevel,
I didn't post much on this board for the past few months and I just noticed that you have a '06 Accord according to your sig. What happened to the TL if I might ask ? I'm just curious since I happen to be a TL owner now myself.

Anysia and I had our first kid on the way, and that resulted in wanting to get into our own house instead of apartment, so the payment of the TL lost it's priority. paying $200 a month less for the accord. so..... that and with a baby in the car I had nightmares of her making a mess in the car, and I guess I worry about that less in the accord for some reason. not that it's been an issue anyways. no negative baby effects in our cars yet.
enjoying the TL? sometime maybe I'll have one again.....

Congratulations, I didn't know you & anysia had a baby.
Maybe a MDX will be in your future when #2 arrives. I drove it and that's what I would get if I needed more room for children.
I love my TL despite some squeaks & rattles. NYC roads can bring out the worst in a TL, thankfully most of my driving is in NJ where the roads I usually travel on are better. My TL becomes quiet again as soon as I reach the Garden State Parkway.

One of my Aunts has an MDX, it's a very nice car. However, it's on its 2nd transmission in 80k miles (2005 model). She's not too thrilled with that.
Hopefully the new ones don't have this issue.:dunno:

my TL had a few annoying rattles too.... very annoying.

they need to have a manual transmission available in one of those things.... :lmao:
unless budgets change or we pay off one car and only have one car payment, and mdx just doesn't fit in. and both it and the pilot present some challenges with carseats, of course that makes stevel want to go play with all of them just to see anyway. :lmao: the ody is the only one that i know would work well for the way we use carseats (things like no coats in the seat, so you need room to move around and put it on within the vehicle.) a sedan works fine with one kid, but i can't seem to figure that particular issue out if there were two. but i think we'd try as hard as we could to make it work with sedans. the desire to own and drive an suv or minivan just is not there!
and maybe since the 8th gen accord is supposed to get bigger, maybe it will make it even easier in a sedan! ;)

Alot of the moms in my neighborhood are beginning to shoot for CR-V's and I'm seeing them replace odysseys. My aunt who still drives her '98 Ody EX bought it in early '99 when she waited for the new odyssey, but she had a paranoia of sliding doors and little children, plus, her Odyssey handles much more like a car, and she likes those car like swing out doors on the older ody's, and at the time, you couldn't get a sunroof on the '99 odyssey, which ultimately sold her on the cheaper and sportier, '98. Oh and no tranny issues! .
All my friends parents have Pilots, you rarely see a new odyssey around these parts as much as you'd see a new Pilot. I like them personally, if someone gave me the keys to one I'd be happy to drive it. The 2005 and newer models have the stronger engine, which makes for a very enjoyable drive.
Should another 'blessing' come your way, and you get the bug for an SUV, I highly suggest a pre-owned Pilot, they're quite easy to find, most have been dealer maintained, and minivans are just so... 90's! :/
Okay I'll stop now. :lmao:

need ability to occassionally transport heavy loads (like all the dang rocks we got earlier this year and had to use the grandparent's buick for.... :lmao: we pimped around town quite a bit in a buick all for those dang rocks! :lmao: )
anywho, lookwise, i'd pick and mdx or crv. usefullness + budget wise, i'd pick an ody or pilot. towing wise? well, who knows.
none of them come with a manual transmission anyway, which really does stink! :thumbsdow
only major goal would be to be able to get kids in and out of car seats and get coats on and off inside of the car to avoid having them wear them in their carseats (per carseat safety tech, anything bulky under a harness has been deemed unsafe nowdays.)
if the 8th gen accord sedan was wide enough to put one carseat outboard and one in the center and still comfortably fit an adult in the other seat to help with coats, it might work out. as long as they don't drop the manual tranny from the accords! :lmao:

The front is starting to remind me of Honda Accord's from the 90's like the 4th and 5th gen but blown up as usual.

Ugh. Still not liking the sedan. It looks like it got bloated again. Probably gonna feel like driving a boat.
The wheels on these V6's are uglier than those on the 7th Gen V6's, and the wheel gap is still there. :thumbsdow
I still want to test drive one though (and the coupe too) to see how they handle.
Will I be trading mine in for an 8th Gen? Nope. Well, at least not the sedan. Only the coupe is somewhat tempting. But I want to see what the next TSX and TL look like first.

The roof is a big glass sunroof, very trick. The rear seats are even more amazing, they recline and heat. And don't get me started on that 14-speaker 600-watt Harmon Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system. Drop DEAD amazing automobile.
oh, and it's the top rated luxury automobile for initial quality, a high honor for any car in it's first year of production. Looks like Mercedes is on the right track again.

One of my Aunt's friends has a CLS550 that I had the opportunity to briefly drive. It's a nice car! I love the styling of the CLS 'coupe' (yet, it's a sedan...), but hers has multiple issues.
I've been spending some time on MB forums now that I own one, and a lot of people say that the best MB's are certified pre-owned because they already had all the issues worked out by the first owner, and they have 100k warrantees. Which is true for me, because my cars issues were all before 39k miles. So 13k Miles later, not one problem. My Accord can't even live up to that. I think it's had something get replaced due to wear/failure every 12k since 40k miles or so.

Beware those two words, especially when put next to one another.
After the first couple of years or so, it goes down hill from there. Hopefully things will improve now that they've gotten rid of Chrysler.

:thumbsdow I'm not liking it. Hope it looks better in person.
I'm sorry but I think both of those cars look fantastic. Honda is moving in the right direction with the Accord. The coupe is the most sporty Accord coupe ever, and the sedan looks very elegant and upscale. While I love my car, I really don't think there was enough difference between the sedan and coupe 7th gen besides two doors. The fact is the 7th gen is pretty bland looking in sedan or coupe and Honda seems like it's trying to rectify that complaint with this new Accord.
By the time I'm ready to buy a new Accord they will be on the 9th gen, but if the 8th gen is any indication of where Honda is taking the Accord, I can't wait.

I feel the opposite. The coupe looks kind of ok, but the sedan is the most boring sedan yet. It just looks boring, there is nothing interesting about it at all, just like the new camry. The accord used to be a practical little car, but was also fun to drive and look at. Now it's an overweight dullard that is probably as boring to drive as it is to look at. I've seen no indication that the 8th gen will be otherwise. Hopefully it stays under 3500 lbs.

Ain't no way an old Accord is 4000 lbs.
I had a 1989 Nissan Maxima back in.... well... 1989+ and it weighed just barely over 3000 lbs and it was built like a tank... and it was larger than an Accord of it's time (1990).
No way a 1990 Accord weighed 4000 lbs.
No question... weight is the enemy of the "tossability" and therefore fun of any car. Being front drive also doesn't help with balance.
That's why the car that replaces my Accord will definitely be RWD.

I saw a 8th gen Coupe yesterday in Broken Arrow, Ok. Its hands down the best looking Coupe Honda has ever put out. they should start popping up everywhere in the next few weeks... It could very well be my next new car.
Im really thinking about trading cars when the tires wear out from now on. When the tires wear out on the wifes Accord it should have close to 70k miles on it. I would hope that would get us into the second year of production on the 8th gen. Of course she would want the sedan. Will have to see what her reaction is when they start rolling around here.
