Just curious...if so, which ones? What's their view of their Camrys, especially in comparison to Accords? Any recurring themes, either great results or problems? Do they have "Accord envy"? :D

A few friends of mine joke that a Camry is what you drive when you've given up on life and would just like to be done with things.

A Taurus is when life just sucks in general. - There isn't much left to live for in other words.

Never thought of that before.

I agree.

As far as Japanese Buicks are concerned, my 1995 Acura Legend was built like an old Buick. I loved how heavy and solid it felt on the road. I miss that car.

07 Camrys have big time transmission problems. 4 and 6 cylinders. :paranoid:

I have to agree with that statement as well. I owned a 2000 Camry LEV6 for about a year before I got my 2004 Accord. While being a great car that never had any issues it just wasn't the right car at the time. The Accord is a keeper :)
Going from V6 Camry to I4 Accord wasn't an issue either :dunno:

I believe that was on the very first batch of cars and I've read that the problem(s) have since been fixed.

Someone from work has a LE model... nothing wrong with it that I know of.

Guess Toyota's copying Honda with the tranny problems, huh?

The V6's weren't very powerful (190HP maybe?), coupled with an autobox, and the camry's weight it was probably no faster than your Accord, however I'm sure it made less fuss getting up to speed.

I considered a Camry when I wanted to buy a new car. The pricing competes with an Accord.

It just never moved me.

Getting back on topic... I visit toyotanation.com and the main theme on there is how "V-TECH" can kick their Camry's butts but they are still not going to give up on their rides for the "H" symbol! :D They're a cross between V6P.net and DA.net in terms of car mods... Some can go wild, but most of them go mild. It's mainly bacause of the lack of aftermarket support for Camrys plus the fact that it costs much more to mod a Camry than an Accord.

In terms of pricing, the Camry will ALWAYS be more expensive than the Accord... You'll never find a "stripped down" Camry for sale in any trim. They're always adding on the options from the factory. That's where Toyota makes all their money from. When you add enough options to make it comparable to the same level as the Accord, it always ends up $1000+ more expensive. Ie.. The I4 Camry XLE w/leather and sunroof goes for about $27,010 (MSRP+destination), Accord EX-L goes for $25,645 (MSRP + Dest). This comparison doesn't even consider the difference in price including all the incentives just to make thing fair.

man, discussion of the camryota's bring back some b-a-a-a-a-d memories..... :puke: 5 month old accord, hit on the highway=a few very unfortunate days with a "high quality, thought the engine was gonna fall off neon".... :lmao: which in turn left me begging enterprise for a "comparable" vehicle to my 5 month old 04 coupe.... i FINALLY landed an 04 camry (le i believe???) and i got to spend 5 "glorious" weeks driving that bohemeth around... while i feel overall the accord and camry are on comparable grounds, they are very very obviously for two different types of drivers! the accord likes to be driven. the camry likes to lull you to sleep.

aka-the realization of the dawn of the "japenese buick". :lmao:

the accord does seem to have a much broader age group that it appeals to. however, the camry seems to fit that baby boomer generation more than anyone else. the gen that isn't into the buick and also don't have the "have to have usa made" mentality, but wants the cushy ride and laid back drive of one. :lmao:

I gave a lot of serious thought to the Camry SE with the 6-speed auto before buying my Accord. Everything comes alacarte on that car however. And once you start adding options that come standard on the Accord EX-L you end up with a rather expensive Camry. You want traction/stability control, that's extra. How about a moonroof and heated leather seats/heated outside mirrors, extra also. The Accord already comes with a premium audio system (which I think sounds fantastic to my ears) and to get the premium audio system in the Camry was about a $1,000 I believe. All told, when I was done building my Camry, adding a few extra's like wheel locks, cargo net, door edge guard, autodim mirror etc., it was about $30,500. Yes the Camry does have more horsepower and torque, but it doesn't have a manual transmission. I love the manual transmission in my Accord and I'm so happy I have it over an auto.

The new Camry is a nice car, and I'm sure with Toyota's track record will have good reliability and resale value. In the end though the Accord just seemed like a better deal to me. I like getting a car with all the options included, not having to worry about finding the specific options I'm looking for. Except for the foglights and autodim mirror options (not including those items on a $28,000 was a bit cheap of Honda in my opinion) the Accord EXL 6-speed had everything I was looking for in a car in the price range. I guess HID lights, an AUX jack, and an MP3 capable CD player would have been nice in this price range, but even missing those options I'm incredibly please with my Accord. The fact I got it for $1,000 under invoice is amazing and makes me even happier. No way I would have gotten a fully loaded Camry SE for that deal. But I certainly wouldn't fault anyone for choosing the Camry over the Accord. They are both great cars.

Now, had the Camry SE been available with a 6-speed manual transmission, or a steering wheel paddle shift manual/automatic like the DSG in the new Volkswagen GTI, I might be driving a Camry instead of my new Accord... ;)

well that too..kuz the camry's v6 is a 3.5liter and the accord's v6 is a 3.0 liter...onlyif the accord had a 6speed auto transy..try compare the 2.4l inline four of the camry and the accord..the accord whips butt....166hp vs 158hp and 160lbs of torqe and 161lbs of torque respectively..i know it aint much of a difference..but yay..i just like to say..accords kick butt...hehe

Check out this laundry list of problems from one poor Camry owner on Toyotanation. I know anyone can get a lemon, but sheesh!

=========================

I hear ya. We also had to dump our 07 Camry because it was just a pile of junk. I've had american cars that were more reliable.

Just for those who wish to know, 2007 Camry, I4, LE, October build.

1. Our Camry had some serious electrical problems that caused it to just stop on the highway as you were driving along. (Toyota said this was impossible until they had to come and get it on a flatbed one of the times)

2. The transmission slipped out of high gear when you were just driving along. This woulod happen and the engine would rev up until you took your foot off the gas and slowed down below 50mph and then the transmission would "catch" again--until next time. Toyota said this was normal for four cylinder Camrys, and found no fault other to say it must be the way both my wicfe and I drive it)

3. Many times it wouldn't start for about 5 minutes. Finally it would catch and start. Toyota said this was "our fault" because we had an accessory attached to the accessory plug. Even the Toyota Rep from out of state couldn't solve the problem and said that the accessory could be the problem--even when it wasn't connected.

4. Transmission would slip out of gear betwee 2nd and 3rd. This is a four cylinder five speed auto. Again, a different dealer said this is normal for 07 Camrys.

5. Serious hesitation of 3 to 5 seconds. This has been discussed extensively and is a dangerous situation. Toyota says it's normal. (although they have said they are working to find a fix for this "normal" condition)

These were the serious problems. There were aso a lot of little, less serious problems such as the trunk popping open any time. This is a common problem as you can see in any Mall or shopping plaza some 07 Camrys will have their trunk open with no one around.

Speedometer off by 5mph. Many rattles. maint light popping on any old time--even after reset.

The quality just is no longer there. We got rid of it in March after only three months of ownership. Will be our last Toyota. We've been loyal Toyota owners for 20 years. Our first new Camtry was a 90--then a 2000. We also have a 95 Corolla that runs flawlessly. Toyotas are just are no longer like they used to be.

Things started to go downhill for Toyota since their 5th gen Camrys... I mean, c'mon, you're getting a "better, newer car for less money than the 1996 Camry"... they gotta have skimped somewhere! Don't even get me started on the little problems on my mom's Camry....
