I have an 03 accord with a fin that has a tail light. It stopped working recently. When you turn on the lights it comes on. But when you apply the brake it stays dim. Any one have any suggestions or ideals on the fix?

fin? Spoiler?:dunno:

The 3rd brake light isn't supposed to come at all when the headlights are turned on, only when the brakes are applied.

If this is the light you're talking about there's a faulty spot..... I'd start at the light & inspect all the wiring carefully.

Sorry to post in someone else's thread, but I am having a similar problem.

I have a 2003 Honda Accord DX. My wife crashed the car and we had the rear trunk and bumper replaced. Now the rear brake lights don't light up correctly.

The high mount brake light in the rear window does work correctly. The other four brake lights light up when the headlights are turned on, but not when the brake pedal is pushed down. When I pull out fuse 13, the high mount brake light stops working, but the rear tail lights will still light up when I turn the headlights on.

Looking at the linked diagrams, it looks like there is a 'Rear Junction Block' between fuse 13 and the lights themselves. Is this something that could be broken or malfunctioning?

Does anyone have any other ideas what could be causing this?? I need to get the car inspected this month, and I want to fix it as soon as possible.

you both need to check the wiring, and make sure all the bulbs are ok.
a bulb can just half burn out. most of the time the bright filament will break leaving a 2 function bulb, (or whatever they are called) with only a dim of bright filament, making it look like the bulb is still working, but it is not.

It turns out that it was just the bulbs. I replaced both rear brake bulbs, then tried it. When I tried it, the high set bulb burned out. So I replaced that one too, and now everything is working fine. :) The two brake bulbs were clearly marked as 7443, and the high set bulb was 7440.

At first I didn't realize that there are only 3 brake light bulbs. The two lights in the trunk itself are not brake lights, they only turn on with the headlights.

Thanks for this forum, and thanks for the replies.
