I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I HIGHLY suggest doing a search on this topic as it is without a doubt the #1 most discussed, ad-nauseum, topic on this entire forum.

I wonder if the dealer would mind if I bring in my own oil??? They normally charge $19.95. I like going there because they top off the other fluids and wash it.

Your poor car (and I) just cringed...

Let em do that enough times and you'll have a swirl o' matic paint job on your hands!!!

I avoided it for the 1st 5yrs or so. Its a new machine that cost the dealer $80k so hopefully its pretty good. Does a pretty good job of getting all those bugs off the front and salt off in the winter.

Now that I realized your name "SatinSilver" You will not be the best candidate to tell if the $80k was a good investment or a $80k swirl installer... Unless you really try hard you wont notice minor swirls on your car

Silver is so forgiving YET, it takes alot to get it to really "bling"

I drive up to 1000 miles per week and my oil changes average about every 2 months - i don't sweat it; its all highway miles at 50+ mph. I've used Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend just about every time...Pennzoil Synthetic Blend a couple times and either Fram or the Walmart generic brand.
My "thoughts": Freeway miles & changing so often have gotten me thru 3 Accords without a single engine problem EVER. Maybe i change too often...maybe not, but i've got it down to a science (aluminum racing jack and nice oil drain containers, jack stands etc...it only takes me about 30 minutes and thats allowing for a LONG, LONG drain time: I REALLY believe in LONG drains. Period. I also drain/replace my tranny fluid using Honda Z1 every few months (my local dealer gives me 15% off: 6 quarts are $30).

The main thing I'd be concerned about is the HTHS numbers. You are usually going to get higher numbers with a "thicker" oil. I believe, anything over 2.5 is good. I'm sure there are some 5W-20's out there that will match it, but it just seems that the almost all 5W-30's oils are at about this level. You'd really want that upper number if your doing extended drains like I am. For those reasons, and that it get's hotter than all get out here in Oklahoma, I use predominantely M1 EP 5W-30 in both of my Accords. I'm also doing OCI's around 12K miles. The 02 Accord has about 149K on it and has been fed exclusively M1 5W-30's and still purring like a cat. No valve tick or cold start up noise whatsoever. I know others might argue this post with me and especially if I put this out on BITOG, but seeing/hearing is believing.

Schmoe,
If you really want a high HTHS # with a xw20 oil, then Redline it is at 3.3. As you know I have 2 runs with RL. Anyway, most xw20 oils will have 2.6 or greater HTHS so there's not much to worry about on this front.
