My Mom bought a new 2007 Civic EX Coupe (nice car) and I'm buying her 1999 Accord EX sedan from her as a commuter. It's always been garaged, maintained by the local Honda dealer, and has 78,000 miles.

I figured I'd better join an Accord forum as forums have been invaluable for my Honda CBR1000RR and my 2002 Supercharged Toyota 4Runner.

Just saying hello!

Welcome to the site! Wow, 78k miles on a 99, still a baby. Post up some pics when you get a chance :)

Also, if you aren't already on a 4Runner website, I'd recommend T4R.org It's mostly 4th gens, but there are some 3rd gens on there too.

Thanks ya'll.

My Mom rarely drove the car and when I went down to work out the price on her new Civic the dealer didn't want to giver her very much on trade in. She got a helluva deal on the Civic though (20K OTD for a 2007 Civic EX Coupe Auto) which included tax, ttl lic, splash guards, and floor mats. Once I had worked out the price on the car I took her Accord down to trade so that's probably why they didn't want to give much for it.

I'm a modification junkie so I'm already looking for a spoiler for the rear. I'll likely go OEM on that.

The AC isn't cold so I need to look into that as well. My 4Runner will freeze you, but the Accord is only blowing at maybe 72 F. I'm gonna get a small thermometer to test it with to see how far off it is. Anyone know how cold a 99 is supposed to be? It's the 2.3L I4 engine with auto tranny.

I agree with the AC being not too cold. My old 01 Focus had much better AC.

Hi Speedy, and welcome.. :)

Lets hope you make all your posts in the "pit" and not under "problems" huh.. ;) :)

All air cons need servicing just like any other item, I think the recomended intervals are 24 months for most cars.. I suggest you get the whole system looked at, and serviced by a proper air con Co.. :)

I think all ford cars (the ones not made by kia...) have stellar A/C systems. Our 99 Sable with 80k blows ice ice ice cold!

Welcome.....

from what I remember, Hondas AC are supposed to drop the outside temp about 30 degrees. There is no set out-of-the vents number. Sounds like it just may be low on freon. It happens. Over time it can seap out slowly even without an actual problem. It goes by TIME, not miles.

If the car had short trips, I sure hope the services have been for severe! I do that with mine since the largest perccentage of driving is in town & some trips less than 5 miles. That's brutal on any car!:paranoid:

Enjoy your time here!:D

Thanks for the tips everybody. I'll do some testing on the AC to see how it sits.

Princess, all the maintenance was done according to whatever the dealer told her to do. She has all the records, but I've not looked them over yet. The car was used to get her back and forth to work which was about 20 miles one way.

I've got my own personal maintenance schedule I follow. I've done a lot of testing and what not on vehicles in regards to oil changes, oil brand, etc. I'll save all that discussion for another thread.

your mom is one lucky *****...hahaha..no offense..hahaha..i wanted tohe civic too at first kuz it was new and nice.....but it was such a hotseller here that they woudln't budge period on the pirce..so for what you got it would have cost 21-22k out the door which is ridiculous for a civic...=-\..but i love my accord though =)

Well, just a quick update. I picked up the 99 Accord last night. It's a very nice car and surprisingly fun to drive for a 4 cyl. Too bad it's a sedan and not so sporty, but oh well 30MPG will be nice.

I went on lunch to check the AC. I picked up a thermometer and some gauges from a local Auto Store. It was only blowing 80 degree air in the shade (ugh). The low side pressure was only like 5 psi. I picked up a R134a recharge kit with oil and gasket conditioner and filled it to 45 psi and now it's blowing 42 degree air. Hopefully that fixed it. If not it's got a leak.
