View Full Version : Help with Key Fob Reception after kpt install
mnkyman 07-07-2007, 10:43 PM I recently installed the KPT Window up module on my car, and its great....only problem....today i noticed the reception on my key fob went down at about 5 feet....
its like i have to be next to the car to get the signal to register
couple questions: Anyone install this product? and if so, did you get the same problem?
Where exactly is the antenna for the keyfob's reception?..i realize that its in the door panel (im betting somewhere in the black box of the window/lock buttons)
(PRINCESS: if you can post up any pds you might have that specify this or what wires may be related to it, thanks)
(i know weve covered this before but) is there anyway to boost reception or has anyone done so?...
hopefully its just a loose wire or something along those lines, but i have a bad feeling its not...
princess 07-08-2007, 06:59 AM :dunno: I have no clue where to start!!
Here's the transmitter programming.... maybe it lost it, or part of it somehow.
Foreign_Wide 07-08-2007, 01:03 PM Hate to be so basic
How about the battery in the remote?
It's too easy
Conundrum 07-08-2007, 02:07 PM If it is something internal, it would be a big help to the community if you could try to rig a longer/better antenna to the receiver. I know I'd look into it, but I don't want to take my door apart just for that reason alone (if I were installing a KPT module, tinting, or replacing speakers then I'd look into it).
Still bugs me how all my friends can lock/unlock from well over 100ft away, yet I got to be close enough to the car that I could throw my keys and hit it...

im confused...what is that?
------------------------------------------
i highly doubt its the battery since the car is still basically new (4k miles on it..), but ill try my spare key

im wondering if its some sort of antenna or something that i can add to to help boost the signal...
i know that after market alarms like teh viper use an antenna mounted along the top of windshield to help boost signal up to 1000 feet...if there is some sort of internal antenna, i hoping to diy this and add some sort of aftermarket antenna...
so..anyone know if there is an internal antenna?...
i dont mind opening up the door panel (after doing it once, its becomes really easy, as you know the process) ...its just the "reciever" part is within a black box that im not sure how to go about opening
alphe 07-08-2007, 05:16 PM this might seem hilarious....but ....
i would try simply just placing the remote to your head and give it a shot~
you'd get further distance by doing that~ it allows a stronger signal~
sorry~ if it didn't work~

Here is some pictures of what I took apart, and it shows the antenna.
mnkyman 07-09-2007, 08:16 PM ^very nice
Have you messed with it at all?
----------
personally i was thinking about getting the antenna from a viper alarm or something of the sort and putting that in there...
(the viper alarm antennas around mounted along the top of the front windshield)
thesteve151 07-09-2007, 08:43 PM it might just be the remote going bad, slowly happened to me, now mine only works when it feels like it.:lmao:
VTECaddict 07-09-2007, 08:59 PM mine has horrible range. i have to be within like 20 feet of the car. even less if theres obstructions in the way. same for all remotes, even my new TL key fob. :dunno:
mnkyman 07-09-2007, 09:07 PM ^ ya, my range before wasnt all to great, but i wasnt complaining cause i was able to vent the car windows before i got to the car...now by the time the windows have vented, im at the car and about to get in...and hte car is still hot...

No, I didn't do anything with it yet. I stay quite busy unfortunatley. I just posted it up so people could do something if the wanted. The viper antenna doesn't sound like a bad idea.
Good luck.
