First of all, 2000 Accord EX-L 2-dr, 4 cyl. manual tran. 65k miles.

Last week one of my brakes started to intermitently squeal, primarily at fairly high speed and when turning to the right. I took off both rear wheels and didn't see any obvious damage to the rotors and the plate (heat shield?) behind the rotor wasn't touching anything. It possibly could be coming from the front drivers wheel, but it really sounds like it is coming from the back. Pads appear to be more than fine. Barely use them since it's a manual.

Any suggestions on what else to check, short of taking it in for a brake check? I appreciate any help.

My first guess would be that you have worn at least one brake pad down to the indicator. The indicator is a piece of metal attached to the pad that contacts the rotor as the pad wears. It will squeal intermittantly at first, then will eventually become constnat.

The other problem could be a caliper that is not sliding all the way back into place after the brake is applied.

Either way, the sqeal is trying to tell yu something.
