View Full Version : can o' worms???

The past couple of days I've been trying to make sure that the people on the Pilot site have the bulletins. Last time I did this they were pretty rude about it. It was as if "shooting the messenger" was going to make the issues go away.

Like the Accord, we've only had a couple of things that needed attention on the Pilot. We just don't panic over them!

I realize that we have a unique situation where we deal with our own Hondas..... but I think I'd rather know what could happen to my car than just hope that every little part is perfect & that the people in the factory weren't having a bad day!

Like Pooh says. "being of a simple mind, with a brain that's not too big...." I am always shocked when consumers get shafted by the dealers. That's the whole point in sharing this info, so the consumer can be ready for a shady shop! The public, according to dateline, only has a 25% chance of dealing with an honest person for car repairs! That's so sad! I have a tendency to believe it goes up slightly when it's a dealer since they do insist their techs go to schools for the make of car. But knowledge doesn't counter the dishonesty out there!

As an example of stupity: the other day my Prince noticed a fellow tech was running a car while vacuuming out the coolant. He, of course, told him how wrong that was..... the tech argued, saying that's how this machine says to do it. What it says is " run car car until it reaches full operating temp so the thermostat is open, then vacuum." Most would know to turn it off, but this guy didn't & even after the conversation ran the next car! This is a jouneyman level tech that just came in from a Chevy dealership.

Sorry for the rambling.....

I'm just in defensive mode since I have a feeling someone at the other site is going to give me some sort of flack for the 6 or so bulletins I posted......:(

Well I for one would just as soon someone be banned from the board if they give you flak on here for posting TSBs. I really appreciate them. I have to know before I go into the shop what the probable cause(s) might be. There is no trust between me and a dealership. Unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

You're definitely appreciated here!

guess they just aren't thinking about how helpful it could be for them... :( don't worry about us though!! you know we all appreciate the tsb's and all over here!!!

Thanks. I really DO want to help.... I see it from both sides, the tech's & the consumer, & if I can make it easier on both then there's bound to be a few happier people out in the real world!

The prince says I should just leave the Pilot site alone, but I noticed that they didn't have but maybe half of the bulletins. We joined it when it was new, looking for info on the then upcoming Pilots. I have visited, but not posted quite a bit.

I'm sure that it's just a handful of loud people that were so rude & maybe they've calmed down or faded away.....

Anyway, I wish I could change all the dealerships' management & techs to knowledgable, decent people....but I can't....so instead I can help arm the ones having to put up with it!

A small part of the problem is the way they pay.....flat rate isn't good for getting stuff diagnosed. Years back we tried to talk the dealer where prince is into paying a couple extra dollars to the ones that do the majority of diagnosing to make up for the lost time. They refused stating all should be able to do it. In therory that's right, but the same few seem to always get them while the others do services all day long!

I do feel appreciated here & I wasn't fishin'. The whole atmosphere is different here! I think it's a more intelligent bunch, but also kinder & more intune to people. :)

All I can do is keep trying......right?

I've often wondered why the TSB's were lacking on the Pilot site, especially when I knew you were a member there too. I don't understand what the problem could be...who wouldn't want all that info that isn't available anywhere else?

Of course, 3 of the 6 TSB's applied to my VIN so I am not thrilled, but if the related problems ever crop up, I've already printed copies for my file and I can tell my dealer what to look for. It's a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned...

One other question that's been bothering me...can you get in trouble for posting these? I would think if it is OK, they would be available everywhere on the internet, but they're not. I know Alldata has them, but you have to buy a subscription or pay to get them. I just don't want you to get in trouble, because then we wouldn't get them any more. I thought maybe you should be using an alias for posting them or something...

:sorry:

No, they're supposed to be public knowledge...... the only reason that I'm aware of that any manufacturer wouldn't want them out there is the people that just want new parts even when they aren't having a problem. I assume the ones here & most over there are smart enough to realize that that actions costs all of us! Kinda like things paid for by the government cost us all....well, nothing's free. So the more warranty stuff, the more we all pay for the items.

From the tech point of view..... when someone brings in a SB, without the actual problem, but Honda insists on finding it before the repair can be done...it's a waste of everyone's time. You all know that just because your VIN is on the list you may not have the issue ever come up. BUT if it does, having this info can make you not panic. "my engine's not dying, it's just my EGR malfunctioning"

:)

I can get in trouble for giving access to the site, so I don't. It's for employees. There's training stuff & tests he has to take on it too, thus the at-home access.

The places that charge for the info are a rip-off as far as I'n concerned!

You all have always treated me with respect & kindness.....even when we disagree! I'm really hoping that the Pilot site will too. They simply scared me away with the way they seemed to blame me for the tranny issue. I didn't make it! I only reported a "heads-up". The biggest problem I had with them was when I warned about Honda checking for coolers when there's hitches on the Pilots. I thought people should know since many had decided not to put the coolers on. Feel free to find that thread & you'll see what I mean!

OK; I just read that thread and I don't think anyone attacked you. I think all the towers without ATF coolers were shocked to realize that they could be exposed to non-warranty transmission damage, and they reacted with predictable annoyance at what you warned could be Honda's policy.

Don't let that turn you off - I didn't see anything personal there.

And I'll bet that 5 or 10 of them ran out and had coolers installed after they read that thread ! :blah:

At the time I brought others in to my computer to read it.....in case I was just being, well, too sensitive....they had an even stronger reaction than me! There may have been struff posted later that explained the posts better, I unsubscribed....so I don't know. I didn't feel personally attacted, just wasn't in the mind to help out when they didn't like what they heard. Months before the issue of coolers with hitches had been discussed & many didn't see the reason to have them, so I simply tried to point out that there was a reason.

It's all past now.....I am trying to give the Pilot site a new start. (and myself) I had noticed a change with how they treat others while peeking in!

They are 95% good people in there - just stay away from religion and politics or you'll be mixing with the loudest lunatics...!:blah:

It seems like every Honda site except this one seems to be full of shit 'scuse the French. For example, on the Odyclub.com site, one person posted a 2002 Odyssey for sale recently for $25,500 with 30K miles. Of course, seeing as how the price was more than you would pay even for a brand new similar Odyssey, I posted this fact as did others. Our posts were immediately deleted and a new rule was put into effect that you couldn't make comments on a for sale thread unless you were interested. Also, we all know what happened with kemosabe on this forum, and he was from the Pilot forum. I can also say the Honduh.com site has a bunch of immature freaks as well :)

Princess ,

I think the information you provide is priceless!! And the TSB's and Service bulletins are nice too..:)

You just have to remember that some people cannot handle the information and it twist and churns them apart because they do not remember 1 basic fact>>>it's a machine and machines sometimes break<<<<...
If you feel that you are being treated bad, that most definitely is the other persons problem and you have every right to back away from the table!!!!

The Automotive industry problems lie deep within the roots(Mfgs)and then it flows out the branches(Dealers). I sat in a meeting once with a Regional Director, Service,Parts and Sales from a Mfg that shall go un-named.. My ? to them was about overcharging for scheduled service intervals per their guidelines. (Basically doing maint repairs that were unneccessary..... Answer, Thats how we do it everywhere!!! ?????????

I remember asking you about the cooler on the Pilot when I was thinking about replacing the van, and You told me the same thing.. I understood their policy and even if I only used it for my bike rack I would still install a cooler to prevent having to prove that the vehicle had never had a trailer behind it...
Honda has to protect themselves from unintelligent consumers.

My 2 cents
I1:)

Thanks for the input.... I DO want to participate on the Pilot site too. I will try, but I can't help but be a little skiddish. You guys have me so spoiled here! The whole bunch here seems to know that we are all entitled to our opinions..... & there's been a few disagreements that have ended with agree to disagree. That's one of the many wonderful things about being a "grown up".....we can do that!

Owning a Pilot, it's fun to converse with others that do too. Yeah, sometimes even whine..... As much as we absolutely LOVE our Hondas, they're machines & as such will have malfunctions. The quality of all cars has gone down in some ways, but when you concider that there's tons more parts on 'em, the ratio is still pretty good!

I1, you have made a great observation with the services.....I think they've neglected some, such as valve adjustments & charge too much for others. I'm sure that's why we had such a large group calling when he did sidework! Prices & trust. I feel for y'all finding a dealer for repairs! I still see some of "our" people & they are still begging us to start up the sidework again. Most have started paying dealer prices & requesting their favorite tech.

 I1, you are a sweetie!

I opened this "can o' worms" because I know you guys will be honest with me. If I'm being too sensitive as Pairallel has suggested, then I want to know. I'm thinking I was. Especially with that issue.... I think because I'd seen what others had gone through, more than myself. So I may have read more "attitude" than was actually being shown at the time towards me. The "shoot the messenger" statement was just the last straw for me.

Sorry for the rambling....

Thank you all for helping me sort it all out.

Sometimes family needs to help each other through stuff & you all are there for me......

I'm only a member at 3 places, the other being a Disney site..... forums really haven't been my thing.....but this one is special!:grouphug:

No secret.....haven't been around much....being a holiday weekend. There's not much to tell. He was not happy here. Some "humor" was in poor taste as I understand it. Apparently decided to leave. Nothing all that dramatic. You'd have to get the details from him.
