got my windshield replaced wednesday aftn, and soon after, it started raining.

afterwards, got most of the glass swept out....

today, was driving in the rain, figured i needed rain-x.... i applied two coats. the rain-x comes off, leaving these vertical streaks, almost like skin stretch marks all over the windshield. the streaks were there beforehand, but the rain-x temporarily masked it. it was hell trying to see on the turnpike (just got back). took me an hour longer than normal, glare from headlights coupled with the marks all over the entire window made driving hazardous....

question is, is this something that i can take care of (DIY) by somehow stripping it with an abrasive cleanser / cleaner? or, could it be a manufacturer defect?

thanks in advance for the replies....

Bar Keepers Friend will clean it up without scratching the glass. It is messy and you'll need to rinse it off extremely well but it will remove anything that's on there.....exterior only of course.

Wet the windshield and sprinkle the powder all over it. Using a wet (thick) sponge or a terry towel scrub it down. You really need running water and a hose for this. I use it all the time for windshields and rear glass that just won't come clean. Rinse rinse rinse! If this doesn't remove it then it's defective glass.

Wal-Mart has it or it may even be at the PX or base liquor store.

will that take off the remaining rain-x as well?

if so, i should be able to re-apply without issues, right?

and one more thing, it's going to be hard to get running water on base here. (running water = water coming from hose) plus, going on vacation to the beach in 2 days. would an easier solution be to take it thru a car wash after i'm done with the scrubbing? :)

If that's your only choice then it's the best choice with the water. Blast it with the pressure wand thoroughly and all the paint around it.

Why not take the Rain-X with you and confirm the mess is gone prior to reapplying it?

The BK's Friend will remove anything and everything that's on there. I would not recommend this had I not used it myself.....on my car and many others.
