I rotated all four tires myself about a month ago and I have noticed that my rear passenger tire is wearing out quicker on the outside wall. The rear driver side tire is wearing out at the same area but not as noticeable. I'm thinking about bringing it in for an alignment and/or balancing just to get it fixed.

I've had these stock Michelin tires since I got the car. I've put about 37k miles on them. What's the bare minimum that Ihave to do to get this abnormal wear fixed? Because I'm planning on selling the car in a year and then get new tires then. Or I might sell it in a few months after I see how the new Accord Coupe looks. Can I just get an alignment for the rear tires (the front tires are ok)? How much should I pay for all 4, for just the 2 in the rear?

I called around and it looks like alignments are around $70 and balancing $30. $100 for both. In that case, I might as well get new tires for $250 now instead of later.

get new tires and an alignment. $70 is probably ballpark of what you'll pay anywhere. tires being out of balance will generally not cause odd tire wear.

an alignment issue is not the cause of the tires, the abnormal tire wear just lets me know that there's an issue with the alignment correct? so getting new tires by itself without an alignment won't fix my issue right?

trac,

you are correct.....

any kind of unusual tire wear has nothing really to do with the tires.... it normally deals with the alignment, or frame damage (in my case)....

the tire itself can cause it to wear poorly. i.e. broken internal steel belt, etc. lack of rotation can cause poor wear....... but yeah, if you have 37k miles and have not had an alignment yet, you really should get one.
