So bad they chose the VW GTI as the US car of the year??? Accordlover 07-29-2007, 12:08 PM There was a time when VW's were reliable!!! My first car was a '86 Cabriolet with over 225k miles when the ODO broke and it leaked everywhere due to the previous owners abuse, the clutch was crap (you didn't even have to press it to shift gears :lmao: ), but she fired up EVERY time, and never died. I sold it for $750 in late 06 and I miss it to this day!!! Cabby - http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r74/Accordlover_2006/P1010001.jpg VW's of today though... entirely different situation IMO. gatrhumpy 07-30-2007, 11:07 AM I haven't heard anything on this. mwmcginn 09-15-2007, 03:54 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZrlFBLjeTE maybe it will be? Succinct 09-15-2007, 05:15 PM Motor Trend's Car of the Year in 1970 or 1971 was the Chevy Vega, which was proven over the next few years to be one of the biggest piles of dung ever manufactured. :thumbsdow I put more stock in Car and Driver's 10 best list, on which the Accord and the BMW 3-series have been mainstays since the early '80's. Still, those guys dont care as much about long-term reliability, as evidenced by their love of VWs and Audis lately. Take all such "awards" with a grain of salt. The whole COY/10-Best thing still feels a little too political, like there's a reach-around corn shuck involved at the corporate level. Trip 09-15-2007, 05:20 PM The driver said the 2008 Accord has electric power steering? :dunno: waldo 09-17-2007, 05:10 PM Motor Trend's Car of the Year in 1970 or 1971 was the Chevy Vega, which was proven over the next few years to be one of the biggest piles of dung ever manufactured. :thumbsdow I put more stock in Car and Driver's 10 best list, on which the Accord and the BMW 3-series have been mainstays since the early '80's. Sometime back in the 70's C&D had a Car of the Year award, and gave it to Chevette! (I hope their faces are still red) I agree that the MT list is not worth much. Chrysler 300M in 1999? Why? But then it was pretty slim pickings for US cars of any significance. Waldo Succinct 09-17-2007, 05:13 PM Sometime back in the 70's C&D had a Car of the Year award, and gave it to Chevette!
