That seems to be the trend that I have followed since buying a new 2002 CR-V, a used 2001 Insight (in 2003), a new 2004 Odyssey, and now a used 2000 Accord EX V-6 Coupe that my son will be driving to college in.

The Accord is an Emerald Green, 1-owner beauty with 86,000 miles that drives like a dream. I think my son is now driving a nicer car than I am! I would swap him for my Insight except I don't want to give up the 54mpg.

I like to do most of my own car maintenance and had been perusing the many Accord related forums to try and pick up any tips for the list of things I will be doing on this car (A/C and Air Filters, Oil & Filter changes, etc.). This forum provided me with one big surprise though, Wet Paint Glaze (thanks RTexasF!).

I had been planning to do an "old-school, wax-on/wax-off" clay bar & paint sealant treatment to shine up that green paint but now I can't wait to order and use Wet Paint on it. It sounds like exactly what I was looking for, something that would protect the finish and be easy for my son to maintain.

The CR-V is a medium tan color (Mojave Mist) that is in really bad shape from being parked outside all the time. I'm going to clay and WP that as well.

I've been involved with car forums since 1998 and I can't believe I've never heard of this stuff!

So it looks like my summer is filled with car projects. Fixing up the Accord, cleaning up the CR-V for my daughter (who just turned 16), keeping the Ody and Insight rolling along, and if that wasn't enough, working on my only non-Honda, a 1955 Chevy Bel Air. Ah, life is good!

Welcome! Looks like the kids are getting nice cars!

Word of caution since you do your own work, change the tranny fluid in the new Accord. Some of the V6 trannies had problems and making sure the fluid is clean is a good way towards keeping it running like new. (Only use Honda ATF).

Looks like you have your work cut out for yourself.

and....we do this for all new members with cars....post some pictures. We love seeing them.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Okay, there are a few things I let others handle. The local dealer changes the ATF in all my Hondas every 15,000 miles. The early Odysseys had similar transmission issues so I have always watched that closely. So far, it looks like we got ours after the problems had been worked out (I hope, I hope!).

Honda also re-formulated their CVT fluid and when they put it in my Insight it was like a new transmission. It was smooth before with only the occasional "herky-jerky" feel, after the new fluid, it's even smootherer!

When I have the Accord in I am also going to have them take a close look at everything else to hopefully avoid any future issues. I have most of the PO's service records and last year he had the alternator replaced by a dealer that wasn't his regular one. They said the front and passenger side engine mounts needed replaced. He passed and there was no mention of it on a subsequent visit for his regular service. So we'll see.

Anything else I should keep an eye on with the 2000 Accord?

I don't have any pictures of the car yet but plan on taking plenty of before and after shots during the WP process. Here is one my daughter took last fall of two of the other rides: New and Old (http://users.adelphia.net/~warehows/pics/S01_CA_Westridge62.JPG)

Looks like your covered. Mainly the Auto tranny, alternator, and the stupid clock light were it's gremlins.

That dang clock light would go out all of the time with mine. I think I replaced it twice in both of our Accords.

The 2000 Accord was a great car and should last you fine since you are taking such good care of the tranny.
