Accordlover 07-06-2007, 10:58 PM Well, the list is out, and the sad thing is that there is no longer a 6spd Manual Sedan.
She will be missed. - However, those of you who bought one say hello to excellent resale value!

Accord9404 07-07-2007, 04:50 AM Wow......I wonder why took this step back in time?
Always thought Honda was a 'forward looking company'.

......'04, I'll bet you already know your question's answer: (..and I hate to sound like this............):
...the bottom line: money, profit, margin, whatever. Honda is a business. While I feel they ARE a 'forward thinking company' (they really - IMHO - took a chance with 6 gears and four doors).....when all is said and done, the bean counters seem to prevail. Sad (but true).
Just not that many folks will shift for themselves...............
..best, ez..
JJ_Good_Eats 07-07-2007, 06:56 AM I'm surprised they didn't do a 6AT like the Camry. Maybe Honda is saving the manual V6 sedan for a SI variant in the future that's equipped like a SE?

The Accord has not, and never will see SI in the U.S./Canada.
Sport Injected is a term used solely for Civics, as they appeal to a more young and hip crowd.
Wow......I wonder why they took this step back in time?
The only reason Honda even had a 6MT Sedan in the first place IMO is because that's what they do every time a model cycle is almost over; they create some new trim(s) to inject the line with life.

Like I said above, no SI, and no 6SPD AT because they literally just started using the 5spd AT in 2003 with the Accord. If time is any indication, it could be in use for a long while. From what I hear, the Camry's 6spd is nothing to get happy about.
From Hondapreview.com: "..and watch for possible PAX technology on certain models."
I hope the operative word here is possible and that it's possibly not going to happen. PAX in its current form is expensive and doesn't have that much advantage over current run flat technologies that can run on standard rims.

What are you referring to? The trim levels? Loss of the 6MT sedan?
stevencrosbie 07-07-2007, 08:09 AM It was easy to see the 6mt sedan didn't sell well....my guess....they buyers will have to make the jump to the Acura lineup or the coupe.
As for the 6 speed A/T....not a big deal to me. As long as the MPGs and the 0-60 times are faster...:)

Good way to look at it actually. I mean if you just bought a top of the line Accord, Honda probably assumes you'll be moving up the career latter and making more in the next 3-5 years when the new car buzz has died off and you're ready for another. If you make enough to afford a $25-$30k Accord, you'll probably be making enough to afford a $32-$35k TL by then; if you get raises/promotions often. I was at the Acura dealership when we turned in my mothers TSX at the end of its lease in jan. I saw about 7, 7th gen Accord EX V6's on their lot, and a few 6th gen EX V6's.
So I wouldn't be surprised.
GeoLogic 07-07-2007, 09:54 AM I'm most pleased (and perhaps a bit surprised) to see that Honda shall continue offering their highest trim line Accord with a manual transmission (EX-L with Nav); even if it's still only a 5-speed.
Honda is about the ONLY affordable manufacturer who doesn't suck and offers their flagship 4-door sedan, in the highest trim line, with a manual transmission. Want a Camry with a sunroof that isn't mind numbingly boring (i.e. doesn't insist you get an automatic transmission)? Tough luck. Want an Altima that has leather, navigation, and a manual transmission? Too bad for you! All these other sappy manufacturers force you to get a boring automatic if you want their best offering in a car. :furious:
Meanwhile, Honda allows you to dispense with an automatic if you happen to not bloody well want one-- And, even better, you can get a manual in either the 4 or 6-cylinder engine! Now that's what I call real choice.
My ideal would be a new 4-cylinder diesel EX-L with Navi Accord in manual transmission. Now THAT would be a car: Superb fuel economy, surprising pick up, excellent appointments, and control over how you drive (manual trans)...

Great, lets start another accord SI thread. Just give me a few minutes to get the cyanide (sp?) capsules ready. I consider honda lovers lucky that honda even kept the 6mt v6 in the coupe. Manuals just don't sell very well.
oldmansi 07-07-2007, 12:43 PM No CVT like NIssan and no 6 speed like Toyota. CVT too new to judge reliablilty, but the 6 speed in the Camry has problems , ( at least it did in early production models). :paranoid:
anysia 07-07-2007, 01:18 PM we have one of those rare 6mt sedans too! with navi too. we went the other way-traded the 6 spd tl in on the 6spd accor sedan. :lmao:
only bad thing is, it looks like the tl being offered in an mt is also in jeopardy in the future.... it's no longer offered in the base tl and is now only available in the s version. puts it out of our price range entirely. that leaves the 6spd tsx, which stevel will forever complain that it doesn't have enough power and is too small. so, then that leaves the 6spd accord coupe, which just doesn't work well with a baby.... traded my 04 in because of that. (final clincher that it needed to go regardless of how much i might loose on the deal.... ended up getting 4k more than i owed though. ;) ) oh, but i guess there is always the civic si sedan.... if you want the insurance costs of a civic si! :lmao:
anywho, sad to see honda drop yet another mt.....
i was sad that they dropped the option in the crv for the new model. now the accord looses the v6 6spd sedan... maybe it will make a re-emergence mid model again though! it seems like it sold well enough for that.
stevel 07-07-2007, 01:40 PM No CVT like NIssan and no 6 speed like Toyota. CVT too new to judge reliablilty, but the 6 speed in the Camry has problems , ( at least it did in early production models). :paranoid:
CVT isn't really new. honda used one in civics in the mid-late ninetys. audi has been using one for 4 or 5 years now in some cars... I'm sure there are others, I just don't know them. they are just now becoming more highly advertised by Nissan.
edit.... current civic hybrid uses a CVT also.
kevinhing 07-07-2007, 01:44 PM the 6 MT sedan should definitely return for the MMC of this 8th generation.
keep in mind that in the 7th generation, the 6mt was never offered with a v6 until the MMC, so maybe honda is just waiting to work out the bugs with the next generation and introduce a 6 MT sedan in the 2011 MMC.
i cant wait to see the new features that will be introduced on this generation accord. hopefully honda learns their lesson and includes window felt and a glovebox that isnt 100% hard plastic. also, honda better retain a wonderfully designed, ergonomically fit center console and layout.
Amanda Moen 07-07-2007, 04:27 PM I hope they bring back the 6MT for the Accord sedan. I figure the next car I buy will be when I'm starting a family, and I'd rather go the Accord sedan route first, before going the TL Type-S route. (I'm thinking new car, not used.) Someday I'd like to have an STi, but you can't really use the back seats in those too well, I know from experience.
I was also upset by the lack of manual transmission in the newest generation for the CRV.
Accordlover 07-07-2007, 04:39 PM keep in mind that in the 7th generation, the 6mt was never offered with a v6 until the MMC
That's wrong however I think you meant to say it wasn't offered in the sedan. The 6MT was offered from 2003-2007 in coupes.
flcma99 08-24-2007, 08:41 PM The Accord has not, and never will see SI in the U.S./Canada.

I thought all Honda buyers were young and hip!! I'd like an Accord SI. That would be awesome! A sportier daily driver that can flex its muscles on the weekends. And it gives Honda a step up model from the Civic to the Accord for performance enthusiast. Not unlike Mopar's "SRT" packages, Chevrolet's "SS" line, Mercedes "AMG", BMWs "M", and Toyota's "TRD" to name a few. Come on Honda, everybody else is doing it? Heck, there was an Odyssey that won its class in the One Lap of America; how about an Odyssey SI? Just because we are sensible in buying Honda's doesn't mean the Accord crowd wouldn't love to have a enthusiast model. Honda just hasn't, and you are correct, probably won't feed our hunger.
the 6 MT sedan should definitely return for the MMC of this 8th generation.
I think the VCM on the Sedans will preclude that, more than anything. I would imagine that the computer connection between the engine and the transmission has to be pretty tight for that to work its magic smoothly. Also, probably why the "manu-matic" seems to be missing in the new sedan, too.
