I read this thoroughly and was amused by the examination at the end.

He makes some good points but his writing style seems to ramble.

When I buy my next Ferrari, I'll be sure to look him up

:lmao:

i dont think its just ferraris.

I guess running lighter oil is better since 90% of wear is at startup.

I agree with the wear assessment.

On our Acura MDX I have an engine block heater. The dealer told me I "didn't need it." I've used it for the past two winters and it's been great. Jump in, twist the key, and within a few minutes the heat comes up, not to mention the wear benefit from warm oil.

I'd like to have an engine block heater installed on my Accord as well.

Yes, that's the study by Dr. A.E. Haas, first posted on BITOG and now co-opted on other sites. He isn't necessarily writing to be published, which may be why it seems to "ramble" as someone said. But his findings are quite compelling, and there is a lot supporting data, including UOAs.

It is actually a series of ten articles and some oil data sheets. To anyone with even a modicum of interest in pcmo and lubrication, I highly recommend reading it. It is not an overly complex or difficult read, either. Here is a link to the whole series.
