I've done this before a couple of years ago, and didn't have any problems. Wife said the rear was making a strange noise, so I checked the pads and sure enough, time for some new ones. Got some ceramic pads this time, tired of cleaning up all the dust. Got it jacked up and loosened the caliper. It was on there TIGHT. Had to very carefully place a fat screwdriver between the rotor and the caliper to pry it off. Wasn't like that the last time I did it. Anyway, pushed the piston back by twisting, got plenty of clearence. Installed the new pads, but now, there is not enough room between the pads to put back on the rotor. I pulled the outside part as hard as I could, but it wouldn't give me enough clearance. Now, there are two 10mm bolts on the caliper itself that is covered with rubber boot. Do I have to tighten or loosen them up to free up some more room? ]

I use this picture to explain, number 36 is the 10mm bolts, it connects to the pin. Seems like these two need to loosen up to give me more clearence. Anyway, I've never had to do this before and ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. I have to get this together tonight.

What pads did you buy? Are you sure they dont already have shims on them? If they do, and you put the OEM shims on as well, then it wont fit.

New shims with the pads. Didn't re-use the older ones.

I don't know if they are stuck or not. I can't pull the outer part far enough to get me room to slide the new pads on. I'm thinking that 10mm nut on the slide can be totally removed, by the looks on the diagram. Looks like I'm going to charter into unknown waters here and just take the dang thing off.

Yea, you're going to want to do that anyway. Take the pins out, take the rubber boots off and give it a good cleaning.

I've found my 96 Integra is prone to rear slider pin getting stuck, the front ones never seem to, I loosen these up at least twice a year, usually at summer/winter tire change time.

reading the original post you should have that thing back together by now... i did the front brakes on my 99 and it was a SNUG fit with the piston all the way in and pins pulled to the max. i decided to replace one pin since it was pitting and crappy looking. you definitely wont be doing any harm cleaning and greasing them. speaking from experience, watch the spring that looks like a butterfly that spans the inside of the caliper. mine was a little sideways and part of it was off the pad backing, rubbing on the rotor making a hellish noise. you should be able to see it through the hole in the caliper and make adjustments before the wheel goes on.

Yeah, thanks for all the inputs. It was stupid "mechanic error" on my part. For some reason, the last time I swapped out the brake pads, I took the whole brake caliper off. Pushed the piston back in and the new pads went on with no problems. I guess I was lucky at that time and had enough clearence not to have to take off the pin part off. Boy, talk about feeling stupid, I'll fess up to it. Taking the pins off and the middle part comes right off, is the only way to fly. So much more easier. I can't believe I didn't figure it out. I knew it was there for a reason, but I don't like experimenting with brakes and not having any knowledge. This site is so great.
